Driving into Kanchanaburi from Bangkok to visit the famous bridge on the River Kwai. Built by prisoners of war under the Japanese between 1942 and 1943.
David Lean directed a movie of the same name released in 1957. The film was an adaptation of a Novel by French writer Pierre Boulle, who was himself, an eyewitness to the tragedy of WWII in Southeast Asia.
The Bridge is now a major tourist attraction and Historical site.
