Lake Sturgeon Fishing, 9/18/20
Before last night, I’d never caught a lake sturgeon. I don’t think Scott knew that when he offered to take me with him, but I’m glad he did. It’s an everyday adventure I was happy to accept.

Just a guy chopping wood. Chopping wood with an ax is one of the most primitive jobs left for a modern man to do- primitive in the sense that we do the same job in exactly the same way as our remote ancestors did….For a few blessed hours the simple but concentrated business of striking steady, rhythmical blows with a lump of forged steel banishes all the burdens of modern life. The Search For My Honey Hole In The Woods- Covid-19 Isolation Week- NAGC Video Log

While we isolated ourselves in Minnesota’s Northwoods during the first week of the Coronavirus crisis, I probed some wilderness lakes I’d never fished before. Despite not catching anything meaningful on 3 lakes, it was a gratifying experience. I learned lots about picking l...

To crack shells, my friend lent me a G-clamp that tightens by turning a handle. You can gently increase the pressure without hurting your hands. Pieces of shell do still sometimes fire across the room but it's much less likely that the whole nuts will!

I have a third generation nut cracker, that’ll cope with very small nuts upto large walnuts & Brazil nuts. Though walnuts are more fun to crack, just pressing one nut against another in the hand. Our nut cracker is wide and rounded on the outside, with graduated grip-teeth on the inside. Don’t know who made it, only that it was bought in Wales c1920s. Thanks for a great guide to prepping hazel nuts.

You said you froze your feet? For Christ sakes get a very good extreme cold weather boot, it’s only money man. US military white bunny boots are very good. The Cabelas Saskatchewan pac boot-is another option. I hunt north of Duluth in ladder stands and my feet never freeze. I am an all day sitter and get down when I can no longer see my crosshairs. Just my two cents.

Thanks! First year I had hazelnuts, gathered them, husked them, and put some in lidded container. Three or four weeks later, I learned (the hard way) not to do that again as they had gotten moldy. What a waste! Luckily, I had left some in plastic bags (not closed) & those didn’t go bad. Now, thanks to you, I know I should’ve roasted them (half an hour at 220 Fahrenheit!? My stove uses Celsius). If I had to guess, I’d go with low heat (F) not super high (C).

Hey first of all fantastic buck and thanks for hunting the ole fashioned way. I am so sick and tired of tree house shooting / not hunting being called hunting. What a fantastic buck and you set a great example for others to follow. Just do me one big favor in the future. PLEASE!!!!!!!!! Stop poking the deer with the muzzle end of your weapon. This idiotic practice has developed due to some knuckle head introducing this to the video world. Hunting safety and muzzle protection of your weapon you never touch the muzzle end of your barrel on anything as it could become plugged with debris and create a hazard. As a retired law enforcement officer and military guy you are taught to never ever do anything of this type because it is dangerous. If you think that you need to poke it with something use a stick!!!!!!!!!!!! Not your weapon OK. Besides he has been there for 3 hours he not going any place. I will guess Kellogg Mn. Great video. So, nice to see a real hunter in the woods. Please keep doing what you do so that the younger generation can see what hunting was supposed to be about. Not this tree house, shoot out the window while sitting in your lazy boy crap we see here all the time. kudos!
