I wonder how much prices are going to spike with new AI announcement. Lots of houses going up in the past 10 hours alone for folks wanting to leave the area before things get busy. I have seen smaller projects and future employees really lean on local infrastructure once the jobs are secured and the mass migrations happen. Hope this city is ready and local officials are ready. What a great time to be a realtor in that area and the surrounding 1/2 to 1 hour commute.
Thank you for your service

I moved my family here in November of 2023. After a year of living in Abilene I can tell you that there are some very negative highlights about this community that overshadow much of its positives. One issue I am going to take and outright dispute with you on Abilene is friendliness. People by and large and not friendly and certainly do not stand out from other parts of Texas or America. I'm sure the white picket fences lined in front of 500k homes in Wylie get you plenty of "howdy neighbor" but for the rest of us working class people, at best the general attitude is indifference. This is in part due to that individualistic attitude that you mention, which would be fine if that is what it was, a value of self-determination. What it is in actuality, is a "me first, get the hell out of my way" astonishingly selfish on the brink of narcissim mentality. People are rude in conversation, speed and cut you off on the roads, and pretend like you don't exist in daily public life. Strangers and those new to Abilene are looked on with disdain and suspicion. Those that are genuinely friendly do exist but are hard to find. Most of those who are not outright rude will be superficially friendly, give you a fake smile and nod because that's what Jesus would want them to do. It is certainly not because that's what they want to do. Better yet, wait until you run into those who play at being friendly as a segway to pry into your business and repeat their own skewed flatbilly version of it to the rest of the neighbors OR try to convert you to whatever cult like version of religion they might happen to hold. Couple this with wages for the working class that are 25% under the national and Texas averages, apathetic people in management who have either failed or brown nosed their way upward, and employers who believe a 7 Day - 60 Hour a week job constitutes part time but God forbid you ever see the boss haul their happy ass into the office on a Sunday. Also, if you like seeing homeless people literally EVERYWHERE, Abileine is your town.
The weather sounds like Los Angeles weather. I drive thru Abilene once a year. If I was in my late 20s early 30s i would've moved there. I tell people that Abilene is small enough to be a big city and big enough to be a small city. For me, the added bonus is fwy 20. I particularly love the old downtown buildings and the thrift shops.
Yes, good way to describe it.
Very nice ,thank you for give me any information how about Abilene👏👏👏🙏
You're welcome!
How about homeowners insurance? Perhaps $275k around 1500 to 1800 square feet on the southside of Abilene?
Great question! Obviously it can depend on a lot of different things. But on average around $800-$1000 a year.
@Livinginabilenetexas thanks, I'm researching places to retire. I grew up in TX but been living in GA the last 30 years.
can we maybe s the other floor plans? perhaps one with a two car garage? im moving to abilene in february
Yes, I’ll do another one soon. They’re still building the ones with the 2 car garages, but once one is done I’ll do a video.
Oh, and if you need more info or help with anything, feel free to text, call or email!
Lovely homes… thank you for showing.
You’re welcome!
I haven't had a problem with flooding streets that much. Maybe because I've lived here long enough to know what streets to avoid when we have heavy rain. Abilene is the right size for not having to deal with the harder parts of rough times, like the whole COVID thing, and the 'big freeze '.
The important thing to me is the percentage of blacks
I honestly would love to be part of a community that was known for its faith
Used to have the Blue Law
Yep, a very stringent Blue Law as I remember. It was the first time I'd encountered anything like that, but it had changed within 10 years of moving here. By the mid/late 70's we citizens voted in evil alcohol and we could buy beer at the local convenience store instead of going to the north side of town to a tiny, incorporated 20 acres called Impact. No more hot beer! The place has really become cosmopolitan compared to what it was in 1967.
Having lived in over seven states, Abilene TX has been the worst place so far.
I love Abilene. spent 66 years in California. moved here as a solo woman.. I watched everything I lived with and loved trashed. overall Abilene is just big enough to have nice choices for shopping and entertainment.. I am grateful everyday for the polite, respectful, friendly, personally responsible, pro self defense , etc. people. real community. real support in times of need. roads? try CA. pay through the nose in taxes and have those taxes stolen for other agendas.. I have been shocked at how fast a road is paved here.. a few days vs. years in CA.
Great video Dan.. i sent an email to you as i am moving there this year.
I’m sorry, maybe I missed it, let me check.
I will be relocating in Abilene, are there any aparment you can recommend close to Hendrick medical center and hendrick medical south. Please your input is greatly appreciated.
Ok, I went through the list of reasons not to live there and the only one I found off-putting are the property taxes. The rest of them were reason I'd want to live there. I'm Atheist but I can assure you that I'd much rather be surrounded by Christians than most other Atheists. Funny how they refer to people they disagree with as "closed-minded" while in the same breath refusing to debate any of their beliefs - which are as faith-based as the Christians they mock.
Florida cops couldn't care less if your car is disabled on the side of the road. They are more likely to give you the finger and laugh as they drive by (video exists of cops doing exactly that) than they are to stop and make sure you're safe.
I use to live in Abilene for 10 years glad I left…
Me too. 😁
I grew up in Abilene and now live in the DFW area. Have lived here over 20+ years. I sometimes miss West Texas … Abilene because of the slower pace of life. Abilene is not beautiful but I have wonderful memories and I also miss the big skies too.
i fell asleep
I am into hog hunting. You got hunting grounds for the public?
There is NO public hunting anywhere near Abilene. Texas as a whole is a state that is 98% owned by its Citizens. There is very little public hunting available in the whole state.
Less than 100K? Tell me you got something!
Florida doesnt have high property taxes. But in thebcae of the Orlando area, they have tolls out the wazu.
I am not a night life person at all. Dont care for clubs or any of those kinds of places.
Crooked police force
How bout all you from other states stop coming to texas period
I'm definitely looking for a place to relocate
Thinking about Abilene? Give me call or shoot me a text!
Your right about lots of Churches, One on every corner also a burrito shop on the other ones..!!
The best view of Abilene is in your rear view mirror.
City is letting houses on historic registry be demolished.
I was considering buying land out there
That’s cool, it’s a great place to get some land. If you want to talk more about it, reach out to the number in the video or send me an email.
Lived here here all of my life Sir please dont make a you tube video on something you very little about your just trying to locate a house for someone to buy We sure as hell dont need any more sorry ass californians moving here with their politics
Abilene and the surrounding towns have a big problem with doing multiple temporary fixes over one or two long term ones. also i think a lot of people have a problem with abilene because they move here expecting a small quaint perfect country town like the hallmark movies and then they see that we got problems just like every city(crime, homelessness etc.) and it ruins the romanticized view they had in their head
You just described the whole state of Texas for reason #1 and #2 haha.
Not rly I’m 2 years old and never experienced sry
I lived in Abilene for 20 plus years. Still have family there, so I visit often. The streets are used to funnel water, so they are fast running streams when the sky opens up sending 1 inch in less that 15 minutes. Flash floods are common, but the low-lying areas retain the water. I recommend living on the hill. (by ACU or Harden Simmons)
yall ion know what abilene tx yall are talkin bout but it’s not a good area or environment we have a higher crime rate then 96% more towns with only 4% more being more dangerous 😭 its not a good place really yall.
What areas are more peacefully??
I love this area, but I live outside of Abilene. I moved specifically because Abilene ISD is terrible, high taxes and constant city poking it's nose into your business. The tax authority will arbitrarily raise the value of your property every year. Another tax benefit is being a Disabled Veteran. As far as the roads and concerned, the city back in the budget shortfalls of 2007-09 fired the pothole crew, yet kept the assistant city managers, LOL.
Well I love the people of Abilene, conservative , gun toting , Christian, friendly , schools are not too bad, yeah roads and bugs and weather, but you have that with tons of places, some are even worse . I grew up in a small town in New Mexico and was happy to get to Abilene. It has its faults like most places , but I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in these times.
I grew up in Abilene and we had to move to North Carolina. I was 10 years of age.... The east coast down right sucks.. I now live in El Paso.. There is noting like West Texas.. I am vey happy here in West Texas..
You are a legend in the making! I lucked out big time finding this channel! Have you covered Cypress, Texas yet? Best of luck to you sir! I'm a fan!
You said you didn’t understand why it floods in Abilene. It is because Abilene sits in a hole. Get in your car and drive out I-20 east. Look back over your shoulder. You will notice that Abilene is much lower. Not to mention that Cedar Creek and Elm Creek run right through town. One thing that you didn’t mention about Abilene is that there is very little manufacturing in that area. Abilene is very much a service based town and that Dyess is for the most part what keeps it going
Conservative meaning don't like black ppl. I seen how they looked when I went in stores with my wide. I didn't care because I aim perfect and I'm not looking for their friendship. I'm proud to be black (of African decent).
If you are a Person without Morals, just keep going South to Austin! You’ll be happy there!
Coming from there today let me tell you I feel so sad leaving Abilene TX totally going to move over there from FTW 😢
Booooriiiing!
