    Referring to the non-enlightened as "average joe" is awfully arrogant. This guest is making the rounds of the FI podcasts, and she's revealed that her husband is a public servant, which means a) a lucrative pension at a very early age and b) retiree health insurance. She's got big advantages that we "average joes" simply do not, and she does not seem to appreciate that. Oh, and another comment? Knock off the potty mouth. It doesn't impress anyone.

    43:09 “The lesson in this is don’t use an alarm clock, and if that isn’t possible for you, change your life until you don’t have to use an alarm clock.” This is such a simple statement but really can be taken as an analogy for the larger FI movement.

    I don’t think its necessarily fair to say the average joe/regular retirement isn’t intentional. It can change at different life phases but if they’re saving enough to retire at regular age thats fine. I think the obvious thing for Slow FIRE is the RE part. Maybe calling it Slow FI doesn’t help as you’re missing pronouncing the RE part - slowly planning towards RE is a critical part of slow FIre

    Hey Doug! In the MMM episode (and maybe the Chad Carson episode as well) you touched on the e-bike topic and in this episode you said that you bought an e-bike. Which one did you end up with? I’m undecided between going the pre-made route from brands like Lectric and Rad Power or going the custom route by retrofitting a regular bike (like Carl’s blog article). I’m currently leaning towards the retrofit option because I’ve heard that maintaining pre-made bikes can be difficult because shops refuse to service them. Please go in depth on e-bikes when Carl is back on! Also side note, I’m in the market for a mattress and I noticed that Costco is now selling Ghost beds. Unfortunately the cost of the Ghost beds at Costco is less than the cost from Ghost beds’s website even with the MileHighFi discount code 🙃

    My wife and I shared a used Honda Fit for 6 years from 2017-2023 while on the path to FIRE and it was a perfect car for that time - hatch back, ~35 mpg, and room for a ton of stuff that felt like a Harry Potter tent on the inside. We also added a hitch and bike rack to it for even more room and if one of us needed to get picked up quickly while out somewhere on the bike it made that easier. At the end of 2023, we bought a new model Y and it is definitely an incredible upgrade. It would be difficult to go back now having experienced what the model Y offers.

  • @EbikeEscape
    @EbikeEscape หลายเดือนก่อน

    Did someone say ebikes? Ride1Up is definitely a great brand but there are some considerations (as there are with all brands/models) but one major one is assembly for those new to bikes (on some of their models). They take more skill like attaching the front hydraulic brake caliper, installing a crank, fork, rear rack etc.) Still a great value brand but you might want to leave assembly to the pros if you're not confident.

    I am not doubting the RMD problem, but just to note that even my 86 year old Dad only has to take out 6% this year, so it still assumes he assumes now he is going to live to over 100, so it never pushes you to withdraw what I would consider a lot really until you're in your 90's. In fact it is hardly more than the 4-5% rule of thumb even at that age.
