Well hey there. Just found your channel and have a 1.5 year old lab. He went force fetch and had 4 months of basic gun dog obedience. Ive also been working with him in preperation for this years hunts. We went on a few dove hunts this year with overall success. He ate a few birds early on, but got better. Now we just went on our first duck hunt. I ran into an issue. He retrieved the duck but when he hits shore on the retrieve he is shaking off the water and dropping the duck. He was being given the "hold command" by me as he exited the water to hopefully avoid the drop, but it didnt matter. A "fetch/Nick/ Fetch got him to pick it back up and bring it to hand. I evaluated the problem and made note that our blind was much further from the waters edge than our training sessions. Normally Im at the waters edge to take the duck/dummy on drop. HOw should I go about overcoming this new bad habit he developed (shaking off and dropping the duck)? Go back to waters edge, and back off gradually im assuming?
