It pulls at me constantly, this idea that it's not just limited to humans, or even animals, but that everything-every single thing that's alive-has its own consciousness. We have no clue what consciousness actually *is*. We try to define it, wrap it up in scientific terms, but when it comes down to it, we’re grasping at straws. And if we don’t know what it is, how can we arrogantly claim to know what *doesn’t* have it? Who are we to decide what has awareness and what doesn’t? To declare that this or that living thing is somehow less than us? It's insane to me. Just because we can’t measure it or understand it, does that give us the right to dismiss it?
