Kimono Vest - Kataginu DIY Sewing Project
มุมมอง 2.1Kปีที่แล้ว
I make a kataginu, a vest to be worn with kimono. ig:@jaytsworkshop Disclaimer: I cannot vouch for the historical accuracy of this garment, I am not very familiar with this type of dress history. The pattern is mostly based off of one for a haori, without the sleeves and side gusset.

Weaving an Alpaca Scarf with Scrap Yarn on the Ashford SampleIt Loom
มุมมอง 3.7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I had scrap yarn that I spun from Alpaca wool, which I used on a scrapped project. I didn't want to waste it, so I wove it on a 16" Ashford SampleIt Loom to make a scarf.

      Yeah this was taken in the Village I think. Check out the Kawasaki Reading Room. I went there to look at kimono to get an idea of how they're made and also there's a great community there with events and conversation table if you're also trying to learn Japanese, or it's just a great place to study.

    Wow. This in-depth tutorial is exactly what i was asking for. I am not japanese but i would like a kimono to wear around my home because it just seems comfy and i like the looks. I think that i can make one thanks to your video, which is very in-depth although i feel like it has to be watched a few times before i actually get everything right in my head. Thank you ! I also love your homemade (youtube subs call it a "howdy") blue garment. If you ever feel inspired to share how you made it i would be happy to hear from you ! Thanks again and bravo.

    I struggle to understand why the width of the body panel is 1/2 yuki when you only seem to need 1/4 hip

    So the two 'body' fabrics are sewn side by side with a french seam? Does that mean the total width of that fabric would be the 'Yuki' + Seam Allowance?

    Could you have sprayed Magic Sizing on the threads to lightly coat them in starch so they would not stick or cling together? Your scarf is beautiful from what I can see from the video! Your whole self is in that scarf. Great job! God Bless! 🙂

    it's pretty difficult to tell exactly what you are doing. it would help if visually you showed where on the final product you are sewing or held up the piece. Every time you show yourself sewing or ironing, it looks exactly the same and is difficult to follow along with or tell exactly what you are doing. the drawings are helpful for cutting, and understanding what you are doing to each individual piece, but not where it applies as a whole.

    How to measure uchiage ?

    • @jaysworkshop2497
      @jaysworkshop2497 ปีที่แล้ว

      The amount of fabric taken in with the uchiage is the needed length minus the actual length. If you cut your fabric exactly the length that you need, then you won't need to tuck any fabric into the uchiage.
