Cataloging Update & How We Handle Sealed Games
Welcome to Embracer Games Archive!
In this video, we’ll give you an update on how our cataloging work is progressing. We often get asked how we handle sealed games, and you’ll find the answer to that in this video too.
Our main focus at the Embracer Games Archive is to preserve and tribute games culture and history.
By building an extensive archive of physically released games for the consumer market, we aim to be a resource for the gaming industry and the community around it. A source of inspiration, contemplation and further studies.
We also want to be part of the joint effort being done to preserve as much as possible of our history. By giving institutions and other preserving games access to the archive.
Games should be shared with current and future generations as a way to promote and show the culture and history of gaming.
The Embracer Games Archive is part of the Embracer Group and is located in Karlstad Sweden.

Launching Embracer Games Archive Database
มุมมอง 535ปีที่แล้ว
March 10th we had an event in the archive to celebrate the completion of the database framework and being able to register the first game.
is this the pos that bought deus ex just to throw it into a shelf till it rots?
Is it wrong I'd happily play Rise of the Robots or Revolution X shown here over most games published today? 😂
You're doing great work here guys! 👍
Thanks for the support.
This is amazing. How is all this work funded? Are they an NGO?
The archive is an initiative by Embracer Group, and it is funded by them. So while it is run by a privately owned company, the idea is not to charge for anything or make a profit from the archive. //David
I have made exactly a very similar application and software to keep track of my collection!!
Ah nice :) // David
I understand you have to but it kills me watching you putting stickers on these boxes.
Yes, it was a decision that took quite a long time to reach. // David
Getting some Last Gamer vibes 😅
Hi, feel free to elaborate on what you mean by this comment :) // David
@@embracergamesarchive Oh well you know who I mean right? Supposedly he did a lot research to create a museum in his home and you guys literally created a museum.

Hey, previous owner of a lot of these games! If you ever need help with porting the app for archiving to iOS. Let me know, Its my day to day job and Id love to contribute!
Hey! Yes we will let you know if we need that kind of help :) Hope it is nice to see your old games now and then in these videos? // David
@@embracergamesarchive I squeek like a little girl when I see boxes that I'm quite sure were mine. So yes, it makes me so incredibly happy. Very cool to see all the progress guys. I'll try to make the trip down there early 2025. Keep rocking.
Kul o se! Börjar hyllorna att bli fulla? Vad gör ni då?😮 Kan man besöka eller hur används arkivet?
Hello. The shelves will last for many years, and solutions are ready should we run out of space. More information can be found on our website. If someone has a specific purpose and needs access to the archive, they can contact us to see if we can assist. Unfortunately, we can't accommodate visits from everyone who simply wants to see the archive in person. That’s why we make these videos-to give everyone some insight into what happens here at the archive. Best, David
Very Good Place ❤
Yes it is :) //David
great decision, sealed games are useless
Show me more of the switch! I’m curious to see what else is in there guys!
Can show more next time :) //David
Wait…….. they sent you ALL those games for free?!?! What in the actual heck? I’m so so so jealous of your life. 😢 But sending my ❤regardless.
It's the same owner (Embracer group) for all the companies so it dosen't really matter.
I represent the large contingent of people that hate LRG's FOMO fanning numbering scheme. Please stop encouraging their bad practices. They are the second worst part of the family to deal with costumer service wise, behind only Crazy Labs.
Omg, I've been looking forward to see some unboxing.
Happy to hear that. // David
Really neat to see different regional versions of so many titles I grew up with.
Being an Italian collector, there is a lot of stuff in those Milestone boxes that I would like to have
Hello everyone ! Amazing work you are doing here, thanks to the team for all the hard work ! For my personal collection, I tend to protect everything inside clear boxes (I know, it needs to be a special plastic that doesn't harm content inside and blocks UV's) but that gets expensive really quick ! Cheers
Hello. In the upcoming video we will talk some more about just that. // David
@@embracergamesarchive great, I'm looking forward to see it!
So cool. So many wonders to discover there.
Yes, there certainly is. // David
What Software are you using to catalog this all? Some kind of cataloging Software, CMDB or even something Selfmade?
Hello. We are using Axiell Collections and it works very well for us. // David
Nice😊

King! Dom där konsollerna hyrde man 1 par hundra gånger. På Aros Video här i Västerås. Som liten haha! Och så fanns det 4 klöver på äldre spel. Då kunde man hyra 4 spel samtidigt för bättre pris. =D

Syntax Error snubben? Varför finns inte episode 100 för nedladdning?
Sorry to nitpick and be that guy but The Longest Journey featured April as the main character. Zoe was a character in the sequel. Understandable as Natalia was nervous. Okay I'll go now, sorry again...
Hi i do video archival as hobby, but I have my own small collection of video games but also print photos, and or organize print photos I use small 6mm RFID tags on the back of the photos, this way the metadata can be written to the chip and isn't permanent like a marker. Also put your game cases in lexan protectors. You'd be surprised out fast disc cases get scuffed up, or cardboard for that matter, just be sitting next to one another on a shelf.
Wait... So you people at Embracer actually like video games? I'm shocked.
Ahh, The Longest Journey. A lady of culture there! :) I adored the story of that game, but boy does it have a lot of moon logic in it. Had to use a walkthrough many times, but I still loved it.
Our dear daughter in law.
Äntligen!
So nice to hear you as always. Totally in love with that space invaders dress.
I had to dislike after you said the archive isn't open to the public. It's like you're saying we're not welcome.
Hi Neku-San, I believe you may have misunderstood our response a little, so let me clarify what we mean. One of our visions for the archive is that it should be a help and resource for others who promote the gaming industry, gaming culture, and gaming history in various ways. If someone contacts us with an idea that the archive can assist them, we are happy to help as best we can. Everyone is welcome to contact us, but unfortunately, we cannot manage to keep the doors completely open for anyone to enter the archive without our control.
A bit off topic but I'd love to know about the massive rabbit hole of cataloguing PC casual games like hidden object games. It must be a huge task to find all that stuff.
Hello. It is a big and important question. I will try to share som thoughts . As you say, for example PC is a big black hole. There are so many games that have come out over a long period of time. Many games are also unique to certain countries. We hope that the archive can be a good resource for the larger work of mapping all these games. I think it is very important that there are many different people and organizations that collaborate on this together for the best results. An important step for the archive right now is to list all the games we have in the archive. We plan to have a mirrored database so anyone can see what games we have or don't have in the archive. During this long journey, we will need help from, for example, experts, enthusiasts and other institutions that can help us and see what we are missing. // David
@@embracergamesarchive I think also if you wish to archive everything there's also variants to take into account so that's a big hole of collecting as well.
Edutainment titles are a whole other rabbit hole to go down but I'm glad Embracer is doing it.
Yes it is :)
It annoys me so much when other so called organisations (cough VGHF cough) say they want the monopoly on video game preservation, especially crazy since they're archiving amounts to North American gaming. Thank you for providing a much more complete alternative.
Preserving video games can be achieved in so many different ways. I believe all approaches are valuable in their own right. For optimal results, it's beneficial for us to focus on different aspects while collaborating with each other. Our goal is for the resources in our archive to be helpful to others so that together we can make a significant contribution to preserving gaming culture. // David
@@embracergamesarchive I think limiting ourselves to just one resource is a bad idea definitely. 👍
As an archivist I would love to work for you guys. Just a shame you don't do any remote work as I live in a different country. 😥
Ah thats to bad. If you are an archivist and loves video games this is a dream job. Where do you live? // David
@@embracergamesarchive UK. I know right? I need the work as well. 😥
@@embracergamesarchive I have extensive years working in a library and have done contracted work for the BBC Archives and Square Enix.
I am glad to see that the archive is continuing to survive and grow despite Embracer's many corporate troubles at the moment. The collection and presentation is truly amazing. I wish I could have an opportunity to work in a place like that. I have a modest collection right now and am debating my future with it, but I sispect you already have virtually everything in it.
Thank you for sharing. Yes, it's truly surreal to work in this archive. Even though we have about 80,000 items today, it's only a small fraction of all the games out there. So, there are certainly games in your collection that we're missing :) // David
I could spend days admiring those collections, mine, which only takes up one room, seems small in comparison
Really good that you are starting to show the processes of how you work with the collection!
Thank you for commenting and sharing. There will be more videos coming, so stay tuned! // David
Great insight into how some of the work is done at the Archive! Keep up the videos!
Thanks RetroMoments! // David

We have to comply with the law and of course cannot do anything that is illegal. We have started to investigate what we can do in the future and how we can share it. // David
Man, I’m worried about you guys. It looks like you’re doing such a cool, cool thing. And with Embracer’s cut backs and layoffs, I really hope they don’t stop this.
Thanks for your support. //David
Wow, so cool. I really love to hear the stories behind each game.
Yes every single game really has its own interesting stories. Both about how they were created and all the memories that exist from everyone who played them. // David
