Vintage Beretta 92S at the Range POV!
A POV example of the Beretta 92 at the range. The older 92S magazine release is at the bottom of the grip, known as a “heel” release. It does take a little practice but it is a well balanced and reliable firearm.
I am not a qualified gunsmith or Beretta technician, I am simply sharing with you the way I do this procedure to take care of mine.

    Got a fully engraved Galesi with mammoth grips. Fully engraved Astra as well. Love them pocket pistols. Had never seen am extended mag on one, though! That's awesome! Most pistols with the European style mag catch don't have that option, but I did find a custom 15 round mag for my Walther P38, which is wonderful

    Hello! My name is Artem. I'm from Ukraine. Recently I got a gun permit and bought myself an M1A Springfield rifle. As I really like American weapons and in particular M1A. Today, I went to the shooting range with M1A for the first time. After the seventh magazine was fired, there was a problem. After the magazine runs out of cartridges, the bolt locks up. I pull the magazine out of the chamber and the bolt unintentionally comes off the delay. When I try to put the bolt on delay without the magazine in the chamber, the bolt does not lock in the rear position, but comes off the bolt lock button. There was also a case, after firing the last cartridge from the magazine, the bolt was in the delayed position. I took out an empty magazine. When the magazine was inserted into the chamber, the bolt unintentionally released from the delay and ejected the cartridge into the chamber. After shooting, I disassembled the rifle at home for cleaning. After cleaning, I reassembled the rifle and tried to put the bolt back on the bolt without the magazine in the chamber. Again, the bolt does not lock in the rear position. When I tried to put the bolt on delay, the bolt is released. In our country, such a rifle as M1A is rare and exclusive. There is practically no information on its operation and functioning. I decided to turn to you! Please tell me if you have encountered such nuances when using M1A. Is this problem like my rifle normal or is it really a malfunction of mechanisms? Thank you in advance for the answer!

    • @cornfromajar3222
      @cornfromajar3222 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well Artem, I have heard of this problem very rarely. My first suggestion is to try a few different magazines just in case this may be the problem. It’s not uncommon to have a lot of issues due to a faulty magazine. My 2nd suggestion, if different magazines don’t solve the problem would be to replace the bolt stop. That’s the switch/lever that locks the bolt to the rear after you fire the final cartridge in a magazine. I’ve never replaced that piece myself and if it were in the USA, I would take it to a gunsmith for evaluation. I don’t know what the situation is like there however and if you can’t repair it you may have to choose between selling it for a different rifle or accepting the way it is. I wish I could be more helpful but I have to make some guesses since I haven’t actually seen the rifle in person. Best of luck, I hope you are able to fix it! Thanks for coming by!

      @@cornfromajar3222Hello, I really appreciate your response! I took my rifle to a good gunsmith yesterday. He checked it out. And determined the problem. Because the bolt will not engage when the firing pin is installed and locked. It was found out that it presses the mechanisms of the rifle and therefore the bolt will not engage without magazine in the shaft. I contacted Springfield with this issue the same day as you did. But there was no response from Springfield. I will keep the rifle as I have come to terms with this problem over the past few days. It is very difficult to buy such a rifle in Ukraine, because for the last 5 years, only one gun company brought 5 such rifles, I managed to buy one. If you are interested, I will add a link to the TH-cam video I posted for Sprinild. Thank you again for your reply! I wish you all the best! 1. th-cam.com/video/qpNa3FoAEnE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=VyllgQKhvsfvOBtH 2. th-cam.com/video/JHlxumEp6b4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=l7nGtdv9H6wb4Shn

    I had one of the originals before the safety was on the slide. and the thumb safety on the frame. I thought the plastic grips were kind of cheesy but back in '83 there were no custom wood grip replacements. So I ordered Taurus wood grips and they fit perfectly. I never minded the heel mag release. Kept me from dropping the very hard to get mags onto the pavement. Later I got another Beretta but made in Brazil. "Dupla Acao" on the box. Wish I had it now.

    Bringing my first M1 Garand out to the range tomorrow for the second time. First M1 Garand I ever fired was a friends. It was at the tail end of a WW2 shoot at the club I’m a member of. They had packed away the targets. I just fired 8 rounds into the berm. I instantly got the burning desire to own one and found a great specimen. The first time I took it out I barely touched the sights and I was hitting a man sized target at 125 yards. It was really just a function test, making some noise, and having some fun. I’d like to get a little more serious now and I think this video has covered all of the bases. Wish me luck out there tomorrow. I’m generally new to rifle shooting, and very new to M1 Garands. I don’t have all that much experience sighting rifles in at all. I got lucky with the sights out of the box. Aiming dead center at the man sized target, I was hitting low. Adjusted 3 clicks up and began hitting center mass every time. I will be a little reluctant to “mess them up” as they seem to be set pretty well. But I think this will be worth it.

    I tried buying this but then turned around and bought the gear to reload it 💀 the cost of a box of ammo was the same as the dies and trimmer to reload 30-06. With the trajectory of ammo prices it won't really be financially feasible to keep these rifles fed for most people unless you reload.

    I just came into possession of a standard 916 and it's rough. Where the cap screws into the mag tube (near the muzzle) has broken off. I figured just replace the barrel and gtg but can't remove it. I know they come out, have a few saved on flea bay but for the life of me can't figure out how to get it. Any tips?

    • @cornfromajar3222
      @cornfromajar3222 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I waited a couple days before replying here as I thought about what you’ve said. And really without seeing the gun in person this is a tough one. When you disassemble the gun internally and get the pump free you should just unscrew that cap you’re talking about and remove the magazine spring and follower. You have to do that before removing the barrel. If it’s broken that bad that it won’t unscrew I would start with a generous amount of PB Blaster or WD-40, wait a while, and if you have to use pliers, vice grips etc to twist it out, at least use a rag or cloth as a barrier between the tool and the gun to keep from damage. At some point to has to unscrew because under the cap is the magazine spring. Again this is me using my imagination because I haven’t seen it in person. I would say if you feel like anything you are doing is going to damage the gun I would take it to a gun shop that has a gunsmith and have them look at it. I wish I could be more help. Thanks for coming by!

    • @justinbandy2610
      @justinbandy2610 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @cornfromajar3222 I have removed everything from the receiver minus the barrel. Only thing holding it in place is whatever the factory did during the installation. However just yesterday (thank to the power of the internet) I learned the barrel is threaded in and a barrel vise is required for its removal. I'm wondering if a big strap wrench and some love from the torch will break it free. Vise will likely be required for the reinstall though.

    The Garand is safe with 150 and 168gr commercial loads, it was originally designed with the .30M1 Ball load shooting a 178gr bullet at 2640fps. Any 150gr load except for the hottest 30/06 like the Hornady Superformance is fine. If you're nervous like me don't use the Schuster plug, IMHO it's a PITA. I have installed the GarandGear hollowed out gas plug on all my Garands. It works like the one on the M14 and it increases the volume of the gas chamber to soften the initial pressure spike at the beginning of the loading cycle, that's where your oprod can be damaged. Not only does it soften the recoil impulse it cushions the operation of the action. Here are the details taken from direct pressure readings from a transducer in the gas system. It also lists many loadings and comparisons' with commercial loads and M2 ball. M2 Ball. it's defiantly the way to go. www.garandgear.com/the-m1-garand-and-commercial-ammunition/

    I don't care what all these shade tree experts say about the 150 grain cartridge. Read this: IMR 4895 propellant A new cartridge was developed in 1938 that was essentially a duplicate of the old M1906 round, but loaded with IMR 4895 propellant and a new flat-based bullet that had a gilding metal jacket and a different lead alloy, and weighed 152 grains (9.85 g) instead of 150 grains (9.72 g). The 150 grain 30.06 bullet is the same bullet of World War 2 as it is today. I have fired both Military surplus and commercial ammo. There real is no difference. Anyone ammo gun powder over time will be affected by improper storage. If it is not in a dry and cool climate. The ammo will be effected and this is why you must be careful about when it was made, and where it was stored over many years.

    i watched this vid yesterday, took my brand new SA M1A Scout (with iron sights only) out for the first time this morning at my local Public State Game Lands range, using .308 Federal 168gr HPBT Sierra Match King, and shot about 30 rounds standing at 25 yards and it was almost identical sitting on the bench, a couple inches high and left, then sat at the bench and set my sights at center and just under about 1-3/4" high from bullseye, only took about 6 rounds. Then switched over to the 100 yard range and shot 3 groups just on the edge and inside of the center 3" ring, one group at 10 o'clock,, the other at 2 o'clock, and the last one at 6 o'clock. Each one wasn't the tightest, with a spread about 2" each (but under 1" in height), but pretty damn good considering my eyes are toast at 67 years old. But I was using real prescription glasses for the first time that I got just for shooting the M1A (I could see the target pretty well, but the iron sights were a bit fuzzy). I'm still pretty happy with it considering I've never shot any rifle ammo bigger than a 30-30 and never anything over 25 yards, basically I'm a rookie... but your video really helped me to zero in for that 100 yard. Not hitting better was all my fault, but hey, first time out, new rifle.... give me a couple more range days and I should be good. Just gotta find a 200, and 300 yard range somewhere now. Thanks for the vid!

    What ammo are you running in your M1 ??

      I use M1 Garand specific ammo. PPU or Sellier Bellot. Then use the brass to load my own with IMR 4064 or IMR/Hogdon 4895 or Winchester 248 depending on what you can find. IMR reloading data gives you the amount to use. Stay around 2,650 to 2,730 fps on the loads with 150gr bullets. Read up on the "old" M2 ball ammo used in the day.

      @@allenarneson4349 I heard that they make a adjustable gas valve plug so you can use modern ammunition, if so does it work?

      @@revbikerbigd8664 Based on videos on TH-cam yes. Takes a little fiddling with the adjustable plug. But it can work. The key is 50,000 psi. Don't use CUP pressure. Just psi.

      I have another video up on the shuster adjustable gas plug to shoot commercial ammo. If I’m using that, I do Remington 150 grain, or I’ve used CMP Garand ammo in the past but I haven’t bought any recently. I’m a casual shooter and don’t reload. Thanks for coming by!

    I wonder if your FM23-5 is from 1951. That one shows Table II and IV (rapid fire) as needing 9 rounds. The one from 1940 shows Table II/IV (rapid fire) as consisting of only 8 shots. On pg 299 of the 1951 version, it does say how to do 9 rounds. You got it right, the firer loads a single round into the rifle, and has the full clip elsewhere (they require it to be in the "third pocket of his cartridge belt"). Shoot the one round, then reload with the full clip and continue the course of fire.

      The one I referenced was dated 1965. Knowing the changes post-war to Vietnam the Army was making in the battle rifle, I can’t imagine the doctrine changed too much regarding the Garand. By Vietnam the only American forces armed with it I would think would be the national guard. Thanks for coming by!

      @@cornfromajar3222 It seems to have changed quite a bit from the 40s to the 60s, mainly due to "TRAINFIRE" which started in mid50s. That's why the 23-71 from 1965 is different in many respects from the 1951 version. Interesting to see how it all developed!

    Good info. I use Mobil Red Synthetic grease, it's what the ARMY recommends for use in firearms because of its increased lubricity and superior washout resistance than Lubriplate or any other lubricant tested. Looks very similar to your All Weather Grease and yes, all you need is just a smear.
