LIS - The London Interdisciplinary School
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 21 มี.ค. 2019
At LIS, we're building a new London university that will give students the skills to tackle some of the most complex problems that we face in the world.
Through the Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Interdisciplinary Problems & Methods, LIS students tackle complex real-world problems. These include topics like AI & Ethics, Climate Change, and Inequality, as well as problems that are most compelling to them.
Students work collaboratively to identify the knowledge and frameworks from across disciplines required to understand and analyse a problem, and learn the methods and skills needed to solve it.
LIS students also put their learning to work through paid work placements at some of the UK’s most prestigious employers and exciting start-ups, like Virgin, McKinsey, Innocent Drinks and the Met Police.
We also run courses for Master's and professional leadership short courses.
Apply now to join our cohort through our website.

Why corruption always follows the Olympics
The Olympics are a global celebration of sport, but behind the scenes, the bidding process to become a host city is often mired in corruption. We delve into the mechanisms that make this corruption almost inevitable.
Using an interdisciplinary approach, we draw insights from systems thinking and selectorate theory-a concept from political science that explains how the size of the group selecting leaders influences their behaviour.

At LIS - The London Interdisciplinary School, we believe that solutions to the world's most complex problems won't come from a single specialism.
We need to bring together knowledge and expertise from across the arts, sciences and humanities. If you're interested in our unique interdisciplinary approach to higher education, explore our degree offerings today via our website.

How AI Image Generators Make Bias Worse
มุมมอง 49K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
Buzzfeed recently published a now deleted article on what AI thinks Barbies would look like from different countries around the world. The results contained extreme forms of representational bias - including colourist and racist depictions, which is something that AI image generators are often prone to doing. With AI image generators like MidJourney, Stable Diffusion, and Dall-E gaining huge po...

Looks cool
this video made me vomit
Let the active athletes vote on which out of 3-4 candidates get to host games 8(12?) years later. This would make bribery a bit harder to pull off.
What a waste of money
AI just represents reality, it is not bias. What YOU WANT TO DO, is make it bias. FACT.
So Bias is another word for reality or a truthful honest representation. We need to force AI to lie so people's feelings don't get hurt and they can exist in a delusional false reality. Barbie's are 90% white so AI makes them white. It only goes on what it can see. I find this whole video typical of modern left wing identity politics. A loose grip on reality.
Woke people want to have their cake and eat it too, eh? If you want an even split among the CEOs, then you have to also women plumbers, construction workers and other dirty, taxing jobs, and the prisoners. You can't pick and choose. It's up to the artist to show the aspects he wants. With AI, he can try to give a prompt that combines less common attributes. How would you feel if there was a law requiring that you switch your talking CEO mid programme to a more standard one for fair representation? The AIs are already heavily limited for NSFW and deepfakes.
Silicon Valley imprint . That’s a no from me to this experiment.
Maybe you should have read Mises or at least looked up the definition of "Neoliberalism" before you use it. Then you leave the claim for itself without any arguments to back it (bec you have nothing to back it as you use the term incorrectly). Quite embarassing for a college account.
Def. need to define "bias" in all discussion of this. The issue of representational bias has to do with whether AI should show the world as it is, or as it could be, right? If my daughter asks Dall-E to produce a picture of a CEO and sees only men, that reinforces the idea that this career path is not for women. Surely within the four images it offers one can be a woman. The same with astronaut, doctor, lawyer, but also bricklayers and construction workers. What they will do eventually is build in diversity as the default and then you can search more specifically in your prompt after that.
Having to give an example of ‘93% of prisoners are men’ shows how woke it is to represent all jobs equally by gender. I wish a future where it is not needed to give examples like that to counter-argue woke ideology.
Excellent video!
I believe that hard times create strong men, the world is literally on fire , so many problems to solve and overcome, create and transform , i dk how are we gonna face all this at once!

Okay, yes to all the contents in this video. Generative AI does produce stereotypical outputs and programmers should and do treat those biases in datasets all the time (with mixed results). We understand that AI cannot be trustworthy if it learns biased associations or propogates social injustics. But not all algorithmic bias originates from training data. There's a misconception that all AI does is "hold up" a mirror to society, but for the AI experts who actually model algorithmic bias, they look at biases sources from the entire AI learning process. This is includes instrinsic tendencies in the neural net (like temporal baises) to how users sometimes attribute "objectivity" to an algorithmic output. I think the misconception about the "mirror" idea is that it gives AI enthusiasts an excuse to say, "oh AI is not biased, we are." Or even say, "aha, there was no bias. We just live in an unfair world." Sometimes that's true, other times not. Bias is a relative concept. You can train an AI to reflect your prejudices about the world, or you can "naturalize" your predjudices by assuming a stereotypical output is an accurate reflection of reality. It may not be. Some things to pay attention to is what data is included in the model, how that data is labeled, and what reinforcement protocols are used to train your product. My argument, just as somebody who works with generative AI everyday and teaches AI ethics, is that there is no magic escape route for either users or programmers to not really refelct about how AI works, how it is biased, and be honest about what your expectations for AI are. You should not look to AI for an accurate description of the world (that's what other academic scholarship is for) because AI models have to be selective about their data pipeline to have particular functionality desired.
Everyone who uses the internet should take the time to understand feedback loops. That’s exactly what you get when you spend a lot of time on apps that customize content based on past viewing habits etc. When I notice that I’m constantly getting the same type of content I make a point to search for totally new topics to switch things up.
What editing software did you use when editing this video?
Isn't it also a bias to assume that the janitor or the social worker professions are inferior to doctors and engineers?
those jobs are OFTEN (maybe not always) "inferior' in terms of income as compared to a doctor/engineer and that is generally our objective standard.
@@sussybaka6347 um, that "objective standard" IS the bias
👏👏👏

This sums up woke BS. 'We want a 50,50 in the good stuff, but not a 50.50 in the bad stuff' Slow handclap, your saying the quiet parts outloud...
So you're upset at statistical reality lmao
Who cares ?
Lol
Useless people with a lot of free time, without clear objectives in their life, a waste...
These people are just thugs. They aren't doing anything productive. This isn't quiet or non violent protesting at all. Just thugs and should be put in jail.
Oh no the people fighting against the destruction of our planet aren’t going about it in a very palatable way or aren’t paying attention to the optics 😢…. 🤡‘s the lot of you
100% alienating.
Almost like it's funded by oil to make being against oil look ridiculous
They are at this point a cult. Preying on, and radicalising the emotionally unstable and those predisposed to have a paranoid personality type. Peddling their lies of doom and the end of the world as most cults do. Certain types of people are epecially vulnerable to this type of scaremongering and we need to call it out for what it is to make people aware. Its disgusting this is tolerated when its fundamentally an eco- terrorism cult.
I'm really glad to see that within this video you challenge the idea that Just Stop Oil's actions are turning the public's opinion against positive environmental steps and use research to show that this opinion often used by the media isn't supported with evidence.
peopel are against road blockage not climate protests
Odious comparison
all the boy protesters have noddle arms. Seriously, there isnt a bicep between them.
I wouldn't be at all shocked if it was JSO who cut down the sycamore gap. It's the pointless self destructive thing they go in for.
Jso are a terrorist organisation suffering with climate hysteria. Remember these are the people who go holiday 2 to 3 times a year abroad and they all drive Chelsea tractors
It has cost the police £7.5 million in costs by these idiots, and never have they been arrested for disruption and vandalism!!
Bunch of eco terrorists have done nothing to benefit the environment. Go and pick some litter up heck around here we could do with the bins being emptied, go volunteer to dispose of the waste as unmanaged waste = pollution..
they should protest in gaza.
For what? No one is looking there, protesting is meaningless
@@tomlxyz 2 birds with 1 stone? nvm
The 3.5% population thing is what XR tried to do, but I think too many people where put off by their tactics as well.
opinion or not i think the protestors are brave for standing up for what they believe in, something very much lost in our modern culture.
If only they were educated. These elementary school dropouts don't know the fist thing about anything they're standing for. They know nothing. They read a pamphlet, memorized it, and is all they scream. They don't know anything that wasn't on that sheet and they don't even understand what it meant. They just all shout the same thing because they really are all that stupid. They aren't brave. They're uneducated brainwashed idiots.
It takes a lot of bravery to have an opinion no one cares enough to hit you for lmao
🦬💩
I have been wondering if they are funded by oil corporations. Like the "green footprint" thing was. Seems counterintuitive but it gets the focus/blame off of them and onto the consumer. I for one have switched from against oil to ~neutral because of this
It's partly funded by Climate Emergency Fund, which seems to have a habit of funding activists who do things that gather negative attention and make people dislike them. They're either funded by the fossil fuel industry or so insanely incompetent at getting the public on their side. They even pay activists salaries which seems weird, if an activist has a conviction they wouldn't make it about money
Then you’re politically weak
Psycopats !
Petrol industry finances them. Why? To ridicule eco activism and antagonize the people against it.
Just Stop Oil propaganda
Just stop oil is just keep oil propaganda, making it look ridiculous
Or how about instead of crying about it and blocking ppl going to work or a doctor. They go to school and find a way to make oil obsolete if they put the same effort into making cleaner energy or gas/oil alternatives then they would stop oil or at least need less of it
There is no clean energy. That's a myth. Do you have any idea how much pollution is caused just to make what people call clean energy? Gas is way cleaner than EV.
You know they can't think that far
We already have the alternatives, they just don't get build because it's more profitable to regularly sell oil instead of renewable where you can't sell sun/wind once the plant is built
