    Do you leave the remaining tails to dangle or do you do anything with them? I usually sew mine down and cut them off and it's a big undertaking when I do lots of color changes

    • @KyleKunnecke
      @KyleKunnecke 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the question. If it is a slippery yarn, I might still take a moment to thread the tail onto a tapestry needle and weave it in a few more stitches, following the path of the same color yarn in the knitting if possible... then, I trim the tails to about 1".... after blocking, I'll trim them flat. If the yarn has lots of wool content (non superwash), I might just trim the tail flat with the work after it has been blocked.

    Very helpful tutorial, especially for beginners in intarsia. Now I wonder would the cast on be done the long tails cast on version without the slipknot? I prefer that way of long tails casting. Would it work here?

    • @KyleKunnecke
      @KyleKunnecke 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It would work but that first stitch might be a bit more loose than if you use the slip knot for the first stitch. Give it a try! I imagine that once some fabric has been knitted you might need to finesse that join and weave in the end to create a seamless edge.

    How do you keep the first knit/purl row tight? This is a brilliant tutorial. Thank you

    • @KyleKunnecke
      @KyleKunnecke 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you found it useful! After the cast on is completed, the first knit/purl row is worked as normal. If you find that your first row when working intarsia seems a little more loose than you prefer, consider using a needle one size smaller for that first row after the CO, then switch back to the original needle and continue the project. As you know, swatching is your friend - so give it a try on a smaller piece of fabric to make sure the results are what you want before casting on for the project. Have fun!

    Thank you! Trying this out on a cardigan. I like the tip about casting on extra stitch at the end. I have more of a gap at the beginning even though I've tried it a couple of times to be tighter at the beginning, but I had it to when I was using the backward loop method.

    I’m guessing If we knit flat, I assume the reverse side is handled equally elegantly, but is there anything specific to purling? I’m trying to picture it in my mind, and I feel I’d need to go in an opposite direction or something when throwing the float over, but I guess I should experiment. Just thought maybe you’d already had experience of it. Anyway, this video is excellent - thank you! Edit: I see you have videos that address the reverse side. I’ll leave my question here so others will know to go look for another video.

    This and your prior vid is exactly what I've been searching for - a technique that lets you knit both strands continental, and just twists the floaters without "knitting" both together at any point (the latter always shows the floater on the right side for me :/) But this technique is elegant enough that I think learn to love it :)
