Power your reef tank with your car
มุมมอง 3009 หลายเดือนก่อน
I recently survived an 12 hour power cut by hooking my aquarium up to my car to power the heater, return and flow pumps, using a battery inverter. I didn't go much into how to use the inverter because I don't want to say something wrong when it comes to electronics, but it is very easy and took just a few minutes following the included instructions. Set up and 6-month review of the Reefloat ATU/ATO
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
I thought I'd start making videos about some of the equipment running my tank. ATU/ATOs are an essential piece of equipment to maintain salinity. I'm using an ATU from Reefloat, a UK cottage industry business. This video is not sponsored and Reefloat were not involved at all in its production. There's not much to say other than it works! How I (almost) crashed my tank twice this month!
มุมมอง 4.3Kปีที่แล้ว
A difficult month in reefing, but managed to avoid a full on crash. Trying a new mic in this video, think I was holding it too close in parts! And apologies for the beeping in the background, I didn't notice it until after and didn't want to re-record...
Update on my reef!

A tour of my nano fish mixed reef!
มุมมอง 2.9Kปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I give you a brief overview of my nano fish-focussed mixed reef. Of course, most of the fish were hiding... Instagram: so_so_reef Music: FASSounds (via Pixabay).
Those Vietnamese RFAs are stunning! They dont split, right?
@@sauceyreef5166 no, I never saw them split! Some of them have gotten quite large now.
@@so_so_reef Any recent videos of them I can watch? If not please make one!
@@sauceyreef5166 I’m not very good at making regular videos! I actually shut this tank down and upgraded it to a lagoon style peninsula nano. It has a lot more LPS and gorgonians.
@@so_so_reef your aesthetic and coral placement is miraculous. I would really love to see, and I am sure some others would also! I have some nanos also and really like your tank. Are the clowns still making it?
@ thank you! I’d like to say it’s all planned but I tend to just move stuff around until I’m happy with it. I post a lot more on instagram under the same name. I will try and make some new videos soon! Yes, the clowns are still with me, enjoying the new tank.
So natural n beautiful...
This looks great! How do you control the GSP and the Pulsing Xenia. I hear they can take over a tank.
@@HectorO I can just peel the Xenia off the rocks pretty easily. In fact I was able to remove it all when I got bored of controlling it and it didn’t come back. The green star polyp I kept on a separate rock and it would grow along the top of the sand, so it was easily to snip off with scissors.
@ thanks!
My xenia is shrinking and my firework clove died 😭🤷🏻♀️
What are your levels do you dose reef care?
@ I put,magnesium,fusion 1$2,iron,potassium,trace element,amino acid,coral nutrition,coral food. Other corals are doing fine=duncan,candy cane,pipe organ,setosa montipora,gsp,acan,favia,hammer
Yeah fiji leather are beautiful coral but they get pissed easy and take about 1-2 weeks to get happy I have one
GSP in a tiny ball at the beginning "oh don't worry about me I am an innocent tiny ball and will not grow over every single thing in the tank and leave you with a box of water and green polyps lololol".
20 OR 35 GAL CUBE?
So cool seeing something a bit different 😍 I did a vid on an awesome SEA FAN display 🙌🏽 love ya work
Coming along nicely!
@@IndoorEcosystem thanks! It now has fish and shrimp, I need to do an update.
@@so_so_reef I'm looking forward to seeing it!
Great update 👏👌🙌
@@queencityreefs thanks! Hopefully next one I'll be soon.
What do you keep your nitrates at ?
@@tobis4076 honestly not sure! I'd like them to be about 10-20. I should check what they are on this tank.
🙌🙌🙌 looking forward to see the progression
Love the look of the little wave maker
It's really cute and tiny!
Looking forward to seeing the fish and shrimp going in. Are you doing multiple fish/shrimp pairs or just one pair?
@@MichaelPybus I'd love a double pair, so a mated pair of shrimp and mated pair of goby! But let's see what I come across.
I had pistol shrimp for 13 years now with byself because of his mate the yellow watchmen coby jumped then I got a yellow watchmen and I’ll tell they’re so loud especially at night when I first had him I thought someone was trying to break in. Lol😊. They sound is loud especially when they are moving hermit crabs by smashing that shell. One warning sand cloud. 3-4 entrances there hardy too
@@moereefer wow 13 years! I have a candy cane pistol shrimp in my main tank that is about 4 years old and he refuses to pair up with any fish I've tried to introduce 😅 I always think he can't live much longer but sounds like he has some years ahead of him!
Simple yet very elegant. Some dragons breath macro algae would be cool.
This is a really cool little tank and the scape looks really natural.
@@IndoorEcosystem thanks! I googled pictures of their natural habit and it's surprisingly sparse. Let's see if I can resist the temptation to add coral 😅
@@so_so_reef It's always tough not to add something with a splash of colour!
@@IndoorEcosystem hoping the fish and shrimp will bring that! I plan on perhaps a pair of Yasha gobies, with a candy cane pistol. I'm hoping the contrast of the white and red against the stark scape will really make them pop and stand out.
Biotopes are amazing and very underappreciated in the salt water part of the hobby.
@@hakmanp.8702 I agree! I think I'm using the word more loosely than the freshwater people, who get very specific with their scapes. But still, I think in general there are not enough niche aquariums in salt water.
@so_so_reef Well, there is Biotopes and Biotypes. Maybe it fits more into a Biotype then.
Beautiful system! Could i please ask what settings you run your mp10s at? Keep up the good work.
I now have four and I run them at 100% on reef crest mode!
Awesome tank!
Thanks!
P r o m o s m 🙏
Simple n beautiful tank bro !!! 😅😂
Thanks ✌
Beautiful tank
Thank you!
I need to get one of these! I have a boat battery that I can use if I ever needed it. The tank looks great man! Glad to see nothing bad happened!
I'm amazed they're not talked about more. Real life saver! Thanks for the kind words!
I should say this isn't really a how-to, partly because it's so easy, and partly because I'm not really confident giving out electrical advice 😂 but it's an FYI that these exist and every reefer should have one if they have a car!
💯
That’s a really nice nano tank! You gave it a great sense of depth with the coral position and color contrast. 👍
How are you liking the noophysce?
I love the light in theory, but I struggle to recommend it full heartedly because the fan is quite loud. This tank is in a room where it doesn't bother anyone but I wouldn't be able to stand it in a busier living area! It's a shame as other the light is great!
Beautiful tank..Quick question .. The red on the sand , would that be Cyano starting to build up ? I have the same red on my soft coral tank. I'm thinking about treating it before it gets to the top of my sand bed ..If it's Cyano.
You mean between the sand and front glass? This is really normal to have, I don't think I've seen a mature tank without it. It's not necessarily cyano, it could be beneficial bacteria, like purple non sulphur bacteria. Every now and again I might scrap it off but in general it doesn't bother me. I wouldn't treat for it.
@so_so_reef Thanks for the info...Glad I didn't treat my tank...Man I gotta tell u your tank.is amazing ...What's the name of the coral you have on the back that looks like a super big Gargonia...
@@milkspotscausemetospazzout6813 no worries and thanks! The big green one in the back left is a green Kenya tree, then the rest along the back are all different types of Gorgonian 🪸
@so_so_reef thank you,I have asked people on many videos and could not get a response for the longest time.. I'll be looking for one of these soon
@@milkspotscausemetospazzout6813 you're welcome!
Very nice ! Lots of movement . One of my new favorite tanks 😊
Thank you!
great looking tank
Thanks!
I’m hesitant on starting a saltwater tank, do you have any advice on what to look out for and what pay attention to when first cycling a tank?
Oh gosh, that's such a big question! My advice would be to use live rock if you can. I set this tank up with live rock and added corals and fish within a few days. I also included a bit of cycled biomedia from another tank. That meant it was cycled essentially straight away. I obviously checked there was no ammonia or nitrites before adding livestock. But other tanks I've done the classic cycle and the only thing you can do is test frequently, go slow, try and get a bit of live rock in there if you're using dry. Keep your lights off for the cycle. You should definitely give it a go. Best of luck!
What are your par meters and how do you control your algae?
I will double check but I think it's about 100 on the sand bed maybe 250 at the top? But will confirm. I just rip the macro out when it gets too big.
are you using np k7 because of the anemone ? I am planning to get the k7 mini so i'm open to suggestion
The tank came with a light that I used for about 6 months without issue. It grew coral for sure. After I added the anemone it was always stretching for more light so I decided to get something more powerful. The K7 is very powerful - at 100% it gave me 4000 PAR at the surface on this small tank! I like the light, the only criticism is that I think the fans are quite loud. Others have said the fan noise is not that bad, so maybe I got an especially noisy one.
@@so_so_reef Thank you for the reply ! I think i will go with the k7 mini. Its exterior will probably fit much better than the k7 on my 20gal cube.
@@ccn5065 good luck! Finding the right light can be a challenge
So beautiful but so simple!!! Nice job there! Do you have an instagram page???
Thanks! Yes same name as this channel :)
Beautiful tank can I ask where you got your blue macro from
Just from another reefer online. Are you in the UK? Just pulled a load out.
Yes I am in the uk been looking everywhere for some
@@leeandmandybattersby5958 are you on instagram? If so you can message me there or on ultimate reef, I can post you some.
That’s great thanks
how many gallons?
About 16 US gallons or 13 imperial.
Stunning Softies tank worthy of bragging rights! I feel you on that Yellow Fiji Leather coral. They were pretty common and cheap 20 years ago, but now a days almost impossible to find and pretty pricey when you do! Id almost sell my soul to get my hands on one again!!!
Thank you so much! So apparently Fiji has opened back up and we should be seeing them much more regularly again. I must've got some of the first to be imported in years.
Bought my first Fiji in years the other month. I'm about to buy my second one. Advanced Aqaurium Consultancy in Harlow UK has been getting then in at around 70 quid. They have a very large range of basically every coral you can think of.
最后面的珊瑚叫什么名字。
Sorry not sure which coral you mean!
Great tank
Beautiful setup and presentation....what brand are you using for your Automatic Top Off? do you trust it to go on a holiday?.....
I use a reefloat. The video before this one gives a review of it! I trust it completely.
Thanks for pointing that out, site is closed until Feb. 1, will visit when open again.
Stunning reef🪸
love your tank
Great video! You have a very similar colour selection that I'm hoping to slowly acquire 🙂
Thanks! Good luck, I think softies have more variety than people make out.
@@so_so_reef I'm just looking for less drama out of them to be honest 😅 They seem pretty chilled.
@IndoorEcosystem definitely! This tank is very easy.
how much nitrate do you add for a gallon ?
I dose 1 ml of reef zlements nitroplus on about 50 litres
Let us know what you decide as a battery back up. I am in the UK and have been thinking hard about the possibility of power cuts especially as we move on to so called 're-newable' energy. I use kalk and when my pH gets too high I dose white vineger (,CH3COOH) very slowly, it drops pH quite quickly.
Wow you have a great tank.
Thank you!
Very cool tank!
Thank youN
I read soft corals give off chemicals that limit hard coral growthe especially sps
I read this too. I was thinking about putting one of the Fiji yellow leathers in my sps dominant tank but was advised against it for this reason.
@so_so_reef i read some more I have 100rds of discoma and rodactis and hairy rodactis I got a tank full of sps and lps I read its the lether coral family Alcyoniidae and others
Note: Wouldn't work in SE Asian countries, they'd rather eat the abalones than sell them in an LFS
