His Holiness Dungsey Garab Rinpoche, a Yogi Rinpoche of the ngakpa tradition, was born in Brekha, eastern Bhutan, as a son of the famous Dungse Thinley Norbu Rinpoche, the incarnation of Terton Drimed Odzer and emanation of Kunkhyen Longchen Rabjam, and grandson of the great Dudjom Rinpoche Jigdral Yeshe Dorje, the incarnation of Terton Dudjom Lingpa and emanation of Guru Padmasambhava himself. They are Rinpoche’s root gurus, and through them, in Rinpoche’s veins runs the heavenly blood of the Tibetan king Trisong Deutsen, a manifestation of Manjushri. Rinpoche's mother, Jamyang Choedon, comes from the blood lineage of Kunkhyen Pema Karpo of the Drukpa Kagyud lineage, and his maternal grandfather is the great master Sonam Zangpo Rinpoche, one of the main disciples of Sakya Shri.
The followers of Dudjom New Treasure lineage regard Rinpoche as the true successor and lineage holder of H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche.
