Mostly in the mid-1700’s, and while looking for a better life, many Irish came to the New World as part of the “Great Migration”. It didn’t happen all at once and there were some unscrupulous brokers and other bad luck. A genre of Irish ballads arose telling the stories of longing, separation, and risks taken.
