    Hi Mike. Thanks for this review on using and providing sample images of the XF30/2.8. I'm on the fence of getting one but sacrificing a lense -- the XF35/2.0. I'm just a hobbyist shooting street, family, landscapes, cityscapes, travel and food photography. I'm noticing though that I don't use the 35/2.0 that much since I got the 27/2.8ii. I also have the 50/2.0. Do you think that the 30/2.8 would be a decent "walk around do-it-most" lense with a great macro feature that will be useful shooting food and other products? Though I must take into consideration my X100v which also shoots decent macro images. Hoping to get your reply at the soonest. Though the copy I found is minty, it's kind of expensive at US$495 approx. I'm thinking that I'd use the 30/2.8 more on food photography which I do a lot but can see expanding on others. BUT of course the cost is more than 2X of the 35/2.0 (2nd hand). I'm just thinking that over time I may regret sacrificing the 35/2.0 which has a better build quality (most metal) compared with the 30/2.8 (with plastic components combined with metal) and also the 35/2.0 is one stop brighter/faster than the 30/2.8

    Hi! So, you would get rid of the 45 and 63 and replace it with the 55? I have the 45 now, and use it for a bit wider shots (35mm range is my favorite) and for documentary jobs. The 63 is my go to for portraits in environment, my main focus. BUT if I could sell both and switch to the 55, to. cover both, I'd be settled :). Then there's just the question to add the 80mm or 110 for some more close up portraits. I am now testing the 110 and I'm not immediately in love with it yet :).

    • @MikeBanom
      @MikeBanom 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey! I tested out the GF45 for a few weeks. It's a solid lens. Same with the GF63. I did like that one a bit better than the 45 for my purposes. But overall… the GF55 is absolutely incredible. Gives you a bit better low light being a 1.7. But! It is way larger and heavier. I have a pretty mega comparison on the 80 vs 110!

      @JosefienTondeleir 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MikeBanom Thanks Mike! I've decided today to get the 55, just because I saw some portrait work made with it, that really suits my style. But I've also decided not to get rid yet of the 45 but I will sell the 63... And then decide later on the 80 of 110 and in the meantime I'll use my Hasselblad 110 lens with the adapter I have :). Curious to see how that works! Thanks for thinking along. And I'll be sure to check your channel for future dilemmas.

    I'm on edge for 20-35 (mostly due to price and I wish there would be something wider w/AF). For now using Nikkor AF-S 14-24/2.8 on GFX, but it doesn't really work that great on wider than 22mm.

    Good test Mike. I tested it on people and I found the auto eye detection was actually pretty good before the family update. I've shot a couple of events and I had no problems at all with my GFX 100S II so I was actually a little bit nervous about updating the firmware given that the camera was already working quite well but your video shows that it's different obviously for subject detection. I tested using two different lenses and I found that it was nailing focus probably about 80% of the time and I can live with that given that it's a medium format and it's digital so you just overshoot people complaining about the auto focus in a medium format camera have no understanding how they actually work they are not run n' gun style cameras. Always appreciate your thorough videos. Great Job mate Thanks nev

I was genuinely happy with the AF update - if i can get a few great shots of my dogs in motion, it's really cool! Ultimately I know it comes down to the right tool for the Job. I think if you shoot weddings or any sort of events, 100SII is a great upgrade and a great first camera with a backup 100S. iirc AF works best with eye autofocus off. Also 100s ii sensor readout is slow, which hurts tracking AF. Regardless of processor. XH2s and GFX 100 ii are the cameras for Fuji’s best tracking AF.

      No bad questions, and honestly you're speaking a bit of greek to me, ha. I think Fuji's issue is the bodies get better at AF, but the lenses are old tech, and the glass is huge, so its slow. Genuinely I'm pretty hyped on this AF update!

    The 100II has been so good at focusing, man. I haven't seen definitive evidence but I think they intentionally gimp the 100S II vs the 100II with sub-par autofocus to differentiate. "Same" sensor and "same" processor?? Seems strange eh?

    Hi, thanks for the interesting video! I have not extensively tried it myself yet on my X-T5 (and the GFX 100s' update isn't out yet), but you could perhaps still try switching from 'zone'-focus to 'wide / tracking'-focus. On Sony's, my experience is that a 'wide' focus point works best with the automated focus functions. Especially in video AF tracking with Sony's, this makes a significant difference, where the focus would go from 'face' to 'eye' as it starts to identify and eye in the scene. The wide-focus is best for uncomplicated scenes, and zone-focus better for more complicated scenes with more clutter, multiple subjects etc. where you need to single out the subject. The other settings you changed I would do similar. I am not sure it will yield better results, but maybe worth a try. My theory is that also the 'eye'-autofocus switches over the grid of autofocus points, and the more points it has for tracking, the more accurate the tracking becomes as it can track the movement over the sensor. If the focus is limited to the 'zone', the eye may go out of the zone, and back into the zone in another location, and that puts the tracking off as it needs to re-acquire the eye, causing a temporary loss of focus. The automated focus functions quite heavily rely on contrast in the scene, and I am therefore not surprised that the autofocus works less well on a dark eye on a dark face of a dog, and better with an eye that contrasts more with the fur. And it would work less well in darker scenes. Wishing you a great and healthy 2025!

      Ah so you're the smarter one getting the 9L! Do you arrange it like I do - one spare lens and one camera w/ lens on it? I never even considered the 9L due to me wanting the smallest bag possible, so I'm wondering if it's basically the same setup just with more space. Man the water bottle holder is game changer. I don't know if there is literally another sling on the market that holds both a tripod and water bottle.

    • @MikeBanom
      @MikeBanom หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! I'm trying to make shorter videos, ha. So I cut out the research segment. I did the research in April, and I feel like the sling bag market EXPLODED as of recent. I considered the: Peak Design every day sling 6L: Things I like: • Great Design • Peak system - hooks • Organization is good. Battery/SD pockets. Dividers seem good. • Waterproof pockets What I don’t like: No water bottle / tripod without extra straps. At least from my initial research. Being transparent I didn’t go to the store to check this out, but overall it just seems a large bag, and I wanted something a bit more sleek. Belroy Light Sling (hey one can dream): Things I like: • Organization. Looks on par with peak and all. • Design is minimal, i like. What I don’t like: • No tripod, no water bottle • Not really a camera bag. ONA - The Rockaway I found this bag doing some research, its decently popular, so I figured Id mention it. I had a domke fujifilm sling that I didnt love because it gave off a messenger bag kind of vibe, adn this is pretty much teh same thing. The organization isnt great, and of course, no tripod or water bottle. And lastly the price is high. Chrome Industries: I wanted to love chrome as a sling, but ultimately these arent really optimized for cameras. And none of them could nicely fit a water bottle and tripod. Flag Nor Fail Momentum Sling 7L: Things I like: • They did design this to handle cameras with an inner camera sleeve • Design. • Looks very comfortable. What I don’t like: Ultimately I decided to pass this one up for a couple of reasons. • First, obviously no tripod or water bottle. But I was considering this regardless. • No inner pockets/organization. • No dividers, but I know this would hold the GFX and lens well based on size. • Ultimately I loved this design but it was lacking way too much in features and its not really a camera bag. So I moved on! Last but not least: Nomatic McKinnon sling 8L: Things I like: First let me say I went to B&H (best camera store in NYC and potentially the US) • Organization is amazing. • Fits the GFX fit perfectly. • This bag has a feature where you can leave the bag unzipped and use a stretchy band to temp lock the bag. Good if you are swapping lenses or ND filters frequently staying in one spot. • Bag has handles • The straps have anchor points and they swivel. Also no buckle. I’m not fan of a buckle/clip on these slings because of potential undoing it, unintentionally of course. • Water resistant zippers What I didnt like: • Big one first - no water bottle. • This is an expensive bag. It supports a tripod, but you need to buy accessory straps for $20. Bit much if you ask me. • This is an 8L, and while I have a huge GFX camera and lenses, I wanted the bag to be small.

    Thanks for this. I am just getting into the GFX system. I tested both the 80mm 1.7 and the 110mm 2 at a Fujifilm event near where I live. I found I preferred the 80mm 1.7 to the 110. The 110 mm, was very close to a perfectly corrected optical lens, but the output was just too clinical for me. While the 80mm had it’s optical flaws as well as the frustrating slow noisy AF drive, I preferred the images from it. It had the character I have come to love. It reminds me of the images I have shot in the past with lenses like the Canon EF 85mm 1.2 II (Canon EF) and the SAL 135mm 1.8 CZ (adapted using a Sony E mount to A mount adapter). The colors and character of these lenses were mind blowing. I hope to get the 80mm 1.7 first and then eventually the 110mm when I can afford them. But the images I took using the 80mm at the Fujifilm event left me wanting more. The 110 images was awesome but was not imprinted in my brain like the 80mm. I can see my use case for having both but it’s a really expensive proposition, so the 80mm would come first when I can get the funds to purchase it. I really appreciate this comparison, it was extremely helpful. A side note, the Fujifilm representatives all said they preferred the 110mm.

      To be honest I think as you pointed out, the lenses are different enough to where you could def justify owning both! They each have their own character for sure. I would say it seems the majority of people prefer the 110, but it really comes down to size/what focal length you want. Because Bokeh is great on both the lenses, and they both are really fun to shoot with. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment!
