One of Joplin's most melodious and expressive pieces, along with Magnetic Rag, and this young man absolutely kills it. He really gets the song and his dynamics are as good as I've ever heard. Crying as I type this because of the respect and emotion he brings to the piece. Bravo!

yes technique - sounds a bit like the bouncing ball - jazz by numbers doesnt work - too metronomic for me

Did old grandad have spells or did he cast a few spells in his day? This piece of music certainly casts a spell on the listeners. Whewee!

There is a piano roll of James P Johnson performing this but it usually plays too fast and lacks the delicacy and dynamic range of a live performance. I believe this lady's performance is very close to the intention of the composer. I have practised for hours with this piece and have come nowhere near. I was not in the audience but I join the applause.
