Oil tankers would need a pretty thorough cleaning before taking on any other types of cargo. Maybe why OBO's are rare? I sailed on an OBO in the 70's MS Torne (Swedish flag?) and we actually came into the Mersey to offload at Tranmere oil terminal. The largest ship ever to enter the Mersey in those days!

You missed one special category of ships- the O.B.O 's. Oil/Bulk Ore are not a common type of ships, by they are and they fall under both dry and liquid bulk carriers. Also they have a more complicated classification rules. In my 25 years of dealing with ships (5 years as ship repair engineer) I have seen only twice such a ship.
