The deserted and forgotten Roman town of Corbridge
I'm journeying along Hadrian's Wall - the massive construction the Roman Empire created to separate Roman ruled Britain from the so-called 'barbarians' in what is now Scotland. Much of it has been destroyed over the centuries but a surprising amount survives.
And near the modern (or rather medieval) town of Corbridge in the county of Northumberland is the abandoned Roman town of Coria - the first version of Corbridge.
It was once a Roman metropolis boasting bath houses and great monuments. Now, it's in ruins. Because of the centuries it was robbed of its stones for other buildings and then covered over and forgotten.
Well, here it is for you.
