I'm a Maine native that loves the sea and the back country. I hunt, trap, fish and love it all. I'm self employed and forage and harvest to make most of my living, Whether it's clams, marine worms, moose sheds, lobster/crab, scallops or fur. I'm not a nine to five guy, its outdoors and in the wild for me no matter the season. Love taking photo's so thought i'd start with a few vids hope you all enjoy...

Most grouse are <1kg, but they're fearless. I got swarmed by one while snowboarding. Crazy, because they're oblivious to the fact that we can catch, injure, or kill them very easily in self-defence or fully intentionally (hungry?).
Astoundingly beautiful handsome male grouse
That was "Awesome"!! The hand...is quicker than the wings! 👍😊
He's so cute
This video was 4 years ago and they're three/four times as bad now. Completely devastated the clam beds.
I didn’t like him catching this beautiful bird! That wasn’t respectful! He did this because he could! It doesn’t make you look tough to catch an innocent bird! I bet this poor bird was scared!
The hunting season was open on them and i was going to kill it and eat it. However i had a soft moment and let it go.
These grouse are pretty funny. My favorite is the Western Capercaillie. They think they're tough too, but they're a pushover like this one. Their defiance is rather charming, cute in a way. Who's that little revolutionary! George Grouse-ington, is that you? What a killer wittle guy.
th-cam.com/video/-7pXeBuzMaI/w-d-xo.html here's buddy the grouse
grouse (and most birds in general imo) are such fascinating and beautiful animals. Whenever I look at them a cant help but think of the millions of years of diversification and adaptation they've gone through since the non-avian dinosaurs bit the bullet. And now we are bigger and tougher than most birds. Funny how the tables turn like that over a few hundred million years lol
Excuse my language i promise my edicate has improved. More vids to come with the ol man for sure
Never tried that method🤠
Good Eating
Interesting clip, beautiful creature!
It's a Ruffed Grouse. Grouse are aggressive during lekking season. Of course his nearly turkey-sized Old World cousin, the Capercaillie would just step on him.
I just killed one of these things today there meet is beautiful
THANK YOU for RELEASING him!! xox I love you!
Had a grouse move in near my house, and it became super protective of the area due to a nest. It was hilarious for awhile but often I would have to come home with arms full of stuff and this thing would start pecking at my ankles. Needless to say the only thing I could do was make sure it understood that the porch was off limits by giving it a swift kick. Not something I am proud of but just pointing out these things will attempt to OWN whatever area they live in. It is a combination of amusing, sad and annoying.
That's not Ripogenus Lake. There is no such thing, it's Ripogenus Dam connected to Chesuncook lake.
So the map is wrong
Awesome catch of northern ruffed grouse. Those birds are so cocky !He didn't want u in his space would be my guess.
She thought she was tough😅
I think its a male
Are you a mainer?? Rumford maine boy here. Born and raised
Yep live over in Danforth on east grand.
Nice pahtridge!
That was cool!
It's strange how the "dumb grouse" often get a pass in my book lol. We have a hen who has been hanging out around the house for about six weeks, can't bring myself to shoot her because my little girl loves seeing her.
Why would you shoot her anyway?
@@notthatguy4703 to eat. Ruffed grouse is delicious!
@@jeremypaluck4246 They are delicious. They are also rare. If you shoot and eat them all now, the north woods will never have as much charm, and future generations will never taste it's meat. That would be silly, wouldn't it? Its like the old "I'll give you two cookies in an hour if you don't eat the cookie you alreadt have" iq test.
@@notthatguy4703 I take only a few a year out here. I own 80 acres of untouched land, which is like a little sanctuary as more and more land is flattened and turned into fields for agricultural use each year. More often than not I've found myself just watching the grouse go about their business. In South Western Manitoba ruffed grouse are still somewhat plentiful, it's the sage grouse and spruce grouse that have become nearly extinct sadly, and neither of them are protected.
They are not rare at all,all across canada
Overnight me 3 🦀dozen down south I'll pay💵
Continue bloodworms
took my son's camping here in the 90's. Sites 82 and then 125. Had access to lake and rocky beach at end of fence for floating on tubes. At beach if wind is up and from the west to north northwest, there can be body board waves south side of concrete pier.Kids loved jumping off the pier into the waves.
I love every trip out there we all do
I caught a Ruffed Grouse hen that was doing the wounded wing dance in the road in front of me as I walked my dog. About 15 keets gathered around the feet of my Dane. They are pretty dumb, it's a wonder the species survives.
It’s a pity you didn’t record that, I would’ve loved to see it.
I fished that on the way home a couple years ago.
Should have just cooked him lol
Ur and idiot
@@notthatguy4703 "ur and idiot" ahahahahaha
Where in Washington county was this filmed?
Debois area
Cool video great filming I liked the videos for ya
Better than them getting picked out of the cull bucket at the shop by junkies and sold.
mint
Wow drive around in the snow, how impressive
Wow! I heard those green crabs were starting to invade the place, this video proves it!
So the bait is just placed under straw / hay ? Just one bait do they just grab and go ? Sorry you have so many anti trappers commenting on your Posts
Nice
Crimson red color is beautiful. What time of the year does the leaves turn? Thank you...
That grouse is not the sharpest tool in the shed. But sweet video.
Those grouse don't seem too afraid of you! So cool!
Nice video
how do u a just them?
do u have to do anything to your dukes? or can u use them straight out of the box?
Jake Gilly they have to be adjusted and our traps have to be center swiveled with 3 swivels.
Great video Derek
Wow, I've seen some dumb grouse, but that's a whole 'nother level. Nice catch and release.
Settlers apparently called them “fool hens” because they were so aggressive they’d attack anybody they found, making them easy to catch for dinner.
That is too cool! Never had one so close that we could catch it with our bare hands! That is AWESOME!
Thanks for letting him go. A friend of mine had one follow him to his tree stand then perched on a branch next to him him and went to sleep while my friend was hunting from the stand. The grouse followed him through the woods to his car when he left. The same grouse (most probably) followed my friend's brother when he hunted from the same stand a couple of days later.
What kind of trap is that
Where is this? It's beautiful.
This is in other Maine on the west branch of the penobscot river, The lake is Ripagenus. I have few other vids of the river as well on here. best landlocked salmon fishing river in the country. they raft it alot to one of my favorite places to fly fish..
Theyre not landlocked salmon if theyre in a river that flows to the ocean. Its just not logical 😂.
Also, ive rafted the gorge created by McKay Station just downriver from this a mile or so. Probably the best rafting east of the mississipp.
