Fix Tinker Review Repeat
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 8 ก.พ. 2021
I'll focus on DIY repair projects and product reviews. Whether it's a mechanical, electrical or a design issue, almost anything can be fixed. The repair videos will include consumer electronics, ATVs, plumbing, appliances, 5th wheel RV, toys and whatever else falls apart. I'll review household appliances, shop tools, hardware, yard products, and camping gear after using them for a few weeks or longer. Review and repair videos will frequently explore the internal components as well as weaknesses / strengths of the design. Whenever possible, I'll take the review items apart. Will it fail or why did it fail? Often cheaply made toys and electronics can be fixed at no cost using epoxy, hot glue, contact cleaner, a magnifying glass, and a bunch of patience. Try fixing it, but do it safely.
The grandkids constantly come into my workroom and ask " Pa can you fix this". There's so much imported junk being sold with no quality control, poor components and flimsy construction.

Ryobi 40V Chainsaw Wiring Fail and Fix #Ryobi repair #chainsaw #Ryobi fail #diy #poor connectors
My 6 month old Ryobi 40V Electric Chainsaw Failed. I take it apart and fix it. There were some burnt wires and evidence of very poor construction and assembly methods. I go into detail of why the chainsaw failed and how I improved the connections to be much better than new. The motor wire connections were poorly done and one of the connectors melted. The factory assembly was flawed indicating poor worker training, poor engineering, and poor QC. A must see if you're having issues with your Ryobi chainsaw. I also review a few other Ryobi products I've had issues with over the past year such as circular saws, P102 batteries and a hammer drill. I've been using Ryobi tools for many years, but I see evidence of a decline in both quality control and reliability.

Grand Design Shelf Collapse - Cheap Construction #Grand Design #28BH #RV construction #collapse
มุมมอง 200ปีที่แล้ว
The rear shelf in my 2022 Grand Design Reflection 28BH 5th wheel RV collapsed during the return trip from a camping trip. I show the damage, why it collapsed, and how I fixed it. The shelves are held together using staples and are supported by rather weak and flimsy engineered wood that cannot support significant weight. It is best to store heavy items for transport on the floor or on the bed -...

Drill90Plus Test Disassemble Review. MILESCRAFT Drill90PLUS
มุมมอง 2622 ปีที่แล้ว
Do you need to drill a hole or use a hole saw in a tight spot? A 90 degree attachment will make the job a snap. I tested the Drill90PLUS by MILESCRAFT and took a look inside to see how it's constructed. This is a budget tool that is may do the job for you inexpensively. Take a look. Other brands are available, but not reviewed here. This one did the job. During the disassembly I pointed out the...
Harbor Freight-Drummond Shallow Well Pump. Tank Rusted-Let's take it apart
มุมมอง 11K2 ปีที่แล้ว
A close look at the Harbor Freight Drummond 1hp Stainless Steel Shallow Well pump. I disassemble it and look at the components. I comment on the pumps performance and it's build quality. A post-failure review. The captive air tank rusted through after only two years of use.
Restore portable AC cooling. Clean the hidden condenser coil. No cost fix.
มุมมอง 42K2 ปีที่แล้ว
My decade old Haier roll-around portable A/C unit was not cooling properly. I needed it during renovation work due to very hot weather. Cleaning the filter did not help, and I needed to clean the hidden condenser coil which was caked with years of dust and debris. I'll show the viewer how to effectively clean the evaporator and condenser coils to restore efficient operation. After this deep cle...
Glacier Bay Laundry Work Center - An All-In-One solution for the budget minded
มุมมอง 3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
The Glacier Bay All-In-One Laundry Work Center is a budget-minded product that includes all the necessary parts for installation. It's a bit flimsy and needs some DIY ingenuity to make it more rigid and sable. A few screws are all that are needed, and I'm surprised Home Depot did not include a few cents of hardware to make this a better product. The plumbing components are lower quality, but se...
Kohler Command Pro Governor Fix
มุมมอง 31K3 ปีที่แล้ว
How to replace the governor assembly and govenor pin in a single cylinder Kohler Command Pro engine. This is in my 2003 Craftsman LT1000 Lawn tractor with an 18hp Kohler CV492-s engine. The engine spontaneously started over-revving and most likely would have self destructed. The problem was that the govenor pin came off of the shaft and there was no speed regulation. I show the steps taken to r...

Solar Light Fix for 10 Cents (Not the battery)
มุมมอง 8K3 ปีที่แล้ว
A faulty photoresistor will prevent the Solar Lawn Lights from turning itself off during the daytime. This will constantly drain the battery and it will not charge properly. The solar light will be dim or dark at night. Most people change the battery - as I did - but that's not the real problem. A pack of 10 or 20 Light Dependent Resistors - or Photoresistors is about $1 on Ebay. This fix cost ...
Harbor Freight Flux 125 DCEN Mod
มุมมอง 18K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Convert your Harbor Freight Flux 125 Welder from an AC Flux Core Welder to a DC Electrode Negative DCEN Flux Core Welder. This video will provide technical details to guide you with the conversion. I also review several components and features of the welder. I don't go step by step through the actual conversion, but show the components needed to do the modification. I describe the finished mod ...
I can't wait to do mine right now! that unit looks much like our older two tube model for fresh cool air in and hot exhaust air out which are so hard to find nowadays! 10 years worth of dust should make quite a cloud and makes me wonder why an exterior filter isn't placed on the cover itself!
Can the governor be eliminated for tractor pulling? Yes I’m aware it might over rev. But I’m asking if it can be simply deleted?
Great job. I learned a lot. Thank you 🙏🏼
Thank you so much for making this video! It was really helpful! I thought it was so fun to see you zooming in on your vehicle with the wagon behind. I hope you are staying cool!
You should convert your portable ac unit into a dual hose unit so that it will be way more efficient in cooling your space!
I know! Right? Those single hose units only suck air back out of a dwelling what had just been cooled in the first place, now the two duct units for some reason are hard to come by, and so are 14000 BTU units which in my opinion should be the starting point for a home! Anything less is garbage and 8000 BTU units should not even be considered except to cool a tool shed!
@@agems56 I have a 12,500 btu which I bought from a special store where they sell returned merchandise at Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, etc.. I paid $200! It was a steal! I use it in my bedroom only. Does a really good and quick job!
Why not just use AC coil cleaner? That high pressure air can damage those finns you talked about!
Thank god I found someone with my problem, have Costco wall or fence mounts and light staying on , can’t see photocell on the outside but will now open for internal inspection
Best solution is actually spraying it out with a water hose. Better for cleaning between fins. Then just leave it for a few days to dry out completely before plugging in again.
I have this brand of AC but it is a dual hose. I cannot figure how to remove the chassis and have removed a dozen screws already but it still won’t release 🤦🏼♀️ the evaporator wheel? Is caked with dust as well and cannot access the screws either. So frustrating! This is an excellent video though so thanks for sharing!
Did you have to align anything up when putting on the sump gasket
looking to buy the used #32 FLEXIBLE TUBE MINE LEAKES.
Adding some data to videos about this pump and tank combo: I've measured with a fluke clamp meter the inrush/max as 40A 120Vac.
Great video. Question? When you made the extension cord with the alligator clips attached. I’m assuming the ext cord had three wires. How did you connect the three wire to the two wire ? Which wire from the ext cord was combined/or not, to the two wire. Or should I find a similar cord that’s two wire? Hope I explained my question completely. Thanks in advance for your reply.
My 40V Ryobi chainsaw quit on me yesterday (the smaller model). Gotta borrow my brother's ~40 year-old Homelite that still runs great.
Video was so helpful thank you.
Well done Ken, very well explained.
Thank you for this video!
I've been given some dead solar lights to fix up. I know they're not really worth fixing and are meant to just be replaced, but I like to try and fix anything that stops working. Almost all of them were badly corroded and sustained damage to the LEDs and the JD1803 4-leg IC (one leg broke off when trying to clean it). One light only just had the 4-leg IC get damaged (same leg fell off after trying to clean it). I managed to repair the IC by soldering a tiny wire to the little bit of metal still exposed on the chip and connecting the other end to the pad where the 4th leg connects to. This got the light working again. However, unfortunately, it appears the light/dark sensing has failed. I'm guessing it's a panel issue. There doesn't appear to be a LDR on this light. Instead, I see 2 wires going to 2 separate black blobs. This is what it looks like: imgur.com/IdNLRbS Any idea what this is and if it's repairable? If so, what is needed? I did try scraping away at this blob on one of the unfixable lights, but I couldn't quite make out what was there. Definitely not one of those LDRs shown in this video.
Nice video. I see it claims to be capable of 10’ of lift. Have you tried this, and if so how much does it slow down? I’m wondering how it would do pushing waste up to a blue boy in the bed of a pickup, as people do when boondocking with rough road between the camp spot and dump…
very helpful video during a stressful time!
Great job well done, Taryl is ausumn, love thise teeth he has
Great video.
Great video I plan on doing g this to mine as well. How is the welder still holding up? Tip Forney, or Yes welder wire works so much better than the Vulcan wire.
What keeps that black tank mess from going into your water hose there
Thanks for the question. The Macerator pump has a built-in check valve on the side port that blocks any backflow into the 3/4" hose used for flushing. Also, there's a similar check valve built into the 3" clear black tank outlet adapter I used to show the flow. The flushing hose is only used to flush the black tank and not for filling the fresh water tank. Care needs to be taken to avoid cross contamination into the clean water supply. Also, the 3/4" discharge hoses from the macerator are only used for this purpose and never anything else. Great question!
I thought it looked flimsy from the get go. Appreciate this video. Thank for posting.
Thanks for the comments! The word "flimsy" is accurate. The legs are particularly flimsy. However, I still use it and it hasn't cracked or failed yet.
I have two of these saws and they work when there's no load, but when I try to cut wood, they craps out. Ryobi said it was either the board ($75) or the motor($120) I reconnected the wires to no avail. I replaced the trigger on one and ir worked for a couple minutes, but then BLAH!!! .Check the muffler on the Homelite saw. It was rattling. I'm going to check ALL my ryobi connections now after seeing you fix this saw. Thanks!m LOVED THE BLOOPERS!
Hope you get the saws fixed. My son has the identical saw. It works just fine and has made hundreds of cuts without any issues. I may take his apart at some point and see how the motor connections are in his saw for comparison. Thanks for noticing the muffler on the Homelite saw - a quick fix. Thanks for watching!
Throw away the garbage connectors and solder the wires together.
In the factory: 10 seconds to screw on a connector VS a minute to solder the wires together. I was really surprised to see how poorly the connection were made. Thanks for watching.
If you still have this mower, it’d be great if you could do a video reviewing the throttle and choke adjustments. That is, the position of the carburetor fans when it’s in choke, full throttle and low idle. Thank you!
Great video. What value capacitors did you use? Nice to see HF made a lot of improvements to the welder compared to the blue 90 that I have.
It would be nice to the output on an oscilloscope. Both with and without the coil, would be interesting to see the difference. nice work.
Agree. Would be interesting to see the actual level of filtering by the choke coil.
I don't know much. How do you see output on a scope?
Those switches are cheap. I expected it to fail. Good review so I subscribed. and I like the channel.
Hi and thanks for watching and your positive comments! They were under-rated. The amperage is the important number and the manufacturer should have used switches with a rating of greater than 12 amps. 15 amps was my recommendation, and the higher rated switch is only slightly larger in size, but is double the cost. I bought a replacement switch at Home Depot for about $7.00 so I could operate the pump safely.
Since that first 1 horsepower stainless steel Drummond Harbor freight water pump tank rusted out so bad in just 2 years why did you go and buy another 1 that was basically the same exact thing? Don't you think maybe you should have bought the 1 horsepower cast iron 1 instead or something different or why do you like this certain kind in particular just curious?
Thanks for watching!! I had the two year replacement warranty from Harbor Freight, so the replacement was at no extra cost above what I paid for the warranty at the time of original purchase. The replacement is actually better quality and has performed well and shows no signs of rusting through after the first season of use. If it fails and I can't easily fix it, I'll look for another brand. A good cast iron pump can last for a decade or more. A fiberglass pressure tank would be better than steel. We'll see . . . . I appreciate your comments.
pretty amazing how everyone says the faucet assembly is easy but none of these damn videos shows it.
I seriously doubt that you were able to screw it to the floor. In fact, i don't think you did,
Hmmm? I pondered your comment for hours . . . Did I violate the laws of physics, or worse defy the ethics code of the DIY Plumbers and Slop Sink Consortium? How could I have possibly screwed this slop sink to my wooden sub floor during construction work on my kitchen? Indeed the sink CAN be screwed to the floor, and, indeed, I did this. Well, at least temporarily. The legs have a flange at the base that allows this. To use an impact driver to insert the screws into the floor, the bottom shelf needs to be lifted off. In the quest for full disclosure, once it was moved to its permanent resting spot in the basement as a laundry tub, I didn't screw it down onto the concrete floor. I'll post a time mark showing the flange at the bottom of the leg. Thanks for watching the video and your comment! ** The flange at the base of the legs is seen at 7:42 **
My solar light does not have that small sensor on the outside . I have 6 of these lights I have to fix .
The newer solar panels have an integrated light sensor so I am not familiar how to fix them or if it is possible to change the sensor. Sorry . . .

Thanks for your review and for your demonstration of the product with a hole saw.
Great video! Love your process. Thank you!
Over the last seven years I’ve used similar pumps (of two different brands). At home the sewer clean-out is 100ft from the RV. The pumps overheated and eventually failed until I actually read the directions and found that I was overloading the pump with excess back-pressure. I now use two hoses in parallel and the pump runs cool even after running through the black tank and gray tank running almost constantly. Also, gray water (leaving the valve open) will drain through the (not-running) pump, but it will likely damage the pump after a while. (I learned all of the above the hard way. Four ruined pumps.) I haven’t done it yet, but I intend to spray some red paint on the ends of all the hoses and fittings I use for waste water. I have anti-siphon valves on both ends of the hose I connect to tank flush. And one final: Camco makes a garden-hose-to-sewer adapter, which I’ve been using.
Does water go down into the steel tank where the bladder is or is that strictly air down there?
Thanks for the question and watching the video! The steel tank contains water from the pump. The air bladder is also inside the tank and is filled with air at approx 17psi. Like a balloon inside the tank. This helps to regulate the water pressure. The air bladder still maintained air pressure and did not fail. The tank failed (severe rust) and would not hold water. The air bladder is pressurized via a Schrader valve at the rear of the tank.
You did an amazing job for your first TH-cam video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 thank you for your knowledge
Thanks for the compliment! The welder has performed flawlessly since the mod. Checkout my other videos.
This is the legs shows lol
Poor design. Thanks for the comment.
The plumbing is not the problem is the legs which won’t stay on I needed to add some screws to the legs to stayed on
Thanks I had the same problem with the legs falling off!!!
Thanks for watching!! Another poor design from the "engineers". Glad the video helped.
Well I’ll be dipped. Yet another ryobi tool that crapped out. Looks like a good fix!
Thanks for watching and your comment.
Simple fix for a simple fan! I like it!
Thanks
Well done on the detail, explanation and step by step video. Nice job and thank you!
Thanks for the comments
Wouldn’t it be possible to mount the motor /pump onto a larger pressure tank ?
Probably with the appropriate plumbing fittings. Haven't tried it. Thanks for watching.
Well done 🎉😊
Thanks for watching!
great video thats exasctly what I have got to do to mine thanks for you help and great video footage
Thanks for watching!
