    That’s messed up that wouldn’t pass it all here in Canada. They have to be at least 6 inches apart from each other. All you’re doing is transferring the heat from the hot side into the cold and vice versa. That’s crazy. Never seen this in my life.

    • @omegaplumbing
      @omegaplumbing 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Interesting we run it next to each other all the time. The insulation, insulates the hot. Our code is the UPC and its modified for California. There is no minimum distance, our cold is already warm because it comes from the aqueduct so not much transfer there, and since our water is warm overall and we have super low humidity our pipes don't sweat like other states. Well now you've seen it in your life tell your friends! BTW Where is that code page and number in your code book of canada?

    • @omegaplumbing
      @omegaplumbing 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You got me thinking and I did the math with AI the effect of this set up would cause the cold water to increase 0.057 degrees. So basically negligible. Heres the math: Given these details, we can calculate the heat transfer and estimate the resulting temperature changes. Here's a breakdown of the information: - **R-value of insulation**: 3.3 (ft²·°F·h/Btu) - **Length of pipes**: 40 feet - **Flow rate**: 10 gallons per minute (GPM) - **Ambient temperature**: 70°F - **Distance between pipes**: 3/4 inch - **Hot water temperature**: 130°F - **Cold water temperature**: 60°F To estimate the temperature change, we'll first calculate the heat transfer rate and then use that to determine the temperature change in the water. **Step 1: Calculate Heat Transfer Rate** The rate of heat transfer through the insulation (Q) can be approximated using the formula: \[ Q = \frac{\Delta T}{R} \cdot \frac{A}{L} \] where: - \(\Delta T\) is the temperature difference between the hot water and the ambient temperature, - \(R\) is the thermal resistance of the insulation, - \(A\) is the surface area of the pipe, - \(L\) is the length of the pipe. The thermal resistance \(R\) of the insulation is given as 3.3 (ft²·°F·h/Btu). **Step 2: Calculate the Temperature Change in the Cold Pipe** To find the temperature change in the cold water pipe due to heat transfer from the hot water pipe, we would also consider the thermal resistance between the cold pipe and the hot pipe, considering the PEX material and the air gap between them. However, given the complexity and the provided data, we can focus on the main resistance provided by the insulation. Let's calculate the expected temperature change in the cold water pipe. **Step 3: Flow Rate Impact on Temperature Change** The temperature change in the cold water pipe can be estimated by the heat transfer rate (Q) and the specific heat capacity of water, factoring in the flow rate of 10 GPM. Let me do these calculations for you. The estimated temperature increase in the cold water pipe due to the heat transfer from the hot water pipe, given the provided insulation and other conditions, is approximately **0.057°F**. This minimal temperature change indicates that the insulation around the hot water pipe is effectively preventing significant heat transfer to the cold water pipe. Thus, the impact on the cold water temperature is negligible.

    When I got my fence done the company did something like this when it came to my gate. I complained and they subtracted the price of a gate from the price. Next day I went to Home Depot and did it myself and didn’t even have the proper tools. An extra hour would have made the world of difference guaranteed.

    I agree I’ve been a carpenter over 30 years if that’s the best the can do they need to look for a new occupation but you get what you pay for so if you picked the cheapest bid you’re some what responsible

      The cheapest bid shouldn’t be given excuses. I’ve been a builder for 22 years and I’ve been the cheapest price plenty of times and the most expensive price-that doesn’t give me the excuse to lower my standards-full responsibility of the terrible tradesman who built this fence. I feel terrible for the person expecting what he was promised-I’d be surprised if the carpenter pre warned him he was going to do this ✌️
