43rd Field Artillery Battalion Supports the 8th Infantry Division; Hürtgenwald, November 17, 1944
A 105mm Howitzer crew of the 43rd Field Artillery Battalion fires in support of the 8th Infantry Division in the Hürtgenwald (Hürtgen Forest) vicinity. This footage is dated November 17, 1944, 80 years ago today as of the date this video is posted.
The 43th Field Artillery Battalion was an organic FA Battalion, attached to the 8th Infantry Division from 1941 to 1957. The original shot card misidentifies the FA Bn as the 48th, but the 48th was in the Pacific with the 7th Infantry Division at this time.

MUD! 2nd Armored Division in The Netherlands and Belgium; September 1944
มุมมอง 740หลายเดือนก่อน
This sequence was entitled "MUD" according to the original shot card. This footage highlights that ever-present companion and obstacle of the soldier: mud. It was shot over the September 24-26, 1944 in Holland and Belgium. I believe that all of the soldiers and vehicles are from the 2nd Armored Division. The truck at the beginning is from the 67th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Division. Source:...

A quick clip of 3rd Armored Division moving through Nordrhein-Westfalen / North Rhine-Westphalia in the vicinity of Stolberg, Germany. There is a sign indicating Stolberg is 8km away. This mean that this footage could be taken on the outskirts of Aachen or possibly Roetgen. If you know exactly where this was filmed, please let me know in the comments below. Civil Affairs - designated G-5 - soldiers begin their work in the newly liberated French city of Metz. The Military Government was in charge of establishing pro-Allied officials in local government offices, securing the existing infrastructure of liberated cities - or occupied, in the case of Germany, and helping locals rebuild after the exit of German authorities. 91st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron on the Drive to Rome; May 28, 1944
มุมมอง 6712 หลายเดือนก่อน
This footage was filmed in late May 1944, as elements of the US Fifth Army were breaking out of the Anzio Beachhead and pushing toward Rome. Rome would be liberated on June 4, 1944, a few days after this footage was filmed. The tanks in the footage likely belong to the 1st Armored Division (please correct me if I am wrong in the comments), and could be part of the 88th Infantry Division or Task...

So these were the guys who were going to take over the world, huh? "A Thousand Year Reich'' the Nazis said. And they came up 998 years short and broke every bookies heart.
Did that many Germans speak English back then or did more Americans speak German ? Not all of these GI's chatting with the German soldiers were ' Ritchie Boys ' , a lot of German - Americans still spoke a little ' kuche - Deutsch ' back in the 1940s .
My grandfather was Lt Col John W. Dandridge of the 30th in 1944..
Wonderful footage thank you
I believe Julich was an SS training area and they put up a fight. It would explain why everything looks totally blasted to bits.
Geez a lot of the GI's were still wearing the 41 field windbreaker field jackets .It seems like a lot of this ETO late war footage just saw the light of day in the last 5 years . Is there a story behind that ?
Thanks for these impressive vids. I am happy that 80 years after this horrible fights former enemies became friends and live in freedom.
Interesting. A German captured M8 Greyhound.
Sherman has cement on the front glaces plate.
My father was with Company "A" 43rd Tank Battalion 12th Armored Division, he drove an M-4 Sherman tank that was equipped with a 76mm main gun. The stuck Jeep at the beginning of the film was from "HQ" 43d Tank Battalion from the bumper markings.
I bet he was a little more comfortable in the 76mm Sherman then the 75mm Sherman.
@@0159ralph The 76mm must have been a souped-up model, they were more desired.
A real chicken wire helmet going to the trash……the horror!!
How come my Mauser has scratches and dinged up wood?
Those were the lucky Germans that surrendered and the spent the rest of the war as a POW in the states.
What do you all think is the means used for the camouflage on the uniforms? Paint?
My. Late father in law ran an Ordnance Co in the UK 1944-45 to clean and refurbish weapons and equipment from the battlefield including major end items
in 1944 Ernie Pyle devoted one of his columns to an American unit that refurbished broken equipment and got it back to the front.
December 1944...you know the war is won. But you still have to fight. What a soul sucking experience.
Panzerfaust and Sturmgewehr
A lot of canteens. Why throw away your canteen?
From dead soldiers…..
They are collecting from dead bodies what it can be used again
3AD Spearhead & 104ID Timberwolves
In case you were wondering, cameraman 'R. Meye'r of the '166th Sig Photo Co,' was Russ Meyer, later known for making controversial sexploitation films in the 1960-70s ....
Rest in peace to that unknown American soldier.
Notice the German half track in the US column.
Thank you for your channel. I had been looking for a channel that showed American military personnel in WW2. It’s very dear to me because my father served in Italy during the war.
What a shame! Soviet superior officer receive american medal! For what?
The time period in the title is September 20-22, but the scenes at the beginning of the video are from September 17, showing the landing of the 101st Division.
My grandpa is somewhere in here sgt. August c schulz pattons 2nd armored
Beautiful!!!! Thanks
My father, Pfc Alvin C. McDaniels was in the 2nd Infantry Division, 23rd Regiment.
My dad, James c jones, was a staff sergeant, squad leader with i company, 318th Infantry, 80th division. He was wounded for the 3rd time on March 30th, 1945 in his left hip and was in the hospital for 6 months.

It is Alsdorf in Rhineland-Palatinate

One of the few black soldiers that I have seen on any World War II footage.
Units of the " Panzer Lehr Division" were amongst them.
Ha ha. Die Gotterdammerung came down on him.

Two of my friends brought me to St Malo we were diving in the area Steven Leveuqe and Bruno Gaultier French Foreign Legion they are from Fremel 😊
Skorzeny was a badass
Looks like the POWs like C-rations as much as American soldiers do.
Săracii 😢😢😢 cei care au cazut pe mină CCCP😢😢😢 Mulți NU S-AU MAI ÎNTORS ACASĂ 😢😢😢
All the WWII soldiers, including my Dad and my wife's Dad, are all passed on to be with their brothers and sisters in the loving arms of Jesus. Their service needs to be appreciated by this generation. Some served in the Korean War and they need to be honored as well.
My father was a tank driver in the 2nd Armored Div. He received 4 Bronze Stars for 4 different campaigns. Enjoyed the video. Thanks
Sadly General Rose would be killed in combat some two week after this. Rose was among a handful of US Army generals killed in action in WW2.
Mark Felton has done a video on the circumstances surrounding MG Rose’s death…
