Making soap is so much fun. Recipes are expressed as percentage so that you can make it any size you want. First you will need to use a lye calculator/soap making calculator. I used the paid version of Soap Maker 3. They also have a free version. There are also many more online calculators. You will enter the size of your soap mold, then enter in oils/butters with percents and you will get the amounts to use. You can use micas, ultramarine color, and natural colors such as plants and clays to color soap. Please check with the supplier to make sure the color is ok to use in cold process soap.

The essential oil blends as expressed in percentages because the amount depends on the amount of oils used for your mold.

A lot of soap makers use a percentage for determining the amount of water to use. I find it easier to use a ratio. Most of the time I use a ratio of 1:1.7. This means that I take the lye amount and times it by 1.7 to get the water (liquid) amount. Sometimes I will use a ratio of 1:2. This means the water amount is twice the lye amount. I use SoapMaker for my lye (soap making) calculator. Not only is it a lye calculator it also keeps track of my supplies, recipes and so much more. SoapMaker is not free, but the one-time price was more then worth it. There are many free lye calculators available in English, but I am not sure about French. I guess if you do an internet search you will find one. Each of the calculators come with instructions on how to use.

Thank you! If understand the process and safeguards needed for handling lye, then this soap is no different. The worst that can happen is the design does not look good. It still will be useable soap! There are many TH-cam videos that show the basics of soap making.

I've made tons of soap just not on that design level. At some point I believe it transcends soapmaking a d goes into art.

Try it. I have tried many designs and some of them do not turn out as I had in my mind! But that is ok, because these bars are used in our house and by family and friends. Start with a simple design. One of my next videos will be a simple swirl. The video will be published in about 2 weeks.

I love re-purposing containers. The superfat/ lye discount is 4%. For the water and lye amounts I use a ratio, usually 1.7. This means the water amount is 1.7 times the lye amount. @SEAandCLEANsoap thank u so much. My batter gets too thick to pour, and I'm no sure if I should add more oils or what. Part of learning.

To achieve fluid soap when pouring the most important thing is not to use the stick blender too much. Stop blending when it is just mixed. Then divide and color. Then if needed you to stick blend more. This is something that I am always working on! There are many other reasons. Such as your water amount is incorrect, the recipe does not have the correct amount of unsaturated oils, temperature of oils and lye and the scent you use.
