The look in jack's eyes when tom tells him about the bairn.
5:10 JP Justice of the Peace - a magistrate
Yes a slip of the tongue! JP not GP
when the how comes in man.
Great stuff ..very fond memories of watching When The Boat Comes In back in the day as a child with my family here in Dublin
Season 2 was easily my favourite.
A fantastic episode .I never could stand Billy .An arse of the upmost hole .
The opposite of Jack in many ways
I remember the theme song of this show but I was too young to remember anything else.
watch it now
I don't think I will get anyone that famous on my channel - well done!
It was interesting as the show progressed how Jack's chat-up line began to lose its power and descend into a cliché...much as Jack's way with women did.
brilliant acting brilliant
Jack was more angry when Tom told him about dolly and their baby than them being together I don't remember if she said she was barron or not?
After the miscarriage the doctor said she would never have children
Jack should've stayed with Jessie I think he regretted that he cheated.
at least they got together in real life
I thought Jessie's husband Ashton was a bit stuck up for a school headmaster.
Love your podcast.
thank you
Billy seaton was a selfish man really owing over a thousand pounds to his dad Bill and mam Bella im sure he owed Tom aswell?
yes all 3 of them
But he was very noble as well helping people for nothing
I love this series but the last series were jack ford get killed l wish he came out of world war 2 alive and super rich
@@simonlunt353 agreed but it wasn't the same without Matt Headly IMO
my least favourite series! I will speak about it in the future
What a fantastic series
Such a shame when Toms wife Mary died fromTB not so treatable then as today.
I adored this series ,especially series 1 and 2,would it be possible to interview james bolam ,i know he is very old and a private man ,but would be an honour ,thanx for the appriciation of this brilliantly written drama when the beeb were good
Thank you! No problem I love the show!! I have asked 🤣more than once! As you say I think James is a private person
The interview with his wife was fab, he was asked on camera, said no such a shame because they are so loved still❤
@@kirstygalbraith1732 Thank you! Yes but I respect his privacy It was great speaking with Susan
Loved the look on les mallows face when jack told him he knew about his sister.
Yes it was brilliant! He tried to fight dirty with Jack 🤣and look what happened!
Thanks for the video! Billy Seaton's hard-headed attitude to socialism was an accident waiting to happen. Like the GP in this episode, Billy seems to have ended-up living a comfortable existence in London, eventually. However, his unwavering commitment to the cause led to serious trouble for Jack..........
Bring Jack back to life. It ended to early. Best series ever Bony Lass.
A dark ending for jack ford being killed whilst gun running I think in Spain.
Yes but not this episode!
@@WhenTheBoatComesIn1976 the last episode of series 4
great podcast bonnie lad. cant find the torrent
👍
…if you watch that series you realise the tories and rich have not changed one bit…
"You bloody ghoul..."
So pleased to find your podcast .. I've just come across series 3 on drama and I was delighted.
I loved this series when it was on TV many years ago but I can't remember what happens in the first two series so I was delighted to find your podcast talking about all the episodes. I'm enjoying listening.. Thanks for posting
Thank you
Hilarious 😂
Excellent acting and beautifully paced scene. A work of art
I always thought his final words should have been "What am I doing here Sergeant? I should be at the Savoy"
It was The Saville not The Savoy
Just got the box set looking forward to watching it
Sad Tom and Billy both passed away in real life I think not long after.
Sadly many of the actors from When The Boat Comes In have passed away The saddest has to be John Nightingale who played Tom, he died from cancer at only 37
It was the best thing on tvhreat cast and it hasn't aged
Why did Jessie say what she did?
because Jack wasn't just saving the widows furniture, he was after the fitters union job
Hi there...huge "Boat" fan. If you like this series did you ever watch "The Duchess of Duke Street"? Another brilliant BBC period drama from the 70's, actually based (looseley!) on the real life of Edwardian cook-to-the-stars Rosa Lewis and her rags-to-riches rise through the ranks of society from parlour maid to Edward VIII's favourite chef. Highly recommended! Thanks for this series by the way - about time someone did it! Thanks again!
are there any torrents of them all?
No I haven't seen that one
Thats how to be a gentleman. Suave and no foul or crude language. When you watch this you realise just how far we have fallen.
So so true
Hi anyone interested series 1-4 are on a youtube channel called Time To Relax! Jack Ford.....What a guy!
cant find it
Does anyone know where the series was filmed?
James Bolam in his prime. Finest acting on television in that era.
"And you shall have a little fishy on a little dishey" I rember this from the intro song- weird an ear worm from the past.
Susan Jameson was his real wife. I think this is the best thing the bbc ever did. I have it on DVD the whole 4 series.
This is when the bbc made Amazing programs instead of the crap they make now.
Crap like Peaky Blinders?
Lovely - I'm a WTBCI fanatic too. I love all the main characters, the Seatons are wonderful - I wonder why Bill and Bella weren't in the last series. Matt Headley was amazing - so decent and also so complex and therefore so interesting - I always thought the fight between him and Jack in series 3 was a terrible mistake. I love the way that the only person who 'defeated' Jack - over Jessie of course, by both marrying and keeping her - was the ostensibly feeble but really tough as they come Arthur Ashton. I'm throwing in random thoughts now. The Duke - sharp as a nail in the guise of an old eccentric - was riveting, as was the brutal yet somehow comedic Colefax (both actors!) There's also how perceptive Bill was - he understood Jack better than anyone, as indicated in the wonderful scene just before his back operation in Series 3 when he got to the root of everything - 'You're a damn fool you know. You should have married our Jessie', a remark so true it hit Jack for six. I think Jack has to be my favourite character of all, and I can't separate Series 2 and 3 as my favourite series (despite the Jack/Matt fight). There were some wonderful episodes in the other series of course, I loved the Series 4 episode about fascists and antisemitism for example. I hope to write some more!
One of the best shows ever made!
I just did an episode on this show, I feel it is desperately under-rated and surely the best thing James Bolam ever did. You chose an absolutely classic clip here - thank you.
I remember seeing Susan Jameson in an episode of UFO there was a lot of actors of which apperared in that programme
Fantastic,gritty series,one of my favourite TV dramas👏🏻
Classic.
