    I walked into this place about 7 years ago looking for a cassette player and if I recall, the owner gave me a really nice used Nakamichi cassette player for $100. I was also welcomed to one of the rooms for a listening session. I haven't been back since but really cool to see the same hospitality is there today specially now that I'm getting back into HiFi stuff!

It is huge step up from anything I have heard. I will completely move all of my equipment from Boulder to CH. If you are ready to move to your final lifetime system this is the system!!! These are great tips for getting into a superb stereo without "breaking the bank." I appreciate your comments about the Vandersteen 1Ci+ "disappearing." To clarify, this is very challenging to accomplish, and it is a combination of a speaker design that transitions between its drivers without a hiccup that draws attention back to the speaker, a great combination of electronics, cables, stands, and the essential dealer set up in your room. If any of these are off, it suspends the musician performing in the venue to realizing you are in your living room with a stereo system. For nearly 50 years now, the aesthetics of the introductory Vandersteen products have allowed us to reach sonic performance way above the price point and have a cost-effective finish that can be restored to like-new aesthetics for little cost. The caps come in a wide variety of veneer finishes as well. Luckily for Vandersteen, the "vintage" look is in again!

      Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience, but hundreds of happy HiFi Buys + Rega customers would attest to it not being “junk”. That being said, there are a lot of great options in this price point these days. We’ve certainly had a handful of issues over the years, and that is why shopping at a local shop is so important if you’re lucky enough to have someone nearby. We set up and check the performance of every turntable we sell before they go home and are here to help if you ever have trouble down the road 😁

    • @HiFiBuys
      @HiFiBuys 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I am sorry that you had such a bad experience with your RP1, but you can absolutely adjust cartridge alignment (though that is almost never necessary), tracking force, and VTA (with shims) on Rega turntables, so I'm not sure what you mean. The only meaningful adjustment that isn't available on the current Planar 1 is the anti-skating force, but on every other Rega arm, that too is adjustable. The Rega Carbon that comes on a Planar 1 does have a replaceable stylus and if you purchased an RP1 prior to the Carbon, while it didn't have a replaceable stylus, the arm at that time did offer anti-skating adjustment 🤷 The other Rega cartridges are all built intentionally as one piece because it sounds better than a replaceable stylus, and they offer a discount on a replacement when trading in a worn cartridge that brings the cost of a new cartridge down to the same price as competitors' replacement styli.

    I am curious as to the wow and Flutter for the Rega Planar 1 turntable I could not find it but am interested to to know how much lower is it compared to the Technics 1200 GR2 Wow and Flutter 0.025 I have one an I am concerned about how poorly the direct drive performs because it is not a belt drive. Thank You

    • @HiFiBuys
      @HiFiBuys 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'll assume that you aren't being sarcastic here, but I hope that my comments about choosing a turntable in the ~$500 price point didn't cause you to start doubting the performance of your $2,200 turntable. Most tests that I have seen online for the Planar 1 put it in the 0.15-0.20 range for wow which in general is lower than most humans can perceive. Direct-drive tables typically measure much better for wow and flutter in my understanding, but the design presents other obstacles that must be overcome. Like everything in hifi, design of a product is a series of compromises, and there are great-sounding products in all categories, it comes down to what you personally are sensitive to or prefer. Happy listening!

    • @middleearthltd
      @middleearthltd 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@HiFiBuys Thank you for that. I know that the question sounded sarcastic but I seriously wanted to know and I could not find the answer and I have decent google-fu. I have watched a couple few video reviews and the 1200 GR2 is apparently crap compared to the 1200 G. I run a good MM cartridge as a good MC costs a bundle and makes me question trying to go up the food chain and I keep thinking why not go down the food chain price-wise as I am interested in and like vinyl but not enthusiastic enough to sink 10k plus into a record player and cartridge. So, long story short I am genuinely interested. Thank you for your response.

    • @HiFiBuys
      @HiFiBuys 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Looks like the 1200G is about twice the price of your table so I certainly hope it would perform better. I don’t have a ton of experience with the new Technics turntables as we don’t carry them, but if you’re enjoying the sound of your records then you’re doing something right 😁 We’ve learned that there’s never a point where there’s no way to improve your system, even at the crazy high end, so enjoy what you have now and look forward to possible upgrades down the road 🔊

    This playlist would turn me off music for ever......! I can't see any point in evaluating system components or speakers with music that isn't in the core of my own listening pleasure. Evaluating a potential purchase with anything else is crackers. I would begin with my worst sounding beloved recordings and see what the speakers can do in terms of mitigating or resolving the smearing and compression therein. Then I would know what I need to know.

    Aw, little sweetheart, the 90s, "not recorded too well". I grew up with music that was REALLY not well recorded. Some was recorded in one take in a studio with the band and the orchestra together, including the drums, some recorded on 4-track (or even 2-track) tape, much of it had really poor bass, some was in mono. (Not that it mattered when usually played on a valve-driven record player with a crystal pickup in mono through a 4" speaker.) The Kinks played guitar through a broken speaker to get the distortion, rather than a digital effect. I remember Pink Floyd Piper at the Gates of Dawn album being one of the best, Sergeant Pepper was a revelation, so was Led Zeppelin II. Another album I had showcased the pleasure and reproductive quality of 33rpm stereo... And then Dark Side of the Moon, we sat with a bottle of cider each and listened to each side all the way through.

    Canadian speaker brands like PSB and Paradigm offer very good entry level speaker series! From Paradigm, the Monitor (SE) series have been great for years now, but if you want something better (build quality, sound AND look), you should get the Premier series! AND they are made in CANADA too!

    I disagree 100% with your approach and advice. You are telling people to listen to "hi-fi music" because of a certain aspect of a recording. I have been to numerous shows and shops and had to suffer through the blandest shit that no one really listens to, just to hear a few seconds of a bell, a guitar solo or something that shows off a certain feature of the system. If I'm at a show now, I move straight past these setups. If your system can't play a Tool song, a classic Beatles track or a beatufull female voice like Tori Amos, it's entirely irrelevant. You would be surprised how many potential buyers you miss out on with this snobbish attitude, you're essentially saying: Don't listen to the music you like, listen to this soundtrack from a movie because the sound scape is so wide, now buy stuff from me."

    • @HiFiBuys
      @HiFiBuys 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @kimbye1 I'm sorry that you got this feeling from the video, but I really don't think your comment, especially the last sentence, is fair at all. Not once in this video did I tell anyone to listen to only these 10 songs or even to buy anything from us. These songs were chosen by a manufacturer to demonstrate specific aspects of their speakers and the system during an event at our store, and we had many requests after the event for a copy of the playlist because it wasn't full of music that most people were already familiar with. We thought it would be great to share it publicly, but as I've learned on social media, you can't please everyone. I personally love Tool, The Beatles, and Tori Amos too, and they get played all the time here in the store (Chocolate Chip Trip in particular gets played almost daily and is an incredible track), but I think most people are already familiar with those artists and sharing a playlist including them seems less compelling. Perhaps you'd enjoy our much longer, daily playlist of music that we love that you can find at hifibuys.com/jams, but at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that you love your system and the music that it connects you to.

    • @kimbye1
      @kimbye1 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@HiFiBuys Glad to hear you play a big range of music. I think people hearing music they know and love is the most important aspect. I used to be very into hi-fi and feeling alienated or not respected as a customer is something I have never felt in another buying experience outside hi-fi. People playing "golden tracks" is a very common thing and a certain part of the hi-fi establishment go from enjoying music to listening to certain details that feature the low end, mid range or spaciousness of their system. Knowing how music is recorded and that the way the chain is presented as a perfect source that is akin to a live experience is such a big mistake. Enjoy music for what it is, warts and all. Spiral out 🤘

    • @HiFiBuys
      @HiFiBuys 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @kimbye1 We totally recommend (and insist) that everyone listen to music they love before making any purchasing decisions. That's the only way to know for sure that you'll love it! That being said (and as I mentioned in the video) a lot of the music that I love is not recorded very well, so it can hinder my ability to evaluate a system's set up or true capabilities. I still love and listen to it all despite the less-than-stellar recording, I just use other tracks (ones that I am very familiar with as well, but not usually something that I would listen to for fun) to test and set up systems. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you enjoy listening and that your stereo helps you to enjoy it as much as possible!

    GM from Toronto ☕️ Off the thousands of songs that I have on various playlists..I keep a selected 10 that I use as reference …some old some new ,some complex and some stripped down.

      @sockhopsinger We’ve got more playlists coming, including some featuring our headphone partners! While this playlist is focused on the Orion loudspeakers because it came from our event with them, it all translates to headphones as well! A good headphone system should highlight all the same great examples of sound staging and bass response etc.

      Echoing what @HiFiBuys said. Any great speaker playlist will make for a great headphone playlist. Car stereo playlist as well IMO 😉

      The cool thing about HFB is that there are lots of other systems to hear that playlist on, including one that may possibly fit your budget. Or use the tunes to evaluate a friend's system or yours (don't be too critical of your friend's though). 🤐 😁 And HFB is happy to give the experience of the system in their Beatles room to listeners who stop in (even if it is fiscally out of reach) because they enjoy sharing the experience of music played at a level of fidelity that is inspirational.

    Agree with you with one caveat...my experience with software and audio has to do with a streamer I acquired a few yrs back...hi end streamer and the hdwe is great...problem has been the sftwe...its buggy and becomes frustrating because when the sftwe doesn't work 100% seamlessly with the hdwe the unit is non operational...not a pleasant experience.

      Totally agree! Software can make or break the experience. Thankfully, CH Precision is really top-class when it comes to both hardware and software and the result is an absolutely delightful user experience to go along with world-class performance.

    i hate small remotes :D got an argon audio sa 1 comes with the tiniest remote i use for outdoor amp as its easy to grab and take outside, but already lost the remote just make sure its in the shadow cause if sunlight hit the optical in it tends to switch to that input cause it think it gets connected lol

    • @HiFiBuys
      @HiFiBuys 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Usually I agree and prefer a larger remote, but these are heavy enough that I don't think they're a problem. Direct sunlight will make most IR sensors act crazy, lots of infrared wavelengths flooding the sensor, but we usually just see inconsistent control behaviors, actually having commands trigger from sunlight is super unlucky!

    As much as I love my Parasound 2125v2 for my GoldenEar BRX, I've upgraded to the NAD C298 (similar to NAD M23). My Parasound moved to powering the surround L/R speakers in a mixed use music/movies 7.4.4 setup and movies sound better. My requirements (<50 lbs and <16 in deep, trigger input/output, gain adjustment, RCA loopout for subwoofer). It's 2024, and I'm shocked at how many amps don't have at least a trigger input, much less a gain adjustment. My video th-cam.com/video/ncwCopnHJqA/w-d-xo.html Apple Music lossless

    We'll see if they we be in business 10yrs from now? Now how many products in audio will still be around in 20yrs ? McIntosh! Not Hagle , Shitt , or any of these so called... New ? Companies...

    • @HiFiBuys
      @HiFiBuys 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’m happy that you enjoy your McIntosh equipment, but wishing that other companies will fail is a bad look and detrimental to the HiFi community as a whole. CH Precision just celebrated their 10th anniversary and we don’t see any reason why they won’t continue to manufacture stellar HiFi components for many years to come. If you’re looking for McIntosh-related content, I’m sure there’s plenty available on other channels.

      I have been a rep in this business aproaching 40 years now. I am invested and in my thoughtful mooments have often wondered this very thing. Then I learned something that makes it all make sense, "passion, true passion, never dies." From the designer, to the fabricator, to the dealer, to the end user, there is a line of passion that is hard to quench. Bring on the next great recording please!

If YOU decide you want to have this in your life then this team will make it perfectly fitted to you. If Vandersteen and HRS are part of that process, then you will see me with a knowing smile that you have also joined me in my audio journey. Bravo. Encore!

    "Welcoming" is the word that describes the feeling I get walking into HiFi Buys. Regardless of where you are in your audio journey, HFB will meet you there. They can pull up any music selection so you can listen to speakers and systems with your chosen tunes and see how high fidelity further elevates the feeling of emotion that your favorite music and soundtracks bring you.

    When you want to build a world class Product, why not Active incl Room & Frequency Correction to have full controll about everything ? No passive Speaker, as much as they are engineered, has the advantages of an Active solution where every amp controls his own driver without an crossover in between

    • @HiFiBuys
      @HiFiBuys หลายเดือนก่อน

      We have yet to hear an active/DSP-controlled speaker system that even comes close to the experience of a system built around a pair of Rockport Technologies speakers, but we'd certainly be intrigued to hear if you have experience with a product that does what you say at this level. Also, there are still crossovers in active speakers, they are just often "in front" of the amplifiers rather than after in the signal chain, but still present the same challenges as in a passive loudspeaker.

      While Rockport doesn't believe bi-amping is necessary, there is a bi-amp + jumper option for the Orion and Lyra. I certainly would be curious as to the difference a meaty stereo amp bi-amped for each speaker would make!
