Solo McLaughlin

เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 20 พ.ค. 2013
I love to play board games but have a hard time finding someone to join me. So, I'm always on the look out for fun games that can be played solo. Of course, every now and then I manages to coerce a family member to the table. But mostly, it's just me, a deck of cards, and some capricious dice.

This was great - please make more Descent content!❤
Ohhh, I wouldn't mind returning to Descent!
So nice to see you're still making great videos after all these years!!! 🙂
Time flies when you are playing a good game I guess. :)
Kate is your alpha gamer for sure! It may be Sister Mary's story but Kate has decided to take the spotlight lol
Seriously! She clearly has something to prove.
Just wanted to say, watched this like 7 years ago and picked up a copy for myself, first Oniverse game I played and I got addicted. I've spent countless hours with them since, my favorite being Castellion. Thanks for the great video!
So happy you jumped into the Onirim Universe! I just love the whole series of games. I still have one or two I'm missing but I'm sure I'll track them down eventually.
The only good thing about that gate is it's a triangle like the nasty green monster Mary had to evade. If she could jump to that one with her spell, it might be the right move. Kate could either delay a turn or just evade big ugly.
Years late to the party but FINALLY charted my first successful play. Thank you for "being with me in spirit!" 😊👍
It's looking good. You know something else that is good for spooky holidays (even though it's passed) Cultist Simulator.......just saying :)
Form my own rival cult perhaps? Show these noobs how it's done. Heeheehee
I’ve been enjoying this series. Hope you’re doing well!
I am so glad I brought this back to the table. It's still, after all these years, one of my favorites! Glad you are enjoying it too.
I’m still having difficulty understanding the game, but this is the best Friday play through I’ve watched so far.
Your rolling is on fire this game! Ready to see that shotgun action
Makes up for that one turn where I whiffed every check. But the dice Gods giveth and the dice Gods taketh away....
I am loving this play through of one of my all-time favorite games!
It's always nice to see the team finally working together lol
Took 'em long enough!!
I love that you are like "They need to pull together" after Kate didn't do the right thing and left Sister Mary to struggle. It makes for great struggle in the game to watch but you are funny thinking you aren't going to take the gamble every time :)
I know better, and yet.....
I always love how the stories come from the game. Clearly, Kate is only in the group to prove that Sister Mary's faith could be trumped by her science which is why she's not helping her out. Also, the High Priest met her at the door to the Historical Society and threw her out into the street because he could feel her energy which would ruin his gate he just got opened. Poor Joe needs to figure out who made a voodoo doll of him or cursed him with such bad luck. Maybe it was just getting sprayed with Monster Bait by some secret cultist. Ashcan would have problems too except Duke is there to prevent them. And it seems to be how the game goes. Every single playthrough I watch, the few magic focused characters get the magical immunity monsters while the gunned out ones get the physical immunity monsters.
Amen brother!!
I started watching your channel nearly a decade ago to help me decompress before bed and I found not only a love of board gaming (I even back on kickstarter now 😂), but I found my partner through our shared love of board gaming. I always look forward to your next video (no matter how long it takes 😂) and I want to say thank you because you don't know me and I don't know you, but your love of board gaming had this weird amazing effect on my life that I will cherish. Also, I wonder if you ever played the solo series Final Girl? A reworked Hostage Negotiator with resource management and a little die manipulation thrown in as you try to take down a killer while saving victims.
I love that games can bring strangers together. That is a kind of magic in my book. I, too, doze off to the sound to game play throughs. lol I had Hostage Negotiator but passed it on because I didn't like the theme. I have heard that Final Girl is a much better game. I may have to add it to my wish list!!
no part 5? that's annoying....
There isn't a part 5, but there is a finale!
Pretty sure you always get 1 dice even if modifiers take you to 0. And I think you're combining Physical Immunity and Resistance. Resistance is what you described with Joe and the shotgun with the double damage total required if you use physical items. Immunity means you can't even use any physical items to attack it, which means Joe can't fight it right now as he has no spells. And the fact that you really can't be in the streets means fighting them is going to be tough. Not sure if turning off the overhead autofocus would help or hurt, but it isn't a fan of the game for whatever reason. The other camera seems to be doing just fine so it's probably the distance. Now, someone give poor Mary some clues so she can seal the gate.
What you say about number of dice rolled is true for Eldritch horror, but not for Arkham Horror 2nd Edition. Albeit even if the number is zero or negative you can still spend clues to get a roll.
Physical Immunity only nullifies Physical weapons. You can always roll your fight stat. Physical Resistance would halve the bonus from a Physical Weapon, but your Base Fight stat would remain unchanged and could still be used. Also the +1 Skill cards always apply, it's not just a bonus when you use a clue. It's great to see more Arkham Horror 2nd edition content out there, Keep it up!
Yes! You can always spend a clue to get a die even if the modifiers take you to 0. I will make sure I clarify that next time. Thanks for reminder!
Good point! I always think that the basic fight stat is physical since I envision the investigator walking up and bopping the monster on the nose. But, as you note, the immunity/resistance only applies to the bonus added by weapons and spells. Ah Arkham Horror, so many little rules. Who doesn't love it?!?!
@@SoloMcLaughlin I know what you mean, I try to think of the Basic Fight as like an improvisational fight rating. How the character uses the environment to their advantage. Think like the Mom in Gremlins fighting them in the kitchen, by shutting them in microwaves, and turning on food processors, or any Jackie Chan fight scene. Like maybe Joe trapped the Formless Spawn in a box (using a stick with some string tied to it, and cat food as bait), then locked the box and threw it off the docks into the Miskatonic River. No physical attack required, and the monster is dealt with!
poor Sister Mary. She risked it for the biscuit and those biscuits turned out to be hard and moldy. lol
She is definitely on her own little side quest this game!
I would have gone with Kate too. In this case, I think Science was the better choice. . .
I'm not usually one for violence, but with the way you've been rolling, I would like to see the shotgun do some double damage to that elder thing!
I am sooo tempted to send him out guns blazing...
Great turn Chrissie! 😊 Ithaqua is beginning to feel the heat! ✊
No one messes with Sister Mary's flock!
Great first turn and lovely story telling as always.
The dice were in our favor for sure!
Coming out of the gate strong on the dice rolls!
Now if we can just keep it up for like, what, 12 more turns? lol
So excited for this series. I’ve watched your previous AH play through a few times now and it one of the best. The storytelling is what really sets it apart from so many others.
I love finding the story in every game of AH!
Jump scare at the beginning, I'm an aracnophobe and I almost punched my laptop hahaha. Can't wait to watch your AH playthrough, one of my favorite games!
Don't worry. There are spiders in the next video. But there may be a few bats lurking at the end....
Great to see you back Chrissie, especially with AH. Love the storytelling. The Ladies of Arkham was fantastic and any new viewers who read this, I wholly recommend that playthrough. (Link above in the doobley doo)
I love AH, 2nd edition. Glad to see you posting videos again, Chrissie! Looking forward to this playthrough.
spooky
Woot! Excited to watch this unfold.
And now it feels like Halloween...... :)
So glad to see and hear you on TH-cam again 😊 I hope like many others here that you are doing well. For me your playthroughs are the very best ❤ (with those of Sir Thecos).
So the Percentile Die or D100 and how to use it?
In case no one has told you lately, you're fantastic. Thanks so much for talking about the game!
And gosh, I love seeing your reference tabbed book.
Aw shucks, making me blush here! <3
It's always a good day when one of your rare videos pops up on my notifications! Really hope to see more of them again, they are so soothing and nice. :)
Revving up for my next play thru. October always makes me itch to play a game for some reason.
Love this game and love your vids. Hope all is well with you
There she is! The other famous hands!
It is! Especially since I have a moment to get some games to the table this month!
Hey! I remember this. Hey! I remember you.
You were missed! Hope to see you again soon.
looks nice and compact for a solo RPG.
Where you been all my life baby!!? 😂
A new video, good! Any chance to play The Fantasy Trip by Steve jackson? thanks!
I don't own that one. Is it good?
@@SoloMcLaughlin I only know GURPs, which is my favorite RPG system. From what I could see on TH-cam it is a lite version of GURPs 1st edition (it was actually created before GURPs existed) aimed for both solo RPG or as tactical skirmish game, it uses 6-sided dice, hexagonal maps for both exploration and combat and has several published solo adventures, both official and "semi-official" like those from Darkcitygame. There are some channels that cover the basic rules for "Melee", which was the debut book focused on arena combat, watching the explanation of the rules already gives you an idea of what to expect.
Omg welcome back! ❤
Yay, I'm so glad you're back! It has been so long!!! 🎉
I recently got into this game-- the koikoi rules! We play on a computer bexause we dont have the cards but yours are beautiful!
I live in New Mexico and we absolutely get hail in the summer! 😂 It'll be 98°, clouds will roll in, it'll hail huge chunks of ice for 10 minutes straight, it'll all stop and the skies will be clear in 30 minutes. Then 2 hours later it'll rain for 5 minutes out of a blue sky with hardly a cloud. New Mexico weather is as moody as a bipolar woman with menopause! 🤣🤣🤣 Land of Enchantment!
Found your presence and voice delightful. Hope you continue to make videos. If not, thank you for this one.
I just bought this game after watching your playthrough! please make more I need to know how the goblins lamppost is doing!😄
One thing on moving with a Citizen figure, they move along with you, so when you were thinking of moving Gus, you could have moved all four spaces instead of halving your movement with him
Also, when Melvin encountered the Banshee at the high school, she should have rolled to attack him, rather than just insta-killing him. There's always a chance she could have rolled all blanks and he could have survived
On a further view, I realized you were planning the Scout's actions for moving Gus, not the Psychic's turn, my mistake!
This is best explanation on the points of hanafuda. As a child, I watched my mother, play and could match them but the points was never explained to me.
An update for those that are considering buying the cards. Unfortunately, Shirokiya has since been out of business due to COVID, and you’re likely to find an empty spot at Ala Moana. However, you can still buy some in Hawaii. Idk about the other islands, but at least in Oahu, I would suggest going to Longs Drugs, Don Quijote, and Marukai for the traditional deck or even the western style deck. Both decks are not as high quality like shown in the video, but they get the job done. If you want to buy the Hanafuda Hawaii Style cards or the Hanafuda Na Pu Hawaii cards made by Helen Nakano, there are some locations you can buy it from: 1. Don Quijote 2. Na Mea Hawaii 3. Nohea Gallery 4. Lyon Arboretum 5. Bishop Museum 6. Foster Botanical Garden There’s also H-Mart if you like to buy the Korean version of the deck. Otherwise, they’re readily available online, and can range between $10-$30 depending on the brand!
