👍👍
I have sr-16 nice for a sequencer. My favourite machine is korg electribe which I have in software now. Not forgetting the yamaha rm1x for patterns. The holy grails for me are the drumtrax and linn samples from Samples from Mars. Staples!
Electribe is sick . I sued to jam with a guy who used that as a full on controller
Exactly the video I was looking for. Too many videos are of people using just samples to make music on the MPC1
I’m doing more my friend .real time videos with hardware
Godflesh, made their legendary 'Street Cleaner' Album using the HR-16. When it borked on a US tour, they replaced it with the SR-16. As far as I know, the only upgrade to the machine since it's release in the 90's, is an upgrade from 16bit to 24bit. If only they would add a USB, I would grab one in a heartbeat! It's apparently the best selling drum machine ever.
the sr-16 sucks ..stop being so cheap...horrible
The SR16 actually has 4 separate outputs as. Well as the stereo outs! 😎
Yes it does .
I thought it had 4 outputs in total. Oh I'm thinking of the Boss DR660.
Cool but the problem with these drum machine especially the boss series it's the size of screen and no back light
Some of them are old . Sr 16 30 years old
I bought an Alesis SR-16 nearly 3 years ago, even though I already had an SR-16 sample pack since 2008 it's not quite the same as having the original hardware. I also have other drum machines including a Roland TR-505 which is great if you want that 8 bit sound.
Crave was my first synth. I own two Craves, two Edges, the Spice and the Grind. All of them are great! All 6 together is really fun!!!
I can only imagine that setup . And the price is still under most high end synths
@@longlostrobots8146 Agreed! Great video! :)
Here's the thing. Buying two Craves doubles the fun and gives you thicker two VCO sounds. I'm surprised I don't see more people buying multiple Craves for this reason. I think two Craves sound better ( -used together simultaneously generating a combined patch ) than a single Proton. Any opinions on this?
I’m seeing comments that some do have two craves .
I use to have the SR-16 i forgot what happened to it so many years ago but I think I'm going to buy it again
I fave mine away a while back and had to buy it again
Uli - Please stop stealing other people's ideas and selling them as your own.
That’s not at all what happened here. This thing isn’t a “clone” at all.
@@brawndothethirstmutilator9848 UB asked Roger to bless and Roger said - "I want nothing to do with the stolen blueprints and resulting product. Have you given any thought as to what the model number means?
No drum machine is worth a penny if you can't edit the sound of the drums. Without full subtractive control of each drum and at least 6 quality outputs all you have generic sounds like everyone else. They will not be in tune or fit your music, unless the only music you create is generic. I own an Electribe2 Blue which has hands on control of the drum sound, but only stereo outputs. I am thinking of just buying an analog synth with the snappiest envelopes and choices of noise and making all my own sounds for a sampler. Maybe layering the sounds with edited drum sounds from the Electribe. Creativity is the key.
Nice video. My favourite rhythm setup : the good old SR-16 for a steady drum pattern + a "randomized" DFAM percussions sequence on top. Great sounds for solid and groovy pattern .
I'm definitely getting the lm drum. I worked for alesis as an ear. I used to be responsible for making reports on every sample in that machine. Clicks, pops, white noise, peaks, balance, roundness, warmth, etc. At the time, the sr16 was a good little drum machine. I have the sr18, which is better. I listen to the sr16 now and to my ears it didn't really hold up or fall into the Classic category whereas the linn drum has been used on every italo disco and lots of new wave 80s songs. Its been on my want list for 30 years and to be able to buy a hardware clone of it for 400 is great. Its part nostalgia and part inspiration. I know the linn drum samples have been passed around for years and yes I have vst versions but I just have to try out the hardware on this lm drum as I can't afford a real one.
It’s a cool drum machine. I here you
Yup 👍 i was one of the vocal ones who expressed my opinion about the lack of a midi port. So as soon as they announced the M version, i pre-ordered this from #Sweetwater Hopefully it will cone in stock soon !! 🎉🎉🎉
With the midi it totally worth it
The factor to consider about the Linn drum is the process flow of the sound. Yes it is a sample player but the fact the recreate the 12 bit RAW process which effects the sound is key. Plus there is some live editing which can be tricky in DAW land. By the way Sonicware has a bunch of drum machines which play with sample bits, or sample process. I am thinking about the Liveen mega sysnthis, which is the SEGA sound system in a box
I hear you on that bit depth
FYI SR-18, th bigger brother has BASS and allot more sounds
Just do it, I have 11 drum machines, the LM drum will be #12
I hear ya but I got some big plans and recording music this year is one of them . I hope to share it all here on YT
I pre ordered the lm1 even though I have an sr18.
All good get what you want . Never had the Sr 18
@@longlostrobots8146 adds bass and more sounds
Sr 18 is even better.
I bought MPC One+ and was about to return it, seeing so many videos about "making beats" and it so looked like gear for people who can't play any instruments and for LoFi hip hop stuff. I make beats with my arms and legs on my drums, and just wanted to manipulate pieces I play on various instruments. You are the first one who may make me keep it.
I’m glade I can help . I use it as a controller and song making. Not beats . It helps me arrange come up with parts all while playing bass ,guitar and singing. I’m not a piano player so it helps with chords and progressions as well
@@longlostrobots8146 that's exactly what I wanted, but there's so few videos about it. Thanks again.
Why wouldn't you get the grind it does all that and more for same price
Maybe in the future I will . For me it’s about recording this year and TH-cam . See if we can make a new community here
you are right, the sr16 does sound really good in the mix. are you programming it or just running it as a module through midi?
Module through midi . Mapped out with MPC
@@longlostrobots8146 I plan on getting a MPC one some day
@@longlostrobots8146 how exactly do you wire that ?
I think what most persons are missing about the value of the Behringer LM drum is the ability to sample any drum unit and keep the flow of the original Linn drum.Since the introduction of computer drum programs and sample kits I think musicians have lost the ability to use 80s drum machines .I would recommend you examine the RX5 (Yamaha) R8 (Roland) R70 (Roland) and DDR 880 and imagine modernizing these with touch sensitive large pads ,a large screen ,sampling increased memory and AI generated auto fills to the programmed beats that you drum in. In the eighties and nineties people wrote entire songs on these machines using touch sensitive keyboards and midi and the patterns as loops. I can’t wait to get the LM Wonderful video and as you advise keep making music.
Thanks for the kind words . I’m older myself I use to use the boss DR 770 in full songs . What a time . And you are right with the sample and workflow with the LM drum machine. Just not for me . Yet 😃
Wait, how come you are impressed of Crave and not Deepmind12 or Model D? Those are real synths as well.
I have the deep mind 12 it is amazing. I just got the crave . It looks like I need to do some videos on all my gear . For the most part I don’t wan to get stuck in the synth world as I’m a singer songwriter and want the channel to be all around music production . Stay tuned my friend
Yeah, you need a drum synth. EDM kind of drums. And buy used gear! I got Crave for 100. Check out model cycles ;)
My next step is more videos but actually recording music this year
I've got the Crave and the Edge, not bothered about the Grind (I've got Brains in my eurorack), really want the Spice.
using a drum machine in 2025 is like taking the long route home after your friends have just shown your a quick route
If making music for you is all about getting things done as quick and efficiently as possible and just has to be done to achief a pre set goal I guess it. is
Remember I’m really just using the sounds
The long route home is a lot more scenic 👍
You should buy a drum machine and make beats. It's funnier than using a keyboard and a DAW ;-)
I'm just as fast on hardware as I am in a DAW. Plus, you would have it connected via midi so your workflow wouldn't be much different.
i got there rd-8 and rd-9 last year and had my gear lust on and aint even bothered to use it yet cant really be arse to work it out whats the point it easier doing it in the computer in reason and its just samples at the end of the day so its all just wasted money for something in metal box that taking up room when you can get the same result in the computer how ever if your talking mpc and s2400 thats a different story as it bring a different sound to the party
We all have to be comfortable with our own process.
You can’t be arsed to work out how to use them? It’s not rocket science, although it might be tricky I suppose if you’re used to doing stuff on a laptop. How does an MPC or S2400 bring a different sound? They play back what you sample into them. Same as the Behringer Linn.
The reason for using a drum machine over a computer is the live edit of sounds. The computer can do some depending on what setup is. BUT the RD8, RD9,, volca beat, and allot of the analog machines have no MIDI control of the knobs. So the crazy knob edits of sounds can not be done elsewise
the rd-8 is so much fun, i use it way more than the mpc live 2 i gave away.
@@WillieFourMilli wow
best crave tip I discovered; if your osc is set to pulse, then patch the "osc saw" out into the "ext audio" in jack, then you can use the blend knob to get richer tones. patching your other synths into the ext in will give you lots of options too, running through the crave's filter, which is super playable. It's a fun synth (though keep that JT around for pads, and the updates to it are worth exploring too). But, yeah, I use my crave way more than my JT; don't have the VS yet, but it's on my list, I liked the old Prophet VS it was based on. I also get a lot of mileage out of my behringer pro-1. Really, I've used every beheringer synth I've picked up on one recording or another!
I’m going for some patching this year . Thanks
The whole reason why I want one, it samples!
yes exactly its only samples so whats the point in having one just down load LM drum samples from the internet for free and load them in to your daw of choose dont bother wasting money trying to learn something thats not worth investing your time in the first place for something that can be easier to work out in the box life to short to feck around with time wasting things
@opticalman6417- I think you misunderstood the comment. ‘It samples’. Not ‘it’s samples’ I think it samples at 12 bit, so should sound really nice. Like an old Akai S950. This is a video about drum machines, not playing around on a laptop 👍
@opticalman6417 You don't understand the fact that it has stock drumsounds as well as the ability to sample, you can't go wrong for only $400 and it looks great as well...the value of it won't go down so you can still sell it in a few years.
And its 8 and 12 bit MPCs dont do that yeah you can Change the bit rate but it the same😮
Like a lot of synth demo's this is more a demo of the fx than the synth, with hi-end fx any synth sounds good!
Yeah but on the other hand all synths need FX and the cool thing is I’m not trying to push anything. I’m just her for the fun and love of music .
more Crave less 1222 BC gear..
Man I really respect your philosophy on buying stuff. People should ditch the consumer mindset and really start buying things that are suitable for their needs 🫡
Yes more music less gear . I’m guilty as well but it’s time to make more music
I've got this same Alesis SR-16, bought it some time in the 1990s and I guess my decision to stick with it was right. By the way, not so long ago I contacted the Alesis service about the battery inside and - after all this time - I got a quick answer. Your vid confirmed my decision, thanks for it.
No problem. I had one in the 2000’s and gave it away.
@@longlostrobots8146 🥴🤷♂
I love em all. They're all fun to play with. Crave is amazing, i have 2 of em, and when they were $199 i snagged 2 Neutrons as well. The amount if modular utility you get in Crave is unbeatable.
I’m over here just finding out how cool they are . You got two
check out the microfreak!
I know I love Arturia as well . The price is spot too
The BSII will fill your voids bro.
Bro ok I know don’t you tempt me .
Gear is all about look and feel... That is the cold truth. However, the small ones will rival many bigger units sound-wise.
The crave is perfect for 70s tangerine dream stuff, it's not for acid house. I used mine a lot when I had one, I sold it about 3 years ago
Hey Jesse, yeah they are all cool synths, but not every synth is for everyone. I have some gear I need to "clear out" myself, The JT4000 is def a keeper for me, been wanting the JP8000 sound for a long time. I have a few others that I barely use and just don't jive with - my Behringer ODYSSEY and a few others need to go I think... But yeah man sounds like you made the decision that works for you - check out my channel if you haven't and you would probably like Synth Samurai too, hardcore Behringer guy haha... My next synths is probably going to be the Korg MultiPoly we'll see... hahaha anyway I subbed so hopefully that'll help you out a bit and I will be back. BTW: SPICE, GRIND, EDGE, CRAVE
I bought a Crave when it was released, had a quick play but was not inspired. It sat on the shelf getting dusty for a year. Then I decided to make a one-synth tune just using the Crave and delay/reverb from my DAW. It was a fantastic way to realise the potential of the device. I did 3 tunes on it, it’s a great synth. I also got a Grind as soon as they were released, it’s a phenomenal synth. Here’s one of my Crave tunes. th-cam.com/video/JlrcORGv46Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=DNIQn18y3F56yHDN
Funny how that’s works sometimes
@ yes. I suffer from GAS 😆, meaning gear gets left on the shelf untouched, I entirely agree with what you said in your clip.
Use my Crave all the time with my Eurorack,,,sounds great.
I’m not going modular . 😆
@longlostrobots8146 its a stressfull rabbit hole..full of heartbreak and empty wallets..🤓
Let us know are you getting the LM drum or are you looking for something else . What are you favorite drum machines
I use a Novation Rhythm. It samples too and for all I see, I think the LM has nothing on it. Everything I'd use, it does better than the LM. It's not like the original Linn shines by its workflow. For the time it was good but nowadays not really.
Thinking about it Have a RD8, that bass drum sound is so good. Also the sr18, like the added bass guitar and the A B and filll Just got the 1984
Not hearing 303-like sounds. That’s why I went for the Volca Bass not the NuBass. Sounds more like a 303. I do like all the CV or are those patches? Also saw the TD3SR which mimics the 303 workflow.
Patches
If you want the 303 sound the td3 is a no-brainer. The sequencer is so much of the sound and it’s really cool once you get used to it.
@@hollywood4834 I would have to use the program though, that workflow is dreadful :) I got the Volca because it seemed easier to program.
It really shines , crave is one of my next synths , i was going for the deepmind, but cant afford it. Can i ask what are you using for drums and to make a sequence with the crave ? Thank you
Yeah I’m using an MPC for the sequence and the drum machine is the Alesis SR16 . I have a video up now that goes over it and compare it to the LM drum machine
Run that PRO VS thru the crave. It add a lot to the sound
Blowing my mind over here . I’m scared
@longlostrobots8146 you run the digital oscillators through the analog filter and you mix it in with the analog oscillators. 🔥 !! That's how I use the Crave a lot. I run the roland Gaia 2 wavetable through crave. No fx no filter from the Gaia and let crave do the processing.
That is a lot of reverb.
More reverb .
The bass station is fabulous
Got to find one used
