I buy one David Austin rose plant per year, in addition to various other exceptional old and new roses. Julia explains fragrance much better than the Austin catalog, in print ot online. Springtime, the Austin catalog arrives, then the uncertainty which to buy. My foremost goal is fragrance, second to that is old, romantic, Victorian cabbage form, and quartered form is the "cherry on top". Thank you for sharing. Ralph in Ohio. .......... Thank you very interesting about the milk… your the only one I’ve seen this mentioned. Also I feed top rose twice a year as instructed, but it just don’t seam enough for such large roses .. can I feed any additional products on top such as tommerite or a liquid shrub feed? Many thanks for the tips.

Wonderful video. But, what about the clove fragrance, so explicit in some of the rugosas? None of that in the Austin roses? Regarding the tea scent: try Lady Hillingdon and you just understand why tea roses are called tea roses: Graham Thomas describes it as if opening a fresh packet of tea.

Tea fragrance.....hmmmmm Musk fragrance just buy Tresor perfume by Lancome Tea fragrance is of China rose # Rosa Chinensis, Yua that l am growing in my garden 😊 smells like a rose soap to me. Thanks 👍 very informative just that TH-cam don't smell .... Hahaaaaa

What a wonderful tour of your plants and flowers. I'm trying to build a blue and yellow flower bed between my newly planted apple trees. I planted 3 Buttercup roses in the back as well as blue perennial phlox more in front. I was thinking about putting Vanessa Bell in front of the Buttercups. It was nice to know that well known gardens were using it in a similar way as I want to. Such a lovely nursery you have. I wish I was closer so I could visit it.

A bit of a masterclass in fragrance, thank you from my English rose garden on the shores of strangford lough. I planted my favourite clove carnations 4 years ago and it's only in this year that they have 'ripened' and the fragrance is coming through. My Harlow Carr did zero last year ( yr 1 ) by way of fragrance and I'm hoping it 'ripens' this year.
