    Hey! Do you know if the SAE actually requires any turbine time? The job listing says they want 50 hours turbine time OR 75 hours instrument. I'm wondering if those are hard and fast requirements, but don't have the opportunity to speak with someone in the airline to ask that question. The 250 TT, x-country and x-country night, and multiengine requirements I'll be good on quite soon. I'm not sure if I need to apply through my school, and pay my school for a "crew resource management course" or if I can just apply with everything but the turbine or instrument time. Any input?

    So, a Southern Airways Cessna Caravan loses power just after takeoff at Dulles International Airport. It’s safe landing on a highway, was just as impressive as the “miracle on the Hudson” some 15 years ago. Kudos to the pilots. I am sure Captain Sullenberger is impressed. Unfortunately that emergency landing also shows the “Achilles Heel” of single engine aircraft. In commercial aviation, engine failures are more common than pilots becoming incapacitated. And yet, Southern Airways is planning to use a plane with two pilots, but only one engine here at Williamsport. And it is not like Southern Airways doesn’t have twin engine planes in its fleet. They do. Perhaps if they offered fewer flights, but with more capacity, they could use them at Williamsport. Finally, 20 years ago or so, scheduled commercial flights at the Williamsport airport used Beech 90 King Air turbo-props It was a small twin engined plane and carried 9 passengers or so. And the Beech 90 King Air is still being produced.

    Looking at the news, I think I would rather have two engines and one pilot instead of two pilots and one engine. The number of engine failures is far larger than the number of pilot's dying or passing out in commercial aviation. Of course, the best option is two engines and two pilots. Most airlines have that. I think even Southern Airways has some twin engine planes. Funny that.

    when you commuted did you stay in a crashpad or was lodging provided?

    • @TheSoaringSamoan
      @TheSoaringSamoan 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on location. Most of the bases in the Northeast and Gulf regions, the pilots got together and rented an apartment and shared. There's only one location (at the time) that provided lodging and that was in Imperial. I'm not sure if it's still a thing or not as it was a Mokulele house and not Southern Airways.

      Im not a pilot but I would guess you stay at a base until the airline needs you repositioned, which could be months or years. There is a girl on tiktok that is a Southwest Pilot and she did a video about her getting repositioned from Baltimore to Chicago

    • @TheSoaringSamoan
      @TheSoaringSamoan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Colin, I totally understand. I too was once a line service tech at a FBO and totally understand. The wing tanks are fine but the fuselage in the back can be tricky for sure. Thank you for all you do. The beechjet is absolutely a tank to fly. Many don't seem to like the idea of having spoilers rather than ailerons but it definitely is a beast to fly.

    Okay mister, let's chat. Congrats first off! I've been thinking about changing direction for a bit now, and am thinking about picking up the additional ratings I need to get flying commercially. I live in the DFW area, and recently ran across Southern Airways. It caught my attention. How do your routes work? Is that a home at night most of the time kind of deal, or are you all over the place with little to no notice like other regionals can be? Do you get a steady base to operate out of? For me DFW is next door, and West Palm is my old stomping grounds too. I just wanted to pick your brain a bit as I'm seeing if I can get a plan together looking forward. Then there's the big question, can a living be made at it these days? Thank you sir.
