"Glory to His Name" (also called "Down At The Cross") is a Christian hymn written by Elisha Albright Hoffman(1839-1929) in 1878. As a minister he was appointed to the circuit in Napoleon, Ohio in 1872. In his lifetime he wrote more than 2,000 gospel songs.It is thought that Hoffman was reading about the crucifixion of Jesus in the Bible and began to think about how God saved men from their sins by allowing Jesus to die on the cross. The poem Hoffman wrote based on these thoughts was called "Glory to His Name". John Hart Stockton, a musician and Methodist minister, set the poem to music.
