I Remember in 98 i witnessed his first sason in serie A as an 11 years old child supporting fiorentina and Batistuta was my hero ( and still is ) but ronaldo was an alien , he did not have the shot power of bati , but i was astonished every time i was abke to watch him play , he was from another world , one of the most beautiful memories i have is when for an exinition match they played toghether ( yes , Ronaldo AND Batistuta) they were DEVASTATING toghether and seemed like they were teammates since forever 😢❤

Ronaldo was the best Forward of all time.... period! The most complete player, in my opinion was Cruyff! Let's not get too obsessed with goal scorers. Sure they are great to watch on the ball, but the true measure of greatness is the ability to play any position on the field: except Goalkeeper. And no one did it better than Cruyff. Beckenbauer once said: "I was the Kaiser, but Johan was the king"!

I remember the world cup final in France in 1998. In that final match Ronaldo Nazario couldn't perform well. After the match, almost all the journalists and football fans told that Ronaldo Nazario had been poisoned or bribed before the game, that's why he couldn't play well. Of course, it was only rumors. Ronaldo Nazario was not poisoned probably and not bribed. But what is shocking was the whole world actually believed that he was poisoned or bribed, the world couldn't accept even a single unsuccessful game of Ronaldo Nazario and everybody spread out those rumors because in his peak he was incomparable and it was unimaginable to think that he couldn't perform well. Nowadays we often see that even Messi and Cristiano sometimes play unsuccessful games, we accept it normally, we say that it happens to every player, but during his peak even a single unsuccessful game of Ronaldo Nazario caused that much drama. Yes, Messi and Cristiano have too many trophies and goals. But football is not interesting with trophies and number of goals, but football is interesting with entertainment. Otherwise everyone would watch basketball to count the goals. Ronaldo Nazario was more entertaining and skilled than Messi and Cristiano. That's why most people come back to Ronaldo Nazario often

R9 is more than the GOAT for me he is my inspiration in life. Till today I still say R9 was the one who inspired me in job interviews 😁. Which have nothing to do with football.

im following football actively since the 1994 world cup. from the players i have seen r9 is easily in my top 5. he did exactly what i wanted to see ( at least i like to think that, because he did things nobody had seen before xD). he realms in a league with messi, dinho and zizou. for me he is only second to lionel. but all those mentioned gave me what i wanted and is hard to describe in words. the way they moved...

A few things. First off, the curriculum is always fluctuating between team success and individual metrics. It's been a stat bias since 2021, I believe. This is why Messi won in 2018 over VVD cus it was stat based, but then they changed it to trophy based, in which he won it again in 2022 over Haaland. So, with that in mind, if he was, in fact, the most accomplished, he's the most deserving. I think that's dumb personally, no disrespect to Rodri. Hell of a player. I'm casual, so if I recognize you, a defender no less, it's really saying something, I'm sure. Especially an American casual at that. Secondly, all journalists are propagandists these days, no matter the genre. Ink n keyboard mercenaries. Pens for hire. It used to be personal bias, and you could tell someone was just a hater. Now you can see narrative hustlers. You're listening or reading something, and it feels like a sales pitch for a shitty used car. This is why I do not let writers tell me who's great. It's truly all subjective. It's something we could never know. You can only determine who had the best season, and even then, there's so much context. Nedved is a perfect example of this. In my opinion, he deserved it. Modric as well. They weren't stat warriors but impressed a lot at what they did. We can't really put a true value to most of the things we do. Not to babble, but its just a ridiculous award at this point. All these accolades are about feeding narratives and legacies

The reason you always go for R9 over every other striker (except perhaps the likes of Pele and Romario) is because R9 could, would and did score against ANYONE. Any team, any day, any competition, it didn't matter. You put R9 against the greatest team in the world and that team is going to be scared that he can score at any time. That's absolute magic. Hardly any player in history has that quality.

R9 was superb even with his injuries. His performance in the 2002 world cup was off the charts, and that was after his injuries. In 98 world cup, R9 hadn't had his injuries and only got 4 goals. So... Who knows. It's often forgotten that R9 evolved his game after his injuries, he had to remake himself in many ways. For instance, he lost quite a bit of pace so he had to focus more on positioning and passing, he was an exceptional passer and set up a lot of goals. He used his head more after his injuries and plenty of long range goals. I don't think it's a fluke that he got more goals in 2002 compared to 98. He developed a lot as a striker. In many ways he wasn't quite as good but in other ways he was I think better. Even in 2006 world cup he still had tremendous ability even though he was struggling with his weight. Check out his stunning goal against Japan in 06 world cup it's one of the sweetest shots you'll ever see. The thing that really wrecked everything for R9 was his enormous weight gain due to a major thyroid problem. He simply couldn't keep the weight off and come 2008 onwards he had another awful knee injury. He came back from that and played for Corinthians and helped them a lot, playing really well, even though the competition was no where near the level of la liga. But he was seriously heavy for a footballer by this point, I forget the exact weight but it was a lot.

R9 was unreal but i think he took drugs n alcohol n for that reason he cant be considered in the same breath as cr7 and messi!!

If you ever been decent at football and you're a bit older than 30 you habe no doubt. If you ever tried to drible someone, stop a ball, kick from distance, caress it, run with it, face a defender....you know hard it is to master even just one of those aspect. He managed to be the best i've seen in all of that and more, doing it at 200km speed with a body made of rock and the intelligence of playmaker. When the best players in the world, people like Maldini or Zidane says that he was on another level noone else had the right to contest it. I keep repeating the same in evey comment..he had a "short" career as match played do to injuries and he still managed to score 89 Goals DRIBBLING the Goalkeeper. Does anyone knows how crazy is that statistic?
