This is so inspiring, I wish I could get my hand on the exact journal you used. The index is so useful.
Hi! Glad you found it inspiring. I really wish this journal was more commonly available! But I haven't come across anything similar to this elsewhere.
I think the analysis of the Cain & Abel story was fairly superficial. When it comes to love and gifts, we have to consider the heart of God. God gives mankind THE GARDEN OF EDEN!!! What does man give back to God (in other words “What do you give to the “man” who has everything?”)? First, mankind gives back to God the first acts of disobedience and mistrust! Then, it gets worse! Genesis 4:3-5 “In the course of time Cain brought SOME of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD. But Abel brought FAT PORTIONS from some of the FIRSTBORN of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.” The answer to my parenthetical question? You give God the FIRST and the BEST (fat portions). God gave Cain one of the first great lessons for mankind: Genesis 4:6-7 “Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.” Doing what is right involves giving God our FIRST and VERY BEST! If Cain was humble, he could have learned this very valuable lesson. Instead, he allows himself to get embittered and resentful and he takes it out on his helpless little brother!!! Hurt people truly hurt people!!! The ultimate lesson of the book was “Timshel!” In other words, no matter what happens to you, in your life-whether good or bad-YOU can determine your ultimate outcome! You are NOT predestined to go the way of Cain-even if you have the blood of Cain running in your veins! Cain lived in a beautiful unspoiled land. It may not have been Eden, but it was close!!! What does he give God in response to God’s lesson for him? HOMICIDE. He gives God the bare minimum, then he gives God attitude, then he takes his only brother out in his rage. God was trying to teach him right (giving your first and best) from wrong (giving God the bare minimum), and he, essentially gave God the bird. Praise God that even though mankind continues to do this same thing throughout history, GOD STILL GAVE US HIS BEST-HIS VERY BEST; His very HEART ❤️ !!!
Thank you for the detailed explanation.
I'm currently reading this book. Thank you for this
Glad this is helpful. Happy Reading!
I wish I had known about commonplace journals decades ago, I feel like it’s a bit late to start one in my 50s 😒
Not at all. Do start one :)
This is definitely the best common place book video I’ve seen on TH-cam! I have been wanting to start one for so long, but I cannot figure out what to put in it and what not to. I think I’m just over complicating things. Thank you for posting this video!

Hello, I really enjoyed your video. I’m having trouble finding the journal you show case. Would you please post a link? Thanks so much!
Hi Sofia. I think it might be tough to find this journal in countries other than India. In fact, I've shifted from India to Singapore now and I can't find this journal anywhere here. So, I am now using the Kokuyo B5 folder as my commonplace book. I will post a new video about my updated journal. Hopefully, that should be an easier one to adopt. Regards, Archana.
@@readwriteinspire Thank you so much!! Your video by far has been the most practical in keeping a commonplace book!!
Can’t wait for the updated video!!
Greetings, Sofia! This is the second time watching this video and I was determined to find some type of accounting book WITH an index. I couldn't find any in the U.S., even in office supply stores. Instead of going to specific stores, I typed something like "Accounting Logs with Alphabetic Index" in my search engine and had a lot of hits. Many directed me to sites that were only selling pages of vintage logs....but...I did find an entry on the trading site that starts with E (I got in trouble with YT for giving names). I purchased a set of two accounting books WITH numbered pages and an index for $20+tax. I can't recall the date of the books now (I was so excited to find them!!!) but iirc they were at least 1960's or earlier and have not been written in but the covers show a bit of wear. That is another idea of how to track down books. 📚
Great video! So far, it's the best one - and I've seen a lot videos related to this topic, believe me
Thank you. :)

Watched the video till about 17:15 mins. I think I might have to unearth, dust my copy, give it a read and come back to this video. Also my copy is not the latest translation, I suppose. It's by Ralph Manheim. And yes, I have watched the movie, a decade or so back. Hoping to come back to this in a week or so and share my thoughts. I absolutely loved the book when I read it in 2009/10
I loved the book initially but it put me off later on, Bharadwaaj. I know he is an unreliable narrator but I started doubting every word he spoke. After about 400 pages, I didn't feel invested in the character or in the story. I think I must read it again. Maybe, I missed something.
Finally! A video on Commonplace Books that actually features a Commonplace Book, rather than a glitzy scrapbook with Japanese cartoon characters adorning every page. Thank you so much, I love the indexing approach. That's exactly how I'll set mine up.
Thank you. I'm glad you liked it. The index has been so helpful. I'm sure you will find it useful too. :)
