▶Typhoon Bebinca (2024)
Typhoon Bebinca made landfall in Shanghai on September 16, 2024, and has been recorded as the most powerful typhoon to hit the city since 1949. It struck the Lingang New City in Pudong, Shanghai, with maximum wind speeds reaching 94 miles per hour (approximately 150 km/h), causing widespread impact throughout the city.
The typhoon caused significant disruption to transportation in Shanghai, with over 1,400 flights canceled and more than 570 passenger train services suspended. In addition, over 10,000 trees were uprooted, and extensive flooding occurred on city roads. As a result, all flights at both Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport were canceled, and Shanghai Disneyland was temporarily closed.
Over 414,000 residents were ordered to evacuate, and 56,000 rescue personnel were deployed to assist in relief efforts.
