An era when cars were DIY friendly, which we seem to be moving away from. Sorry about the mic again, I tried to make it a bit better form last video but you can only do so much with it lol

Installing Some Goodies on the Nissan Frontier | K&N Cold Air Intake & Fuel Filter
มุมมอง 4563 หลายเดือนก่อน
Had to run to the junkyard for some small stuff, then installed a cold air intake and fuel filter. No Frontiers (D22) at the junkyard, but the Nissan Xterra shares the same engine so that worked :) #nissan #frontier #xterra #coldairintake #roro

Why I Chose a First Gen Nissan Frontier Over a Toyota Tacoma

My thoughts on a 1st generation (D22) Nissan Frontier vs Toyota Tacoma. Sorry for the subpar audio quality on some parts, that's what you get for a $10 mic lol #toyota #tacoma #taco #nissan #frontier #toyotatacoma #nissanfrontier #truck #roro #d22

I felt the same way about small trucks I have a 2009 frontier and always think I should be in a full size but the mid size meets my needs I hope midsize is coming back
didn't want to pay the Toyota tax?? lol Nissan can save you 3-5k easy. and still get a nice reliable truck.
I’m a new SV owner (‘99 SV650N), and I’m quickly getting the itch for trying to get this thing as perfect as possible. I personally find the Gen 1s to be the best looking generation, with the gladius being a close second. Love these bikes
Riding a bike cross country with no windshield is badass
Old cars Nissan, forever I have 2 xterra 1 frontier
I have a 2003 that I bought a year ago that came with 307k miles for $7k. I was also looking for a Tacoma but they were too pricy and I only wanted a manual truck so my options were limited. It has spent many months in the shop but I am finally driving it and it is great. I hope the engine lasts for another 200k miles.
The next generation that came out, had significantly more power but at the cost of a weakened drive train. It got a R180 Front diff and they have weak spider gears, you still hear of failures on the new frontiers. The rear differentials C200 and M226 both had their issues, particularly leaking rear axle seals.
i just got d22 for all these exact reasons i couldn't bring myself to spend double on a tacoma with twice as many miles
Same! I’m a Toyota guy, but I can’t justify spending $15k on a 20 yr old Taco with 250k miles.
I'm looking at a01 Frontier with 111k, no accidents and three owners. For $7k. The pictures look good and the numbers really good. Too good, you think? 3 owners, that mileage and and 23 years old ........?
Great review young sir, very informative.
Nice
I too had a hard time choosing btwn the two. I found a white one in the same spec as your beauty. I was pretty much sold on it until i sat in it. I'm 6'2 and 300 pounds. Not a good fit. I ended up with an 06 tacoma I've had 9y now. The 05+ frontier styling didn't do it for me. If I had your build I'm sure I would have bought that 01 frontier I looked at. I'll add that i DO like the brand new ones.
You can still get at these reasonable priced. Found a 2004 v6 4x4 crew long bed manual trans 205k miles $4500. A toyota of that be $9-12k, a dodge dakota , chevy colorado, ford would be in a junk yard as scrap metal.
Have a 04 XE with 235,000 miles and still running beautifully hoping to make it to 300 before I get something new
We are blessed in America as a much safer country to do this type of thing than many others. Everyone should try a long distance ride.
Wow. Great adventure. Very daring with those bikes but your expertise was gold to keep them going. Thanks.
Great trip! Your biggest mistake was the cb900 Honda, a beautiful bike notoriously unreliable. The Concours was a great choice and a newer bike couldn't be much better. Your resourcefulness was admirable!
I’ve owned all three the Colorado, the Dakota, and the frontier. I currently still have the frontier. I wasn’t a fan of the Colorado, I miss the power of my v8 Dakota but the frontier just handles like no other and will go anywhere with slightly bigger tires and no lift in the XE trim. Mine is identical to yours color, year, engine etc. but has the king cab. My major gripes are lack of aftermarket support and it is one of the worst vehicles known to man to work on due to space limitations. Overall I love my frontier it has 230,000ish miles and is still on the first engine and trans running strong. I’ve owned it for 3 or 4 years now and the only major problems I’ve had (left vehicle inoperable) have been various electrical gremlins. Overall very solid trucks.
Sounds like the old Kawasaki was doing OK... Not surprised, owned one of these, bought new in mid-90s before the model change. Great dependable ride. Surprised at the problems with the Honda, though.
Memories!!!!! hahahahaha
In their day those bikes were not top of the line, but they had the mojo. Your troubles were just due to needed maintenance before the trip ever started.
Wonderful story, really. I enjoyed every aspect; the footage, your narration and of course friendship. Well done, well told.
These bikes are too modern and reliable, IMO.
It’s 1974 me and buddy rode across country on a Suzuki 380 and a Kawasaki 900. Made it to Arizona and back. We camped out the entire time and together spent $400 on the trip. We hooked up with other motorcycles along the way. Fast forward the last six summers I have traveled with my girlfriend with ktm 500 and Honda trail 125 and a toy hauler to all the major parks in the west and eastern US
I just bought a 2003 Frontier XE crew cab 4 WD drive, with the V-6. Mine has the shorter bed and I prefer the shorter overall length. I also had the requirement of a manual tranny. The leather interior is in very good condition. But our trucks are very similar. It is in very good condition and I paid about 6 grand. It has 200,000 miles and runs like new. I am happy. Thanks for the video. I have owned many Toyota pickups. They are nice but overpriced.
If you bought a BMW airhead you would have had a boring uneventful ride across America (paging Peter Egan)
A lot of good bikes were made in the 80s
I thought the first gen was goofier lookin than that?
Mines turning on when its plugged in for a second and the turns off and once i unplug it from the charger it it doesn't turn on
👍 You guys have Grit!! Really enjoyed the ride, thank you..👍
I did it on a ‘70s 550. Of course, that was in 1978.
bro i didnt know whos video i was watching and when you said " THIS" at the beginning i legit thought i was watching doug Demuro for a sec
Oh sad about Ashville
Give me an early 80s GS 1100. I hitchhiked from Bloomington Indiana to eventually Seattle Wa in 1981 wishing the whole way for a GS 1100 anyway eventually in Seattle yrs later bought a 400$ Nighthawk 650 I aptly named trusty and used her to teach piano lessons all over Seattle for 10 yrs. Bulletproof bike.
Sorry bro, but that’s a second gen Frontier. You may claim this is just a face lifted D22, but it was more than that in ‘01. Different engines, frame updates, interior, axles, etc.
2nd Gen Frontier ran from 2005 to 2021. The one in this video is in fact a late 1st gen
D22 is D22
Those old 3.3L are bullet proof, I had a 01 Xterra with almost 400K miles before I flipped it in a blizzard. Congrats man 👏🏽
Awesome review thank you !!
AAA is garbage from what I hear. Tows can take several hours and there are so many reports of tows just never coming. Would be cheaper to probably just put some money in a savings account for emergencies instead of paying a company like AAA.
lol the paypal scam image is priceless
I have one Just like yours here in Brazil, but is a MWM 2.8 diesel engine. It is a Nice piece of engineering.
You will NEVER forget this trip.
Great buy. I have a the exact same truck with 230,000 miles and have had it for 14 trouble free years.
Two friends and I rode from Maryland to the Oregon coast and back the end of June - early July. I was riding my '90 Moto Guzzi California III and my friends were on a '71 Moto Guzzi 750 Ambassador and '73 Moto Guzzi 850 Eldorado. All three bikes were well prepared before the trip. We were carrying some spare parts, tire irons, spare tubes and most importantly - a small electric air pump. Zero breakdowns, just a leaky petcock which was tightened and one fouled plug on my Cal III. 6650 miles. That's one item checked off my "bucket list".
Great story boys. Brought back 50 years of trip memories to this old bike bum.
Cool trip you guys Next time try riding back roads, it's easier on bikes and the view is better I ride a sportster around the west and ride 2 lanes and dirt roads wherever possible
I notice the ol concourse kept plugging away. I wanted one of those pretty bad back in the day
This video is maybe the best explanation for the reason why bikers are vaving each other. Many bikers (incl. me) had their first long rides on terrible bikes and no money and had recieved selflessly help from other bikers, when needed.
I have a 2001 nissan frontier with the same engine. Mine has 218k miles and still runs fine. I get decent power out of mine too but the gas mileage definitely isn't great.
I have always ridden old bikes. My primary ride today is a 1987 GL1200 with 100,000 miles on it. When I'm in the states I ride it every day and make a cross country trip every other year.
Amazingly 👏
