Its Darts....just Darts. Great performance though.
Cheers :-)
This was great to see I’ve forwarded on to my uncle Mike Pritt 👍
John Hudson you legend !
Cardiff. Along with Snell's D&C, I believe? It was a great contest.
Fabulous. No other words.
What a superb performance. I play with one of these performers now (in 2023) and they're every bit as sharp
Solid exiting performance, Great tempo.
what a band ,
Awesome! Is there a way to get a video of the full Britannia performance?
Sorry - I don't have that.
How good to see & hear Bob Howard there as Contest Controller!
So brilliant ! Michael doing his fun piece. Come back Michael!
Fab!
Awesome!
Nice opening performance and nice piece of history, the time just before mobile phones. I wonder what Philip Jones and Harry Mortimer chatted about on stage?
Probably telling him the only joke he knew that he always told if he turned up at Pontins for the prizes!!!
@@herbiestrainsbands346 Around 50 years ago (!!) me and my friend got his and Elgar Howarth's autograph when they appeared as soloists with the SNO at the City Halls in Glasgow ( this was the year the latter began his remarkably long association with Grimethorpe). He and Howarth were really nice to us 2 starstruck youngsters. Years later I felt that PJ was an example of the Peter Principle - people being promoted beyond their ability - because to be brutally frank although he was a long time competent professional 2nd trumpeter there was no way on earth he merited being appointed to the principal chairs of symphony orchestras ( which he was). I had no idea he ever adjudicated at BB contests. His huge contribution to brass was founding the PJ Brass Ensemble in 1951 which became his full-time commitment 20 years later pushing orchestral brass ensembles and nagging and cajoling British composers to write for the various different combinations: the recorded legacy of the PJBE on the " Argo" label has never been replicated. Btw his and Howarth's friendship and professional association endured to the end of PJ's life. Quirky fact: 28 years after meeting him as a starstruck youngster my friend helped organise the music at his funeral in 2000.
@@phillipecook3227 Oh dear, sounds like we're from the same age group!! I have to say that I was always a brass band bass player rather than a tuba player and so have never emersed myself in the world of orchestral brass. That said, I do have recordings of PJBE and others, but they've never been 'over played' and so don't know a lot about the man himself other than his reputation to push for more recognition of brass. The joke btw, was one Harry Mortimer would be telling P J rather than the other way round!!! lol
Soloist band and rough date?
Mike Pritt, Newham Band, Circ. 1984/5
I was there and remember being suitably impressed …
Enjoyed that!
Hello Simon! Well, I never thought I'd see this again! Happy days. The opening fanfare is from Carmina Burana. I see that you've put up videos of all the other pieces on the programme except Chris Mowat's arrangement of Masques - is that one not available? I remember Peter Parke's written comment on it - "at last, for the first time today, SOUNDS!"
Hey Alex! Good to hear from you :-) I'm not sure what happened to that - if I find the original video at some point, I'll check it! Great days in the Hanwell Band :-)
Nice playing. Especially love the eupho parts.
Good playing. I don't think anyone could have beaten Fodens in those days.
Bloody ace. That is really classy!
Miss this show so much.Good fun.
It was!
Hi there, do you have the full footage of the whole schools prom 1986 by any chance? As there is a particular performance I would like to see.
I don't think so, but if I come across the original tape again, I'll check!
Simon Lancaster-Brown I would greatly appreciate it if you can. Valley park school is the performance I'm looking for. Thanks.
Nice playing
love this song. still have the original showing on vhs from when it aired on tv
Wow! Great to hear!
Does anyone have the entire show? I was part of the Rock Island Diner group that performed at the finale, but can't find it anywhere.
I don't think I have the whole show on tape, but I remember you guys well. You had a great routine & I used to go to the Rock Island Diner in the Trocadero Piccadilly Circus. (But you guys were from Sheffield, is that right?).
Well played love , it must have been a daunting experience for you !
Thanks for sharing, Been looking for this for ages
Seriously bad conducting but some great playing!
Well, we liked Paul's conducting and so did the adjudicators ;-)
