This vid is more a commentary on how easy this valve adjustment is, than a detailed step by step instructional vid. Its intended for someone who has previously turned a wrench. The bike is a 2013 and the last year for the long lineage of the cfr80s and XR80s. This vid applies to all years, but check your manual for valve clearances on older models.

I just changed the oil in my 2024 Corolla and noticed it took almost 5 qts, not the 4.4 in the manual. I know the 2023 model takes 4.9 qts. for the 2.0. I wonder if it was a misprint in the manual. The old 1.8 took 4.4 qts. I skipped 0w8 and went right to 0w20, the engine seems quieter to me. No reason to fear the warranty boogie man, the Australian owner's manual even recommends 5w30 for the same engine.
The Genuine Toyota 0W-08 has more Moly than the Mobil 1 0W-08 according to VOAs that I've seen.
Are you wearing a mask inside your shop ? WOW
Ha Ha yeah, the bike was at my brothers garage and his wife didn't even want me coming over during the lock down. She didn't want me giving the vid to my brother, then to her. It took a lot of negotiation, one of them was wearing a mask. I only pulled the mask up when she looked out. They were out due to the pandemic. I worked at Walmart during the worst of it, high risk essential worker. Never missed a day and never got covid. I would have never worn a mask even at the worst of it, but Walmart made us, even our customers. New York's mandates on social distancing ruined ton of businesses, and as a nation our economy is still reeling. Covid Sucked!
From a warranty perspective, Toyota says to use 0W-8. The manual does say 0W-16 may be used, but the following oil change must use 0W-8. Toyota will deny any claim if the owner deviates from that while under warranty.
An odd amount of oil to put in it.4.6L I filled it to the max as in the manual says for my engine in a separate container marked on the outside and used it for nothing else. Makes it easy. Do NOT overfill any engine. Do check the oil quantity often as the additives do go away in between oil changes. Like I said I do mine at 3,000km every time. Not really an issue, but could be I guess. Make sure your manual doesn't list the older engine they used. Different quantity. See. They can't even get the manual right. Toyota Corolla Cross 2023. And no tow hooks. But shown in the manual. Trust nobody is my motto. Toyota sure has slipped over the last 15 years in a lot of ways.
That engine started with 5W-30 oil, then 5W-20 oil, then 0W-20 oil, then 0W-16 oil, now 0W-08 oil, and 0W-06 oil is in the works in Japan. It takes a bit of looking around the world in fact but that is the linage of oil for that engine. I use 0W-20 oil same as my lady friend does in her Honda HRV. But you do what you want/ after all it is your brand new engine.
Just got my Corolla 24 and its time to replace the oil. Will have to do my own oil change since I DO NOT TRUST the dealership to get it right. Last time I took my rav4 for complimentary oil change the dealership sucked the oil out through the dip steak hole add fresh oil on top and called it a day. I witness mark my oil filter housing and other parts. None were disturbed. Conclusion. Oil filter was not charged. Plus you never know what oil they use.
NAY NAY NAY go and do it yourself right!
I am changing mine soon. Did you buy your 0w-8 at Walmart? because I couldn’t find it in auto parts….
what brand of ramps are you using? I have the rhino ramps max and I noticed that it does hit my bumper when I tried it today with my Corolla LE.
Hey, Magnum 8 is all thats on them. Try this link.www.walmart.com/ip/Magnum-Automotive-Group-1002-01-Magnum-16-000-Lb-Automotive-Ramp-System/132035152 I think I scraped ever so lightly when I went up too. not bad. You might be able to prefab something with wood.
oh wow didn't know walmart is selling 0w 8! Just bought mine online. Thanks
They do come out. You just need to change your o ring grommets when you pull them out. There’s a good chance the o ring will come out when pulling the bolt through it.
They came out if I remember correctly, i didn't change them they were fine.
Spray the oil filter socket with WD-40 first or any light oil and it won’t stick on there as badly
As someone who does maintenance on my friends vehicles, I sure do appreciate those DIYers who upload their installation processes. You sir, are a good man!
I have one just like that I put a knew coil on it and still no fire do you have any idea?
Thank you young man.
0w8 is here strictly to satisfy epa / cafe fuel economy regulations . Toyota doesn't make that choice ,,, toyota HAS to abide by those laws here in north america . I wouldn't run anything thinner than 0w20. ideally 5w30 synthetic is what i would run ... epa cafe regulations DO NOT have long term engine life in mind .... especially with the ridiculously long OCI's that toyota is calling for .. I suggest 5w30 changed every 3000 to 5000 miles . your engine will last 500k easily . while burning no oil between changes
Totally agree with you on the EPA mindless decrees, My only question is why would the EPA only required 0w8 in Toyota's smallest engines, which get the best gas mileage to begin with. And why only Toyota, Is the EPA prejudicial. I only went 0w8 so I had some record of it for warrantee purposes. Going 0w16 at 5000. Never 5 weight. FYI on 5w30, GM has gone to 0w20 on their small engines. They found that the variable valve timing solenoids were a big problem, along with timing chain tensioners. I have first hand experience with solenoids getting plugged. Even with faithful 3000 mile oil changes, I went through 3 sets before 70000. Those solenoids need the right oil weight to activate properly. Toyota uses an motorized adjustment but still hydraulic controlled. The right initial weight at start up is huge too, its where most wear occurs. But I still have no solid Idea what to use.
You are wrong
What could go wrong with 10,000-mile oil changes in Las Vegas with 0W-08 oil? lol 5W-30 full synthetic in the summer/ 0W-20 in the winter. Canada. Dealerships will ' only use the required oil as tagged on the vehicle. Needless to say, I always do my oil changes for the past 60 ++ years. Don't trust the lowest lad in the shop doing it right. Did it twice and both times stripped the drain plug end .I was on a long trip both times.
You guys have zero idea about oil. You do realize oil thickness have no relation to engine and bearings fiction reduction and protection, the oil film need to protect the metal to metal is measure in micron. In fact. As long as the oil don’t break down and keep it properties the thinner the better
that's cool as hell. sry but you wouldn't catch me down there
Love that dokken intro
Nice dokken intro
It was the yzzn1 on it when I took it off. I guess they use them both. They are both made by Denso but the yzzn1 is made in a Thailand facility. I might seek a 10009 on my next change.
Yes, both filters are available. I used the YZZN1 filter when I changed it a few weekends ago. I used the Mobil 1 0W-8 oil from Walmart as well. It's not readily on the shelf, but you can have it delivered home in a few days' time. What was the part number of the filter tool you bought? I bought a set of Vevor cap wrenches and they work, but they don't allow you to put the square drive in all the way if you bottom out the cap on the filter. Funny after I did the oil change, the dealership called for the car's "5,000 free service" and I told them that I already changed the oil and filter myself. The woman said, "It's not for that. It's for tire rotation (I don't even have 3,000 miles yet) and fluid top off". That tells me as you stated, that they are pushing the 10k oil change interval. Like you, no dice for me. 5k/6 months and being it's a Toyota, it will last a long time.
And Toyota owns Denso/35 % of Mazda, 20% of Subaru etc etc etc. The engines all designed by Yamaha in Japan but built by Toyota. How many Tundra engines are they changing right now? Oh ya, 102,000 not counting future issues with the 2024 model/25 model. We shall see I guess. I use the oil filters made in the USA an sold by Canadian Tire here in Canada.
There’s a good chance the original oil filter is a made in Japan Denso 90915-10009. You can still buy that from Toyota however the part number that you used is the correct replacement that most dealerships and other shops would use.

I wish u would of put avideo of the sound
Go to my video just before this one . " Grom valve adjustment engine noice"
Bad video on install
Had this same problem on a engine I bought about 3 years ago 😂
What did you use to clean under engine cover where the front sprocket is?
Can't remember, simple green or something like that. It was just mud and dirt. If some greasy grimy stuff was present, I might have used engine brite or a degreaser. Thanks for watching.
The valves have too much play, you have set the valves in the wrong position, which is why the valves rattle.
My next vid shows how I fixed it. After taking the cover off the right side I noticed the oil spinner nut can loose. Worth the watch.
I easily got mine out with an Easy Out tool.
Check the timimg chain easy anuf to do bud have we look youtube ull find aload diong them 👍 thanks for vif ill be diong both chain and vaulves 🤜🤛

Somebody please sponsor this man an ergo lift. 😅 thanks for the video !

I have one like that. It ran great for the last 5 or 6 years until about 2 weeks ago. Then couldn't get it to run for crap

history will not be kind to the maskers. and im gonna go out on a limb, but the shariah beards are gonna be on the list with the mask, the things you can get people to do list. number 3 is self mutilation.
Worked like a charm my friend 👌🏻

Love the Dokken. Thanks for the content
Looks like a super nice area to ride, sick graffiti art tunnel aswell
Just swap out the carburetor.
Is it me or does it kinda sound like a grom?
Its a thumper, they all have that basic sound. I think the RPMs went up quite a bit quicker than a Grom. My current Grom has Two brothers, K&N and a DHM tune for that set up. Sounds good but the rebel sounded mean, more of a CRF 450 type. Don't have that 300 beast any more, but it was fun.
Nice, going to look at a 07 CRF80 this weekend for my boys. Great shape and clean but will need a new piston/rings he states but for $950 I might go for it. Has FMF exhaust too. Great winter project for a top end and to freshen up things to teach my boys about engines.
My bike went from 19 mph to 46 with just a torque converter and with governor
How do you do that? Can you share a link and install directions for both?
sounds like a 4 stroke dirt bike. Much better than stock.
Ya lost me with the tRump sign...
What
Do you have a link for the clutch tool?
I got it with the bike, but its a very easy search. www.amazon.com/1PZ-Spanner-Replacement-2014-2017-Motorcycle/dp/B071YCY466
Awesome video just bought one today for a super good deal however ima be replacing the rings and adjusting valves helpful vid 👌🏼👍🏼
Hello I love the sound great video can u where the link please I want to buy one for my rebels 300
i bought mine on amazon, looks to be currently unavailable. i see some on Ebay a little more than i paid but isn't everything now. www.ebay.com/itm/172788565716
Note the exhaust fits the 300 and the 500. I had mine on both. My link didn't specify.
We're is the tools
Have you figured it yet?mines exactly the same.. I'm trying to do some research before I take my engine to bits
Yep that fixed the problem, guy before me put a sex machine 6 disc cultch in. Must of not got the right torque on that nut.
What a way to spend a Sunday. Loved seeing old timers cruising neighborhoods like they were kids again. I'm going to put together a posse of mini bike hooligans in my area. See if we can get in trouble with the cops every weekend. LOL
