Fernanda Torres winning the Globe and the fire creating a window of time gave voters the opportunity to get to know the film and be enchanted by its power and message. As the actress herself said, "I know the art of the world, but the world doesn't know what we produce. I feel sorry for those who don't know our art." The fact that it needs to be legitimized by an award and a tragedy like the one in Los Angeles happens for voters to give it a chance and discover that someone other than the US and Europe has good stories to tell? I dot think people really understand how insane this was. Most critics had no reason to predict it. Everyone didn’t bet on it happening (they predicted Sing Sing, A Real Pain, or Challengers could’ve gotten its spot) and Torres only got the Globes nomination in the precursor awards. I believe the love for her speech, good word of mouth, and the voting delay due to the wildfires pushed it into that nomination.

I’m happy that _EEAAO_ won Best Picture. Top 10 for 2022. I’m not happy that its dominance came at the cost of _Tár_ and *_especially_*_ The Banshees of Inisherin_ winning nothing. Finally, I resent Jamie Lee Curtis’ blatant career win, made worse by beating superior co-star Stephanie Hsu. At least Angela Bassett _(Black Panther: Wakanda Forever)_ would’ve looked more understandable.
