    i was pooping my pants as i changed the position of the dizzy slightly, however after some research it does not matter with the h22 as its obd2 and the computer will set the timing itself!

      Check RockAuto, and make sure it’s the correct engine. Preludes have a few options h22, 23…

    LITERALLY the exact issue happened to me an hour ago while driving. Speedometer crapped out and D4 flashing. Codes were for a speed sensor and trasmission control system. Do you think there's actually an issue with the transmission? Speed sensors are on back order till june so would it be safe to drive my car still or would driving it create more problems?

      No. There are actually two but I was not aware of that. I have the second one which is the more complicated one because you have to basically take the distributor apart. But I'm still waiting for a day when I can take the time to do it period because I am still leaking oil through there

    • @Handy11man
      @Handy11man 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should fall right in. Did you make a mark between the cover and distributor before you took it off? Sway it gently as you're putting it in.

    Fine video. But just to be clear, in regards to disconnecting the battery to turn off your check engine light (in vid @ 5:44), YOU NEVER WANT TO DISCONNECT THE POSITIVE TERMINAL FIRST ON YOUR CAR BATTERY!!! YOU SHOULD ALWAYS DISCONNECT FROM THE NEGATIVE POST FIRST, and then if necessary disconnect the positive post. Here's a link to illustrate why this is so important. www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/a1454/4213127/

    Our 2000 Prelude VTi-R (DOHC-VTEC 2,2lt) & just experienced this problem and also slight speed changes without prompting. The car sort of jerks forward now as well without you doing anything . Pretty freaky, so not driving it till fixed. First the speedo went erratic, then 'D4" dash lights stayed on and flashing regardless of gear and hopefully it is the speed sensor. I will try this today. Thanks for the Video still helping in 2019. I will report back. Cheers

      If you're replacing the sensor there is no need to replace wires. Unplug the harness, replace the sensor and plug back in.

    Doing this and the lock out solenoid valve on mine today. Had the same symptoms. Tranny shifts smooth and on time but at low speeds can tell the converter is locking and unlocking Causing rpm variations. Speed sensor is under 30 bucks but the lock out solenoid is around 250 bucks. They can be found cheaper online, if you can wait and have access to order one.

  • @alexornelas9307

    Video was very helpful...is this another reason vtec wont engage?

    • @selfinflicted77
      @selfinflicted77 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shouldn't be. VTEC is controlled by rpm and throttle. Sometimes oil pressure issues will cause it not to go into VTEC and also can be caused by bad solenoid.

    • @selfinflicted77
      @selfinflicted77 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lock out solenoid is possible. Do the rpms change when rolling at low speed. (Like 10 mph) If it is the lockout it will surge up and down as the converter locks in and out.

  • @jasoncrowther5202
    @jasoncrowther5202 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't go into Vtec too often with that auto trans. There kinda crappy. Unlike the 5 speeds. I have a 98 Prelude manual with 225000 and still shifting great.

    • @ss0abe
      @ss0abe 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Broo i got a 99. Like starts up fine. Shifts good but when it gets to high rpms it kinda chokes shakes and doesnt accelerate .u think its this sensor? Also when in neutral wont rev up as high as usual

    • @selfinflicted77
      @selfinflicted77 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a 96 prelude with head work, headers, intake and exhaust. It also had a computer tune. It was a 5 speed and it was fast AF for a little 4 banger. As long as you stayed in VTEC it ran like a mofo. I now have a 2001 with the same engine but stock and automatic tranny. From what I have noticed, if you don't use the slap shift to fully wind each gear it tends to shift before it's is in VTEC range. Resulting in a momentary drop in power before it kicks back to VTEC. I don't know if this is an issue with all the automatic preludes, but with mine I have to use the slap shift if I want to keep it in VTEC through all gears.
