I have bought a non running 225 ST, I done a compression test and had none in three cylinders so I was certain it was going to be a head gasket problem. I removed the engine and box because I would normally replace the bearings, re-hone the block and replace the rings. I left the head in to get skimmed, it took 2thou to level it so now I will need to fit the extra thick head gasket. I can't wait to see and hear it running. Hope your project goes smoothly for you.

I've just taken a lump out and swapped it. Need to workout if cracked liners or head next. Put fast line hybrid turbo, rs injectors, Airtec plenum, full hose coolant kit and big turbo boost pipes with direnza fmic and just a dreamscience map for the time being. Ran 326 on dyno, needs mapping for turbo to push 380 :)

G'day from Australia, I have a 2010 LV XR5 (ST3 Mk 2.5) - Always enjoy any ST content and really do hope its just a head gasket failure (seems more likely than cracked liners in two neighboring cylinders however it CAN happen even to block modded engines).

My drink would be vodka to help with stress and keep anger at bay 😂

Id just get another engine into it mate. I think these st engines are fairly easy too get hold of. Either way ive subbed for the journey.

check for rust where all mk1 and mk2 rust through. after that decide if it is worth it to put effort in. some body panels are nearly impossible to get, not aftermarket, not even from scrap cars

I'm in a similar position to you lol. I've bought a Mk2 with a suspected water pump issue (going dreamscience this week) hopefully, that's all it is. Always loved these cars, always wanted one. Now I've got one, I don't want to let it go lol. Good luck and hopefully it's just the head gasket but make sure the heads not warped too

100% a cracked liner, its got all the telltale signs of it. Either cut your losses or spend about £1000-1500 on a replacement engine and pray its not blown like this one is.

Never seen one as bad as that with that much pressure coming out the header tank I think it's more then a head gasket I dont know them newer focus as I keep to older vehicles I can repair myself I think you need to sell it on or break it for parts as engine could be nackered it was cheap as the person knew it was in that way when he sold it to you it's worth taking the head of and check it over but I would not get your hopes up on it but good luck 👍

Could do a sniff test for head gasket but as someone said the headertank is pressurising so its quite poorly. These are amazing cars when running right, dare I say a cheap car will cost more to fix in the long run

These engines are extremely common for cracking the cylinder liners in the block if they’re not block modded. I have a funny feeling this is your case buddy unfortunately. If I were you I’d be looking at new motor for it. Need to take the head off and look for cracks in the liners first tho to confirm as it could be a head gasket but it’s fairly unlikely mate.

Combustion coming out of the header tank(where you fill it with water) means at least the head gasket has gone,not too expensive if you do it yourself but with respect got someone else to do it 😂

How much do you want for the car as is

Before you take the head off check where the leak is coming from. Could be an cracked oil cooler or a hole in the block for example. Then check the sparkplugs to see if they are wet. Then do a dry and wet compression test to see if the headgasket is gone. Only then take the head off, its a time and $$$ expensive job which should be a last resort.

Anyone know what the yellow & red warning lights next to the odometer are for? I’m looking for an ST. Just wanna make sure it’s nothing terminal should they be on.

i would get a new battery or at least get someone with jump leads to try a jump start if battery keeps going down every 2/3 day i would say you have the common mk2 focus problem with the instrument cluster

I would get a new battery bud, if that doesn't work the instrument cluster will need soldering. Can get a company to do it for around £100

I had the problem that battery is dead get a new one and an OBD 2 code reader you will need it.

As already pointed out, just get a new battery for it, if its not the battery then instrument cluster may have dry solder joints, regarding that smoke and misfire, defo looks like water burning, could be a number of things, headgasket, cracked liners maybe, common on these

I am guessing it's the battery.
