GLOCK Tribute for Gaston Glock. Few gun makers have changed gun design and manufacturing. Some of these names include John Browning, Sam Colt and Eugene Stoner. One more name could be Gaston Glock. @buckeyesoutside 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great to hear that you are making it out! Best of luck to you. And yes! Duck green will likely be fine. If you can, try to match your background where you are sitting, that will help. Just keep in mind when considering fancy gear (which can be awesome) that by the year 1900 most of the wildlife was eliminated from the landscape by unrestricted market hunting. Those guys didn’t even have camouflage. And they did it with single shot guns. Getting out, and hunting is the best advantage you can have. Finding quality places to hunt is the next most important. Fancy gear is way down the list. Have a great time! “The best camouflage pattern is sit still and be quiet” -Fred Bear

    I have been reloading the Hornady 165gr FTX for the 350 Legend for the past three seasons for the two boys I take hunting in IA, as well as my daughter here in IL. In terms of accuracy, most 3 shot groups from a Savage and a CVA Scout have been under 1" at 100yrds, so I certainly can't complain about that. The FTX bullet has worked exceptionally well in the field as well for the three of them- probably 8 deer taken between kids. These shots were between 20-135yrds. Two of the shots were on larger bucks. To the best of my memory, only one bullet did not exit (shoulder shot). That shot was on one of the larger bucks. All shots that had exit wounds left "good" blood trails, but could have been a bit better. I will be working up some different loads using Barnes 170gr copper bullets, though I can't complain much about the accuracy and terminal impact of the Hornady 165gr FTX.

    Not to be critical, but that tip does several positive things for what is otherwise a pure copper hollow point. It helps the bullet keep more speed, helps it fight wind resistance and helps it expand much faster (which solid copper needs).

    • @buckeyesoutside
      @buckeyesoutside 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree with you. I have had experiences with other projectiles, where I feel that the tips prevented the expansion. As long as they work as designed, they are great. That seems to be the case with these. We uploaded another video showing the positive results with expansion. I completed a .350 Legend, AR-15 build this fall and took two deer with two shots. I was using ammunition by Bear Creek Ballistics out of East Leroy, MI. They sell both a 160 grain, all copper with ballistic tip, and a 140 grain, all copper with ballistic tip. I used the 140 grain (which is very close in ballistics to the practice ammo by Winchester), and had great success. The performance of the 140 grain was superb out of my AR. I was shooting a 3/4" group at 50 yards. I am a huge fan of this ammo.

    took my first deer a week ago with the 350. i used the hornady 147 grain xtp, 68 yard shot, deer made it 30 yards from impact site, minimal wound channel. did not get a pass thru. lead fragments were in the hide on the off side. will be trying out the all coppers, i use barnes in almost every other hunting rounds i shoot. not to impressed at this time with the load

    • @buckeyesoutside
      @buckeyesoutside 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m used to the results that I get with a 12 ga. I have to remind myself that the 350 is not a 12 ga. I’m not going to get the results that I’m used to. With that said, it doesn’t have harsh recoil, the ammo is less than half the cost and it is slightly more accurate. There are pros and cons. The smaller or more recoil sensitive the shooter is, the more the benefits lean toward the 350. I’m just trying to get the most out of it. As I stated in an earlier post, the 350 isn’t going to be some magical, awesome deer round. It is what it is…A small and fairly effective option if the bullet is sent to the proper place. With the small sample size of one deer with the copper impact, I do believe you will have better penetration and less fragmentation. I’m not sure if it will make much of a larger wound channel. Best of luck to you and thanks for your input!

      It’s a 100 yard and in gun. I’m sure it’s accurate further, but there isn’t much energy. I think it’s great for people who can’t or don’t want bigger guns, but it’s not some magical deer slayer. Just my opinion… it’s good for kids and women. My advice is just to be patient. You were hunting in a good place. Find the most used trails you can find in an area and sit there. It might take several days, but it will happen. The hardest thing for people to do is sit still. If you can’t sit still, or get cold and need to move, just look for the quietest path, take one step every couple minutes, and only walk when the woods gets noisy (wind blows, loud truck going down a near by road, plane or helicopter overhead ) try to keep the wind in your face. It will come together.

    Your scope gives me pause in thinking that gun doesn't shoot better than that. I have a double to that riffle and it's shooting much tighter groups with pretty much everything it's been fed. Maybe I just got lucky too?

    • @buckeyesoutside
      @buckeyesoutside 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It would likely be possible to tighten those groups up at 100 yards with a nice 4-12. I like the 2-7 for the 100 yd and closer shots in our area. The Nikon pro staff scope that’s on it I feel is a very appropriate choice for that gun. Every time we shoot it, the groups remain close to the same for each type. I feel that it is plenty of accurate for it’s purpose. I hope that the copper impacts perform well on deer. It’s great to hear that yours is treating you well. Best of luck to you. Thanks for watching.

    Just got one in .243. Very difficult to open it, likely impossible for your son; I’ve found if you hold the lever back when you close it, then release, it will open easily next try. Hammer also a hard pull, as you say. Vortex Crossfire I purchased won’t fit with low Vortex rings, will be trying medium rings this week. I haven’t seen anywhere what rings/scope combos work well! Scope on it,just under 8 pounds, so short, not lightweight. Happy hunting!!

      Hey Robert, I just ordered the .243 this morning. Curious if you used a one piece scope mount? Also any luck finding a good bag for when its broken down? Thanks!

      … the gun comes with a 1-piece scope mount … they sometimes do a crappy job of attaching the mount at the factory leaving all kinds of oil & dirt on the threads … take the factory mounted rail off and clean everything then remount and locktite the threads

      I never had a chance to do the gel test. I’m hoping that we will be able to see the performance on deer in mid November during the youth deer firearms season. It absolutely does shoot the best out of every other ammo that we tested. I’ll will post our finding as soon as possible, hopefully before most of the states general firearms seasons open. Thank you for watching!

      We had a successful hunt today. The results were very good. We also tested the 12 and 20 ga copper impact last week. I will have a video of the slugs out first…hopefully tomorrow and the .350 hopefully later in the week. But I wouldn’t hesitate to give them a try. They were our best used up to this point.

      I have heard of those. Someone else recommended them. As I remember, they were expensive and sold out when I was going to pick some up. I may need to revisit that idea. Thank you. Do you like that cascade? I am thinking of one for myself in .450 BM.

      @@buckeyesoutside Overall, the gun is ok... Good trigger... fit and finish are as expected in that price range...But shoots well. And that ammo isn't much more expensive than that ammo you're posting about. If any.

    Very nicely done video, and you certainly have lots of personal experience with a variety of broad heads. That said, shooting a crossbow at higher speeds one can still get penetration and large cuts with the razor-tipped heads. A friend of mine killed 8 deer last year all with RAGE. I too plan to test a variety of rear deployment blades this FALL, but plan to start with the RAGE Crossbow X in 125 size.

      Experimentation is fun. I would still be careful hitting shoulder or spine with those. I have no doubt that broadside heart lung shots will be without issue. Best of luck in the upcoming season!

      I agree because I know so many fellow hunters who have switched away from mechanicals and now shoot fixed blades. A couple of friends now upgraded to IRON WILL which are so expensive. Even The Hunting Public guys have switched to fixed, so the jury remains deadlocked. Thanks for commenting! th-cam.com/video/oGJKEUa8rmw/w-d-xo.html

    Hopefully you get a chance to handload for the rifle to bring out its full potential. They are made by Bergara and are phenomenally accurate. I just wish we got the Bergara B13 takedown models that are in Europe, as those come with iron sights on certain models. Hopefully it brings your son many years of hunting enjoyment and father-son bonding time.

    Whether we like it or not lead is harmful not only to other animals that ingest it,but to people consuming small and big game.

    • @buckeyesoutside
      @buckeyesoutside 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The raptors seem to struggle the most with consumption of lead. I don’t think that eating a few deer a year poses much of a threat to humans. Most of the fragments end up in a gut pile. Other things can be done to prevent lead exposure to raptors such a burying or removing the intestines from the field. I am experimenting with more copper loads personally for that reason though. If I can get good terminal performance from copper, I will likely make a change. I’m not willing to give up much though when other things can be done to mitigate the concerns. It’s a great conversation to have. Thank you for your thoughts.

    • @davidguelette7036
      @davidguelette7036 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @buckeyesoutside It's probably more of a problem with shot in small game,but supposedly very small amounts of lead have detrimental effects.
