Toyota MR2 7AGE Oil Leak Fix/Drive | EngineeredtoDrive
In this video i finally fix the oil leak that has been haunting me since the 7AGE has been running. Unfortunately, the car is leaking water on the back of the head but i'm not too worried about that. As long as it isn't over heating and leaking oil I am cool with it!

Attempting to fix the oil leak on the 7AGE MR2

So I attempted to fix the oil leak on the car but as always the car just gives me a gigantic middle finger. I have a theory on what the issue could be. When I got the crank polished a while ago I noticed that the back of the crank where the rear main r...

7AGE build begins for the MR2!
มุมมอง 1K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I went to the junkyard and picked up a 7AFE for the MR2. This is to begin the conversion to a 7AGE! Overall the engine will have more torque at the cost of a reduced redline. This build is definitely going to be a budget build in order to get the car back on the road. Eventually i want to boost the car and add forged internals and the whole 9 yards. Enjoy everyone!

      Did not work better. The plastic stretched to much causing it to be loose and I have to press down to far causing the loose plastic to bust and the clips would go inside the socket. 😢

    I tried this on a basic Toyota 2e 1.3 12v engine to replace valve stem seals while the head is on the engine and in the car..this combined with the 'Rope' Top dead centre method..(there many threads on it)..I changed valve stem seals with the head on my engine in my car in an hour or two..no more exhaust smoke from leaky seals and improved my timing aswell.Thanks for the awesome tip and trick. Just a note: for this to work you need to put a fair amount of elbow grease in it

    I have been struggling (and cursing) trying to replace the valve seals on my NA MR2. Spent most of the day just on the exhaust valves on cyl. #1 (the easiest). Ready to give up. Tried your method, and I installed both exhaust keepers on cyl. #3 in 15 minutes. Nothing more satisfying than hearing the click of those keepers falling into place. THANK YOU for the tip.

    you obviously know what you're doing, I threw a like on this after 30 seconds. I put a 7AFE in my '98 G6 Corolla you can see in the profile pic and always wished I had the skills to make it a 7AGE. I gained like 20 kW, though, so in my mind it was still worth it. I have the C161 6-speed transaxle, and it's barely hanging on, but the close ratios make the 1.8 feel very spiffy in this 3-dr hatch

    • @engineeredtodrive8589
      @engineeredtodrive8589 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The head studs were for a 4age yes so same torque spec. Unfortunately, there isn't a way to tell. Each shim and bucket has it's own corrsponding wear pattern to the head. You may have to end up getting another head or attempt to take measurements of buckets to hole in the head. I don't think that would work though because the buckets would each wear such a small amount off the total measurement. Sorry about this bad news. Shims, I just happen to have a lot of them that I have collected over the years. I think some motorcycle shims work but I'm not for sure. Thanks for watching!

    • @majorpain7248

      @@engineeredtodrive8589 thank you ! Another question, did u use a comet head gasket, and another thing about the shims and buckets at this point does it really matter we’re they go since there wouldn’t be much of a wear difference.? My plan was to use a metric ruler to check the wear and go off the book and see what gap differences were between intake and exhaust, .

    • @engineeredtodrive8589
      @engineeredtodrive8589 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@majorpain7248 trd head gasket. The buckets, that's up to your discretion but I'd definitely get a micrometer and caliper to get the dimensions of the head. You aren't getting anywhere close to an accurate measurement with a ruler. It is worth a shot!
