Thanks for not hitting me. I am the rider that “cut the track”. The real explanation is the slow traffic that I was struggling to get around; which killed my drive coming out of turn 6. This led me to over slow 7 (normally I enter 7 about 20mph faster than I did here) however I did not adjust my braking point or turn in point to correctly account for the slow entry. which makes it look like I cut the track. You would have been just fine if you were on the left of me and turned in. But we made it out and we’re safe. Apologies brother.
No Worries man, Glad everybody made it out safe. Was defiiitely a butt clenching moment for me... LOL. Definitely a lesson to be on the inside of the rider in front if going into a corner that close together.
Back in the day of WERA Endurance racing Grattan was one of my favorite tracks to race.
Do you still race?
Hey why didnt ya pass me? I run pretty consistent points on track, follow me for 2 laps n should be able to pick out where you're faster than me n make a safe pass! Nice riding thou man
I try to keep my passes really safe and considerate. :)
nice, ya blasted past me down the outlap straight! You use tire warmers? I dont, bummer your Battery died!
This is the first time I'm running warmers, ,it's nice to be able to get on track and get to pace immediately... Just got a set of V02 slicks for next season as well. Looking forward to trying them out.
well well well, never been first and watchya from afar. Keep up the good work buddy. Nice shit.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK SIR. I said that in ALL CAPS, so you know its important. lol
Hey! Great job!! I'll be watching little by little... How many miles? Were the valves out of specs? Thanks!!
Thank You!. The bike had ~11000 miles on it when I did the clearances. One of the valves was out of spec, but many were close to the limit. I would advise doing it earlier, maybe 6K miles.
Just post up videos for the sake of doing so if you enjoy doing/making them. Like me. Are you planning on going to Grattan on 9/21-22? I might be there again! Dude you need to go to MID OHIO too, love that track, they got a 99% repave 1 yr ago!!!
Yup, Just like making and sharing them! Have been planning to go to mid Ohio for a while now, saw your video of the track day there! I probably won't be at Grattan since I'm doing the Autobahn the weekend after.
Toujours pareil, nul
@@Pier03-o1p would you care to elaborate? I’m always willing to learn if you have constructive criticism to offer.
Smooth riding
@@jasoncummings6410 thank you! Still a long way to go, but starting to get the flow or track riding better now.
Everybody starts somewhere, have fun, be safe.
A lot of work for a valve adjustment. No wonder the rsv/tuono service is so expensive. I watched the whole series. Good job.
I probably made it look harder than it actually is LOL... but thank you!
Sounds Pretty good. What do you do for a living? Are you a mechanic?
Thank you! No, I am not a mechanic, just a hobbyist when it comes to repair/maintenance. I am an automotive engineer doing engine Dyno development work though, so I'm pretty comfortable playing with engines.
Instead of buying the torque extension, could you just use the 13mm spanner and set a 1/2 torque wrench on the other end of the spanner at 90 degrees? Wouldn’t this give you the same effect as the extension? A 1/2 torque wrench sets perfectly in the wrench head. What do you think?
If the spanner is at 90 degrees, no reason you couldn't do that!
@@Zenandtheart-cb2qi thank you for the videos you made on this procedure. They helped a ton. Amazing quality and editing as well. You should really do more maintenance videos. I think you could be very successful and your videos would benefit a ton of people!
Where is is track located?
It is in city of Belding, Michigan USA
I was there today 7-7-24 Only! I swear I was the slowest guy/gal out here today... bye ALOT! So many fast folks today!
Yeah, there were some fast folks out there this weekend for sure!
Do I have a V4? No. Am I about to watch hours worth of someone doing valve clearances on one. Yes!😎
LOL, no judgement here, I do the same thing :)
Earned my subscribe!
Where’s the coolant flush video!? I watched all 15 videos you’ve uploaded on this bike. You could seriously get pretty big on TH-cam doing bike maintenance videos. Great quality, engagement, and instruction. Hope you keep making videos like these.
Thanks for the kind words! I figured it is really easy to look up a coolant flush on TH-cam and I wouldn't be adding a whole lot of value by doing another one. If folks really want one I would be happy to do it however.
Thank you! I do intend to keep maing videos as I work on interesting and challenging projects on the bikes!
The quality inspectors 😂
Did you measure your clearances before ordering the valve shim kit?
That would have been the intillegent thing to do, LOL. But no, I bought a shim kit in the range I expected to need and then ended up ordering a few individual shims once I found out I needed more of one specefic shim.
My Aprilia mechanic actually showed me that you do not have to remove throttle bodies to do this job. You just need to remove the injectors and injector rails. The entire job can be done with throttle bodies in place.
Yup, I was aware of this. Since this was my first time doing it, I just wanted to have more space to work. It's a lot harder with the throttle bodies in place though.
My aprilia mechanic said that hose covering the front Valve cover, he cuts it and joins it together with a connector.
That's a really good idea!
Thanks so much for doing this! Your instructions and video was very clear! Keep up the good work sir!
Thank you! hope it helps!
Thanks for posting. Yea several red flags throughout that day! I'm glad the Sun finally came out to really dry out the track for the rest of the day! What year is your ZX6R? Mines an old 07'
Yeah, the afternoon was great! Feel like I was in your way in this session.. LOL. Mine is a '23 I bought from crashed toys to build up a track only bike. Would love to check out your setup sometime.
@@Zenandtheart-cb2qi cool, a 23'? does it have auto blipper too? My old bike only has quickshift up. I'm planning on going to Grattan on 6/22/24 Saturday. Long as weather will be good and it doesnt sell out b4 I buy my spot! lol
@@scorpion-ninja8228 The bikes haven't changed a lot. It's just a quickshift up too. We will be at the july 5th and 66th trackdays at grattan. unfortunately missing the 06/22 weekend.
@@Zenandtheart-cb2qi I might do July 6th. Maybe 7th too, depends!
@@scorpion-ninja8228 We will be in one of the garages, swing by and say hi!
Thank you bro!!! Very cool info!!!! Best
Glad it was helpful!
Great work!
Ive not done this yet myself, but, in hindsight would it not be easier to install the rear TBs first, so you can access the boot clamps from the front then install the front TBs and you can also access their boot clamps from the front? Good work though ....
Not sure it is possible to install them in reverse order, but I haven't tried. The manual says to follow the order I did.
Nice to see someone else makes the effort to clean up the working area before starting the job. Takes time but is so worth it. Getting the TBs off is a major faff but well done. Hopefully its not too bad getting them back on. Fortunately I only need to remove the front set in order to get at and remove the SAI junk. Enjoyed watching your work ....
Thank you! it takes a bit of fenagling to get them back on, but it's not too bad. Good luck with your project!
I wanna see you start it 😂 I have a 2017 factory myself
The bike is alive and well, Started and ran flawlessly, Video coming up shortly!
@@Zenandtheart-cb2qi nice
Re-upload for better editing. Shim size calculation sheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1h4_aq7va-aZJA3BMYIY_K1cQogf5GJttARXTuIT3cI8/edit?usp=sharing
Thank you for this very detailed series its been very helpful, I'll be doing this soon on my Tuono.
why are you removing throttle bodies to check valve clearance?
I realize it is possible to check the clearances without pulling the throttle bodies, but I like having plenty of room to work especially considering that this is the first time I am doing this job.
