    Like the simple design and clean look. A quick question for anyone and everyone. Why not cut the legs at a 5 degree angle to make them lean towards the center? Would it not make the stool just a bit more kid friendly for sitting or climbing on? I plan to go on a scrap wood hunt later today to see if I can find some wood to make some of my own. Nice inspiration. Thanks.

    • @builditnotes7551
      @builditnotes7551 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a tenon saw. Sometimes also use a carcass saw. Most of my nicer saws were from Lie Nielsen. I did use loose tenon, made by a Festool domino, on the rails. Have also just cut tenons instead on some step stools.

    I didn't know that quarter-sawn white oak with such tight growth lines was even available anymore. We see a lot of red oak around but it is all flat sawn and from much younger trees than the stuff you found. Was that recycled from something else that was older?

    • @builditnotes7551
      @builditnotes7551 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quarter sawn oak is still available in many places. However, it has become much more expensive. Locally, I get it from the North Carolina Hardwood Store and quartersawnoak.com . Hope that helps!

    I've been making tons of these recently for our little boy to be able to get up onto chairs, use the bathroom etc. I like this design so I might try it, no domino joiner so I'll probably just use a couple of dowels. Thanks for the video!

    • @builditnotes7551
      @builditnotes7551 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dowels should work if you use two of them to prevent rotation of the rails. Instead of a domino joiner, I have also hand cut the tenons as I do in the plans on Etsy. Here is a video on hand cutting tenons th-cam.com/video/KXoCV_fyUiY/w-d-xo.html . It was my first video, so no music and I was brief. But I do enjoy hand cutting them and then using a shoulder plane or rabbet plane to trim them to the size of the mortise.
