1:26 Yataa! Aruto Ja Naito!
It’s not animated, but Jordan Peele’s NOPE did it as well
He forgot to add it then
@@PAPicturesOfficial that he did
Crazy how Marvel’s Spider-Man does it twice in the same scene and it looks natural.
At what point does it go from homage to just trope?
( 1:08 and 2:00 ) - pul pul molcar - doraemon
I love how all of these are professionally done movies and shows and video game trailers, and then there's just Shirakami Fubuki in their crack-fueled youtube animation series.
Timestamp?
Gonna add Nightmare Kart to this list now, even though the video was made before it came out.
Pui Pi Molcar goes crazy ngl
Ain’t no way Fortnite had a reference to it in a trailer!?
Wait, where?
@@hondaaccord1399 they forgot to add it in
why is litterally, no joke, everyone seeing this now?
You forgot about the grim adventures of Billy and Mandy one
0:27 This is the clone wars 2003
Thank you!
1:03 IRMÃO DO JOREL 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
But what about that random _"Kaori getting squished by walls of meat"_ homage in Little Witch Academia? @_@ That totally came out of nowhere...
It’s so common in popular culture, I wonder how many people don’t even realize it’s a reference.
A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE NOT SEEN AKIRA
I like how Marceline is the motorcycle
Some stunt driver out there is perfecting this for live action and I for one can't wait
There's one in Jordan Peele's Nope!
There's also one in Nope
0:27 I’m pretty sure this is from Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003) and not Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-2020)
Yea, you’re right. I noticed the art style
0:39 The fact that one of the best ones in this compilation is *a boy on a bicycle*
In Cyberpunk 2077, if you’re on a bike and brake super hard, you do the Akira slide
Cool to see Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force
At what point is it no longer an homage and just a cinematic technique? Sorta like how "doom clones" stopped being "doom clones" and just became first person shooters.
the Akira slide is just ONE shot from a movie while doom-like refers to a whole type of games. It's like saying horror movies are a reference to Nosferatu
@@TheStickMachine I don't follow your logic. Saying horror movies are a reference to Nosferatu is the exact opposite of what I'm saying, it's literally an example of what I'm arguing against. I'm saying, at what point does "thing slides away from camera" transcend references. At what point are they no longer referencing Akira, but instead referencing one of the derivative works. Is it really that unique to have a character skid away from camera like that? I mean some of them are obvious homages, but others really kinda blur the lines. When Marceline slides away on her hands and feet, it's not very similar to skidding on a motorbike.
@@r.pizzamonkey7379 that's really NOT what you said lmao, like at all.
@@r.pizzamonkey7379 if you think Marceline is not referencing the Akira slide because she is not on a bike... we can't argue with you because you don't understant what referencing is. By that logic none of these are refs because they are not exactly the same as the original.
@@TheStickMachine ... What? Of course it doesn't have to be exactly the same, but it has to be similar, that's what a reference is. You're now taking the exact opposite stance you were in the first comment, you're taking the exact position you were mocking by asking if every horror film was a Nosferatu reference. I'm not saying none of them are, it's clear that Batman TAS was referencing it, quite frankly a lot of them are very close, but after a certain point it's like the Wilhelm scream. Is the wilhelm scream a Distant Drums reference? Hell no, most people who use it aren't even aware of Distant Drums. Even Benn Burke, the guy who popularized it by putting it in Star Wars, Gremlins, Die Hard, and others, misattributed it to the wrong movie, seemingly unaware of Distant Drums' existence. It's possible any of these are references to other media on this list, or just a scene that they included because they thought it would look cool to see the character slide away from camera like that. Like, once the blocking is different, the setting is different, the posing is different, the vehicle is different, you get a ship of Theseus effect. I mean, how is it still the same shot?
There was one in X Men Origins: Wolverine as well.
Even Jordan Peele did it
You forgot the horror movie nope
How many times did Yu gi oh do it?
Don't forget about that one rat in the kamigawa trailer
Nope by Jordan peele does it towards the end
Nope (2022) came out after this compilation.
@@kutter_ttl6786 yeah just thought it was fun to point out since I love that movie
No RWBY? Yang did it a few times.
How am I stupid not even to notice that?
Awesome compilation! Why are some of them cut short?
Thinking about what makes the slide cool, I think it's a matter of how much in control the protagonist appears in a dangerous situation. The screeching wheels and amount of dust kicked up illustrates that there is a lot of power in the motorcycle, meanwhile the rider is able to ignore that and instead perform a break that I have never seen done in real life (I don't know if it is even possible), commanding the motorcycle with the sole of his foot and paying direct attention to the viewer. It's the equivalent to a hero in an action movie looking at the camera while an explosion happens behind him.
this is such an insightful analysis! the slide is a very powerful visual image that commands reverence for the rider, & it's very interesting to think about how that works. thank you so much for this comment!
I think the recent Tracer “Synthwave” (“Synthdrift”?) highlight intro in OW2 could count as well
Nope and Cloud Atlas, please.
You forgot Nope (2022)!!
wasnt nope a 2022 movie
@@kyovibe Thank you for noticing. I already edited.
@@MrRacucho no problem. so yeah they didnt miss it. nope came out after the video
I audibly yelled “NINJAGO?!”
What about Danny phantom and Johnny 13!?
How did an animation of someone sliding their bike become so popular? /gen
Because Akira is really good?
@@Cerran032 Wait. My comment kinda sounds angry, but I meant it as a genuine question.
It’s because Akira is a cultural phenomenon of an anime. Kaneda’s Red Bike is extremely iconic. The entire opening sequence is popular but the sliding bike bit just happened to stick out the most. It’s a cool shot
The horse slide 😭
If I had a penny for every time I saw a horse slide...
Im thinking maybe i should watch akira
I need an updated version of this with NOPE in it
Pause the video and hit "0" - I never noticed that the slide started with an extreme close-up.
1:57 Palworld, what are you doing here
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet allow you to do the Akira slide to change directions too :)
Some of these i dont feel like are references
I think at one point they started referencing other material that referenced Akira.
Any rocket league fan?
Oh, come on! Some of those weren't even bikes!
Hey, you're missing some! Set up a way so someone can submit them!
The Clarence one caught me off guard...
+1 if there's sparks, -1 if you dont have atleast 3 points of contact hitting the ground
