I remembered this was a beast @ balcony only time in my life - but holy piper sandman. This whole 2nd set is like a dream come true!
People who shit on 2.0 just don't got a clue. Yeah there were some stinkers. But then there were shows like this where it all came together. Trey's tone reached one of it's many peaks in its long evolution. 95. 97. 99. 2000. I'd throw 2004 in there in terms of trey tone on nights like this. 2003 and 2004 was a truly unique sound in the history of phish. Just like every great phish era it can be said people will never make music like this again. This is IT. All of their deep exploratory jamming would just suddenly gel together and they'd lock in out of the weirdness. Magic ebb and flow. 2.0 had the highest of the highs. The lowest of the lows. But when they got down on nights like these they were LOCKED IN. Trey. Page. Fish. Mikey fuckin G. Here it was. The end. They were clinging onto their last hours together as a band. This was the send off. A statement, that no matter how it ended, they were legendary. They were Phish.
Mike.
i was there too
Happy 20th anniversary of SPAC 04’ to those who celebrate. Hard to believe it’s been that long, how time flies…
Holy shit - so true! - 20 YEARS(!!) just blew by like nothing!
SPAC 04’ were the best shows I’ve ever personally witnessed (and I’ve seen over 100). The jams were long, patient and transcendent. The segues were like butter, and the entire band was completely locked in from start to finish. Normally Trey (obviously) takes center stage during jams and peaks, but when you listen to these jams they’re all going off as one solid unit. Fish is practically falling off his seat during the Piper peak, Mike is playing prime James Jamerson runs, and Page is laying down layers of texture while Trey ties it all together. To me, this was the last hurrah of the 1.0/2.0 eras. The shows Coventry should have been.
Truth, whole weekend was amazing. If I could give the gods a gift of music it would be this weekend… from the soaring Jim to the cow funk twist.

Thanks!!!
A Dong I Turd the Lotion Fling
This show has Cypress level jamming WTF wow
Wow this show is not as sloppy as I remember,
Hahaha love this comment. Cheers!
@@adambatten9726 lol even the Reba isn’t super awful. And then once Scents hits it’s all-timer after all-timer. I don’t know what the fuck got into the band this night! Absolute fire!
What a time to be 20
Whyd you send my monkey on the train?
it's fucking criminal that Mike is turned down so low
This was quite a day! Thanks guys😁
Thanks Séan!
Im surprised Leo's Organ didn't burst into flames at 24:00
This show was amazing. This Free has always been the gold standard for me.
The LxL is such a perfect exclamation point on everything that happened in the set leading up to it. Such an underlooked jam . Was my favorite part of the night. I remember thinking that had to be the end of the set and how perfect of an ending it was, and with the cavern that followed, it should have been. Probably the best ASIHTOS played to date as well
My friend My friend Reverse guitar ghosts
Thanks @thecleverrose....by the way, loving the art work here! Can you tell us about the artist?
Hey thanks! The artwork I made myself digitally. I used an app called mirrorlab. The colors were selected by taking a picture of different paintings I have made. The picture was then altered into different mandalas or some other sort of fractal/abstract image. One example of my paintings, in my other video during Free - Set II 6/26/95 - if you take that image and split it down the middle, that's one painting.
this is where babies come from
What a weekend... In the midst of such a heavy difficult era... Drugs... Realizing the trajectory of existence...I believe 2004-ish was when there was enough time to get over the shock of 9/11, while simultaneously having enough distance from it to see the trajectory more clearly that the people running shit. This will always equal debauchery, violence, hedonism.... Basically human recklessness. The band and the crowd were both and all partaking in 2004..it wasn't good, it wasn't healthy..... I'm as lucky to be alive as trey is.. but fucking shit....both nights of spac '04 are so e of the best music phish has ever performed. Up there with nye 95, big cypress, Tahoe tweezer, msg nye '19 tweezer, bomb factory fest... Magnaball... It's some of the most incredible improvised music ever performed. I felt then and still do that at the time.. spac was their goodbye to the fans. Thank God it wasn't, but ya know. Jesus what a weekend
I regret skipping 4 phish shows. 9/11 & 9/12 2000, this show and sold my tickets to Nassau 2003
Were you at dpac 9/14/00? That was my first show at 16 followed by IT and spac 04 and camden 04. The scene sucks now. Aside from people cooking crack on lot the phans and scene were speacial no social media narcissist or phones. Some chompers but cocaine was hella popular then.
In terms of pure jamming, this is like top of the top of Phish ever.
Got next night to
I was there. Doesn't get much better than this. Paul Languedoc just had this band's sound dialed in like no other. Last of the true analog days.
I was there alone, my friends were getting spun out in the lot. I managed to make every show summer of 04 felt like the end of an era

Everything that I was imbibing that day started hitting exactly at this point. Bowie was nut after this. I'll never forget this show.
People saying they're old. This is more than 10 years after my first show. I was at this show and this is one of my favorite jams of all time.
2004 f*%king rocked.
This is freakin' fantastic!
Had these audience bootlegs on chrome sony tapes. Ahhhhh
Had a great time that night from what I remember.
Transcendent ASIHTOS.
Everybody knows the Piper, but the WotC outtro jam in Set 1 is A+ and the ASHITOS and LimbXLimb are outstanding as well. All intensely emotive. A truly euphoric Limb peak. A magical weekend in Saratoga.
Insane yem
This Free will melt faces! Miss those mammoth Free jams!
This is such a great soundboard, a little more crowd noise than usual really inflates the energy of this recording!
one of my all time favorite antelopes....WOW
Back when lot wasn’t full of pussies Long before woke and the dweebs that are out here now
Holy shit that was good. Morning walk ended up lasting till the end
Who the hell thumbs down on this?
Best Disease of all time
i thought the same thing till Bangor 2022
This was my first concert ever, i had just finished 8th grade- back when adults allowed that sort of thing.
jumped the rope at set break and got to row 3........what a set!!!
Thanks for posting
17 fucking years already! Wow. One of the best nights I've ever had. The music still holds up.
Is this the best Piper ever?
well theres merriweather 98, oswego 99, the guy forget piper 00, and theres a set of 3 pipers from the winter 03 and a set of 3 from summer 03 that are considered greats. cant forget about the nye 03 run opener that ones killer too. this one too of course but its which is ur favorite because theyre all completely different and great in their own way.
@@jimmydweeb9096 I think you meant yes 🤪
