This was very helpful. :) Do you have any videos about how to respond to an EHCP consultation? I've just received one for the first time!

Hi, I’m just looking what people are uploading about the EHCP because we find it difficult and unjust the way they give the right needs for disabled children. As an example for our Son we have the EHCP done in February 2023 because he has Autism, Non Verbal and Global Development Delay. Unfortunately in section F is written what the NHS speech and language therapist recommends and it says that the speech and language therapist will determine how much therapy my son needs. I contacted the Local Authority and they said that “ The EHCP does not currently state that he requires direct speech and language therapy daily”. They keep dragging the time by saying that they will try to get a speech and language therapist for months and at the end he didn’t get one, instead we have to pay a private Speech and Language therapist to go to the special school once a week and in the meantime she is telling the teacher to practice what she was doing in that 1 hour. Also in section F it says that our Son will have 1:1 support at all times, but until know they don’t follow the EHCP. They only say ( the LA and SENCO ) he has one but in fact that is not true because 3 Tachers and 1 Teacher Assistant are available for 12 children and non of them look after our Son as 1:1 support because I asked them. I have a bad feeling that the NHS doctors, School headteachers and the Local Authorities all play together on how to delay the fundings for the needs of disabled children. Unfortunately most of people as us we have very little knowledge on how things really work and they take advantage on that.
Whats the best way to relate to a governor? I have a Mandatory Reconsideration meeting today for my son
Hi can you link the 'CATS Test' i think said please? Also, a link to the Ann Arbor page please, I cant find it, thanks

Hi, useful information in your videos. Is there a list of the acronyms you use?
Thank you 😃
You're welcome 😊
Hi, I think you've uploaded the wrong video for this title. This is about Wrap Around.
Sorry, we uploaded a few at the same time. Title changed.
@@SENsibleSENCO Thanks, but now you have two copies of Wrap Around posted. Sorry, for being a pest but I am interested to hear what you said on data retention.

Brilliant session - thank you so much Abigail and Gavin - I will recommend to my daughter!!
How to get permission to use this tool for research purpose??
I suggest contacting YouthInMind and asking for permission.
We see that instead of "the number of pupil" we see " eligible proportion of primary NOR". Is there a specific formula to calculate "eligible proportion of primary NOR"?
In Dedicated School Grant , there is High needs block. Is SEN budget in this block?
Since this video was published they way in which SEN funding is allocated and found within your funding has changed. We just haven’t had time to update the video!
Love it! Very helpful, and to the point - Thank you!
You’re welcome ☺️
As a parent going through this process, I found this very helpful, thank you so much 🙏🏾
You are very welcome, it explains a lot from all the parties associated with SEND in schools.
Thank you xxx
This is really great!!!
Glad you liked it, Angharad really gives her all in her webinars. Are you joining us for her next one on 15th Sept?
now I will do the same answers !
Good luck!
These videos have been really helpful. My son is not safe in school currently. He's a flight risk and is putting himself in dangerous situations like climbing over a fence and on top of a bike shed. I need to apply for an EHCPNA. The school are saying they have moved my child up the EP list but I don't believe they will ever apply. If I apply 2 weeks into the summer holidays, that will give the school 2 weeks in September to get the required evidence to the LA. Is that fair? I can't wait any longer.
Hi Natalie. You are within your rights to put in a parental application whenever you want. However, (defending the SENCOs a little here) if you put it in now, the LA is likely to set a deadline for the school during the summer break. Unless they are a member of the SLT, the SENCO isn't actually paid for the summer break nor contracted to complete work during that time (we are paid 9 months salary over 12 months), which means they will either end up doing it 'for free' in their holiday when they might not even be able to access all records or missing the deadline and the LA then reject the application. I know you want what is best for your son, but honestly, you'd be better having a chat with the SENCO and asking when is best to submit it. Some LAs apply the 4-week rule during the holidays (put you in a waiting pile) which adds to the length anyway, and will only cause you frustration. (By the way - September is a manic month for us.) There is no requirement for the EP to have seen your son before the application is made, it is a statutory part of the process to get the EP to provide advice - so in many ways, waiting until September and then applying will potentially help to boost your son up someone's list (and might not even need to come out of the school budget/time but from the LA budget instead.) At the end of the day, it is your decision to make and I fully understand why you would want to do it ASAP, but I just wanted to present the other side of the coin to you. I encourage SENCOs to work with the parents, and I encourage parents to work with SENCOs. Working together you are more likely to secure the right outcomes and paths for the children involved. And (it's hot...you've got me on a bit of a rant, not at you but at what I see...) you want what is best for one child...the SENCo is often having to balance the needs of over a hundred children. I know we don't always communicate our decisions in the best way (blame GDPR most of the time) and it can be difficult to understand why your child isn't at the top of the list...but there are 10 other parents also asking the same and perhaps only 1 or 2 hours of EP time available. (Don't blame the SENCO, blame the system and work with them to find solutions.). Thank you, for letting me have my little, overheated rant... ;)
@@SENsibleSENCO Thanks for pointing out the other side. Unfortunately we hit a crisis last year when my child spent months out of school. I was then asked to trust the Senco which I have for two terms but my son is not safe on the school premises and is at risk of exclusion. I'm simply not waiting any longer. As a ex teacher myself, I sympathize with the job of a senco however my family has been through hell and I can't take anymore. My own mental health is affected and I can't have a career or life of my own due to constant calls and emails from school so why should I be thinking and considering someone else who already has a job? I don't think they are really thinking about me.
@@natalienolan6895 I can empathise with that. Put it in and see what happens. As I said, the LA might apply the 4-week rule (so be prepared for a 10-week wait rather than 6 weeks for the first stage). Good luck.
Fabulous content! Sue is a hoot! Big up Dr Sue!
Thank you for sharing. For me This is priceless. I want to be the best SEN Teacher I can be 🥰
You are welcome, we will be doing more videos over the next few months, so keep an eye out! Keep on moving forward ❤️
Sounds fabulous
Hello, very informative thank you so much. I would like to know please is it best for the parents to apply for the EHCP or the setting the child is attending. My child will be starting nursery soon and I would appreciate if you could help please. Thank you.
Great video. Really clear and precise. Where can I locate the template letter? Thank you
There's a really good one on this website: www.ipsea.org.uk/making-a-request-for-an-ehc-needs-assessment
Interesting explanation Very short and precise Thanks Loli from Spain
Very helpful for me as a learner
What hours of TA support are children entitled too in the different bands in secondary school?
None. Any entitlement will be written into an EHCP if they have one, otherwise there is no blanket entitlement to anything.
good video
Do you know of any other questionnaires (or tools in general) that measure mental health in children from 2-5 years? I looked on the youthinmind website in the segment in which the SDQ is compared to three other questionnaires but all of them are used on 5+ years olds. There seems to be a lack of instruments to measure mental health in preschool children. If you know of any other tool(s) that actually measures mental health in the preschool age range I would be very grateful!
Thank you!
Thank you :-)
Once again, thank you..
Fab, as always, Abigail. Thank you very much.
Omg, you made me giggle with this 🤣🤣
Am I correct in thinking that you don't include the prosocial scoring in your final total. If you did your total score could be as high as 50!
I'm new to the role and finding my ways. A question I have is who can tell me how much money the school actually receives as the element 2 funding. I managed to calculate it but no one in the school is able to tell me when the money comes and how much it is. Where, in the total money the LA provides for the school, can I find info on SEND notional budget. Thank you
There are formula tables and allocation tables published each year. They’re usually buried on the gov website, but the most recent ones were put up this week.
Does this account for bias?
I would propose that the triangulation of data from teacher, parent and child helps - but social bias will probably never be negated.
Can you share something yearly/ SEN action plans for school
I’ll have a go! Need to find some time…or a time machine.
hi there please can you provide the links that you mentioned towards the end of the video. Thanks
I’d like to thank you for your videos! They are so useful
I have a quick question i live in england and i got an internal exclusion for 1 day so basically i had to stay 1 day in school in detention so does this go on my record or not?
Hi Abigail. Thank you so much for this video. I absolutely enjoyed it and will be listening to your other videos. I am currently on maternity leave and would like to change my role from a TA in to a SENCO. I work in a primary school and I have a degree in Business Studies. I don't know where to start, so any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you
This video is such a good glimpse of his work.
