A Journey of Entrepreneurship & Resilience. David Cinelli and Mike Austin
In this episode of the DC Talks Podcast I am catching up with my great friend, top Canadian Realtor, and HGTV Hot Market co-host David Cinelli !
Our friendship has blossomed through the years, originally meeting through our wives, and since then; we've remained steadfast in growing our relationship.
In this episode from David's DC Talks Podcast. I talk about my journey into entrepreneurship, and my careers in live event production, architectural lighting and controls, all the way through to the inception of my own company Twenty Valley Media. Along the way, I touch on an eye opening cancer scare, and candidly share how this pivotal moment prompted a profound shift in my perspective on life.
Our conversation covers a range of topics, including:
- Relocating from the US and establishing roots in Canada
- The motivational nudge from Gary Vee that propelled me to start my own company
- Triumphing over sickness
- And striving to be the best version of oneself for the sake of family
And much more!

@@MikeAustinMedia Likewise. Who knows, TH-cam is a small world. Maybe it’ll happen!
Great breakdown I like your style Definitely just subscribed keep it going 🙏🔥
Thank you for taking the time to watch @solarshotzay
solid livestream! were you contracted doing video videography + livestreaming?
Thank you! Just contracted for the live stream. I record on my cameras as well as a backup recording with the live stream. So the RAW files can be given to the couple, or I can edit it into a wedding film as well.
@@MikeAustinMedia dope! Always respect livestreaming in the field. Can be a pretty dodgy/tedious thing!
Such a stunning wedding! Huge mazel tov to you all - Such a special couple - sending so much love & blessings for a life filled with joy, laughter and adventure ❤
Hey Mike thanks for the comment on my video, just popped over here and loved this video about the carts!
Thank you! I am am following your channel, excited to see more ✌
looks like the rocknroller has proper rubber tires unlike the new guy with the plastiky hard ones
Thanks for watching! The Rock-N-Roller and the Onstage cart both have plastic wheels and hubs. Which is great, so you don't need to worry about flats, and they are much lighter (great for travel). Though I prefer the hub design on the OnStage cart much better, as it uses a bolt into the hub axle. As the Onstage uses a cotter pin to hold the hub/wheel onto the axle.
Curious how these perform under load for several hours at a time on long edits? Some Folks say the Acasis enclosures have advantage in this regard due to active cooling but curious your thoughts. Thanks!
I have mine daisy chained via USB through an OWC Thunderbay RAID enclosure. And use it about 8 hours everyday for editing projects. Essentially all my projects these days are multicam 4K 120fps, with audio, 4K drone & graphics. Edited on FCPX on a M2 MacBook Pro. And I use the Sandisk Pro-G40 as my working drive. And it’s had no problems over the last year keeping up with my workflow. I haven’t heard about Acasis, I will have to check it out. Thank you for watching!
@@MikeAustinMedia awesome to hear! be interesting to see a blackmagic test after several hours into heavy use to see if it holds these incredible speeds, or if it sees some r/w reduction. of all the TB3/4 NVME options, the Acasis seems to be "the one" lol. they have few different options on enclosure, simple with heatsinks to active fan on it, and top tier has 2nd port along with display out ports on it. reivews show the one with fan to be pretty damn loud, but there are folks seeing 4000mb+ r/w speeds with these, which is pretty awesome. thanks again for the content!
@@kernzilla I checked out Acasis. I see they posted similar SSD speeds - "ACASIS 40Gbps NVMe SSD enclosure read/write speeds reaches up to 2805MB/s / 2734MB/s" on their website. I typically go w/ name brands that are tried and tru, not to say Acasis is not as good (I have never tried them out). Though I would error on the side of caution w/ anything that has a fan on it, and all those ports. Collectively they all add a lot of heat build up, which is why they need the fan in the first place. And if I were using this as my main working drive, I would want as few "failure" points in the device as possible. If you try it out, or do a review, send me the link. Would love to check it out! ✌
@@MikeAustinMedia man i could not agree with you more, and know exactly what you mean. I swore off DIY external enclosures prob a decade ago after a scary situ that nearly cost me big time. revision note on my prev 4000mb comment: i mixed up a speed test result where someone took the NVME out of the Acasis, and installed internally to test r/w speeds on custom windows build. impressive speed ofc, but not relevant to us mac users. my bad on that! for anyone reading/researching, I don't think there is an external enclosure that breaks 3k.. if there is i'm all ears! While there are pros to it, I'm not overly sold on the Acasis setup either. having addl USB port in the back would be handy, and being able to upgrade the drive size makes it a bit more future proof. but at the end of the day, I've never heard of Acasis until the last several weeks exploring my options for fast externals. where the viability escalated was a podcast or something, where Caleb Pike was like "i love it" and someone like that can be impactful on my decision-making. tbh, I've been happy with my Sandisk Pro HDDs and Extreme Pro SSDs drives in the last year, and this G40 prob makes more sense. My Sandisk SSDs perform lot better than my prev T7 drives after several hours, but still see some unwanted slow-downs couple hours into edit. where it's really apparent is pulling up finder window with 100s or 1000s of raw photos - at beginning of work session, these thumbnails load nearly instantly, few hours into working, it can become a dreadfully long time. also skimming timeline after a fresh restart gets laggy/less responsive. hate to admit it, but this 'stickyness' affects me more than it should; i internally start getting steamed about it and can stifle my creativity and minimize being "on a roll" with an edit. perhaps a personality weakness on my part lol, but willing to throw some money at this to see if it can be resolved. if i buy the acasis setup, will def report back with finding, but likely just go with the G40. appreciate the vids, keep up the good work! (and holy shit this was a long reply hahahaa!)
Great video Mike! Let me know if you find any event!
Thanks, Let’s grab lunch soon!
Nice one, Mike! Just subbed! That cart looks like a solid upgrade. I’m curious what (large) Nanuk case that is? 950? Cheers!
Following you too 🤙 It’s the 960 case, and thank you for watching 😀
how do you like that OSEE monitor? I have been looking at something bigger like that for a while. Right now I am using a wireless transmitter to an ipad, but would like something a tad bigger
I love it! It’s a nice big picture for my self and clients to view. I can double check everything in frame (set/talent/exposure/etc..) to ensure all looks good. And it doubles as my battery “carry on” bag for when I’m flying. Would be better if it was 4K, but it’s still a great picture. I use to use the native Sony viewing app on an iPad for a while but continued to have many connection issues, wasn’t reliable for me unfortunately. Cheers!
Mike: Appreciate your effort and time to create this video! Does Popl provide a physical business card (like a credit card) or only a QR scan code? With a physical (digital) card I could simply tap their smart phone and transfer my contact info vs. asking them to use their QR scanner to take a photo. Always trying to expedite the customer experience, etc. Appreciate your time, energy and insight.
Hi Erik, Thank you, just having some fun and creating! Yes POPl provides lots of physical products as well as a card. I have a POPL Phone Card sticker that is attached to my phone case that I will just tap onto someone’s phone via NFC communication. Since you are one of the first to comment on the video, you should read the video description, you might get lucky 😉😉.

I just got the Pocket 3 and I agree, it is amazing for the price and size.
I was quite shocked at how great of a package it is. The quality is really good and even in the low light mode. I’m getting ready to try out mounting it to my car and getting some moving shots.
thx for sharing. To me, you could easily have gone in to more detail..
I appreciate that! Anything that you would be interested in seeing in-particular. I am new to TH-cam and would love to help out other professionals, so I am all ears.
@@MikeAustinMedia :-) looking forward to see more, company setup, gear walk-through, how you got the particular job, packing etc etc
It must be terrifying checking your gear and hoping it shows up on the other end. I saw several guys talking about how their gear was stolen at the airports. Nice advice on the air tags.
I appreciate you taking the time to watch! Yes, it can be unsettling sometimes, but I’m not too worried as everything is insured, locked, & tracked. And if anything happens. I bring all the important stuff on the plane with me. Cameras, batteries, drone, and gimbal are all in my backpack and carry on. So at the bare minimum I can still do the shoot with what I carry on myself.
Awesome job dude!
Thank you!
What is the cart setup you're using with that ledge, shelf and the slip on organizer? I have an On-Stage cart that appears similar but haven't seen those accessories. Also how do you fly with the cart? are you collapsing it and checking all those individual pieces?
Hey! It’s the Rocknroller R12 Multicart. I have the slip on bag with zippered pockets, and extension shelf accessories. The cart folds down, and the shelf pops off. And I just put it in a large zippered bag that I got on Amazon, that will hold a stroller wagon. Depending.. I sometimes pack other things in with it, and have to pay an overweight bag fee (depending on airline as well). I’d be happy to send you some photos or a video breakdown of it in more detail if you’d like.
Quality editing! Come visit your brother in Madagascar and you’ll have lots of fun content to explore. Cheers
Thank you! Madagascar is on the list, hope to make it one day 🤙

I think DJI mic do not use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. They use RF signal. DJI mic second version (newer) use Bluetooth
Hi @vedataslan6121. The original DJI Mic (ver 1) and the new (ver 2) both use Bluetooth in the 2400-2483.5 MHz range, which may be confusing at that is in the "RF" spectrum.. Though they do not use the more reliable RF (Radio Frequency) technology to transmit and receive. I wish they did as it would be a killer compact product! Do you use a DJI mic, or have something else? Thanks for the comment. Have a great day!
@@MikeAustinMedia I have Hollyland lark max duo and fifine m6. but they don't have bluetooth connections. dji mic 2 can connect with bluetooth but they come with reciever. they explainmost properties with receiver connection but if the mic 2 connects to smartphone with bluetooth, it looses so many functions and i think the quality of connection.
Hey Mike, How long have you been using the drive? SanDisk has had some issues in the past year on their Extreme Pro drives with failures (Ive used one of these slower drives for years without issue FWIW). Just wondering how you have found the Pro G40?
Hi Andre, I have been using it just over a month now. Yes, I have read about the issues. Though I am not too worried about that as every drive manufacturer has random issues at one point or another. I use this SSD just as my working drive, and still have everything backed up locally and in the cloud so Im not worried. I've had failures w/ most all major manufacturers at one point or another, so as long as I use the modified 3-2-1 rule and swap out/update RAID backup drives every 3-5 year I'm good "from a business standpoint". This drive though is really helping me dominate the workflow with FCPX on my MacBook M2 Max. Thanks for the comment, have a great day!
I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on one but alll the bad press is making me reluctant. The one question I have and can't find the answer is if the G40 has built differently that the Extreme series. I don't think these G40s are in the list included in the 3 or 4 ongoing class action lawsuits. One last question, I always use APFS Encryption. Have you tried go use this format and if so, have you had any issues?
good morning-that's top .
Thank you so much Twenty Valley Media for creating this very special video for me!! :) This means the world to my family and I!!! :D
