That's an easy one: in Canada we have no rights, especially if the people in power don't like you. We have seen that our constitution is worthless and the authorities can do as they please. The police and court system are not to be trusted.

Huge disappointment at the time. Not the bands finest hour. I very rarely give this album an airing. Great album cover though.

Very good review. A pretty weak album for Sparks, with not enough of the Mael's personality. It's still a pretty good album overall.

One of their best albums for sure. I was worried about Sparks "going disco" back in 1979 but I loved the album right away and it still had the Mael brothers personality. The followup Terminal Jive was the first Sparks album that was disappointing but I like it a lot more these days. "Stereo" and "When I'm With You" are my favorites on the album.
Yup, my review of Terminal Jive will reflect that! No 1 is a masterpiece compared to what followed!
Morris, can I ask why you have ranked bonus tracks on some albums but not some of the others that have them. In my opinion bonus tracks shouldn't count towards album rankings unless every album has bonus, which some of them don't. By the way, I agree that Beat the clock is the weakest song on the album, although my husband won't listen to My other voice, he says it's creepy.
I did look for some of the bonus tracks for those other albums and they didn't show up. Yeah, I know, I shouldn't include the bonus tracks, but if they are on the album, which they are on, for example, 'Kimono' and 'Propaganda, I'm going to include them, because they feel like a part of the album!! Next year when I do this again, the scores could change.
@@morrisgautreau6704 It's just because I thought you missed the bonus tracks from Big Beat and there are six of them on the CD I have but I've just realised I have the 21st century edition so that's probably why.

Great period in Sparks history. Change of image too. Great look. Still gets the hairs on my neck to stand up to this day. Only negative, the live versions at the shows never gdid the songs justice imo.

Great thumbnail, ha ha! I think I love this album as much as Big Beat but they are both so different. I think my least favorite song is Forever Young and my favorites are Occupation and Those Mysteries. I had a friend in the 70's who hated Sparks but when he heard this album he ended up buying it.

I love Big Beat (and the next album) My least favorite song is Everybody's Stupid and my favorite is Confusion. I actually love Side 2 more, ha ha.
Ha ha, you would! With more listens, those scores can change! There are albums coming up, I really can't wait to review! I do want to go back and give scores for the 4 first albums, so I can do a proper ranking at the end of the month!
I agree about the two weakest songs. My favourite on the album is "Throw her away (and get a new one)". It makes me laugh out loud. Indiscreet is my favourite just because of the diversity and different styles of music but I really love Big Beat too because I love rock music. It would easily be in my top 5 or 6.
There's just so much great music with this band!
The 1st time I heard Indiscreet I thought it was weird, the 2nd time I thought "actually this is pretty good". The 3rd time I listened to it I totally fell in love with the thing and now I have played it more times than all the other albums put together and I have them all, it's my all time favourite album by anyone. My favourite song is Happy Hunting Ground, it's a 10/10 for me.

I think made to measure is a cd of non sparks songs curated by Ron and Russell.
@@morrisgautreau6704 As someone already said, it's just Ron and Russell's choice of songs by other artists, not Sparks songs. Think it was a bit naughty including that one on the cover when it isn't them on it, it's misleading to say the least.

I haven’t heard either of these records. I need to find Lp copies. I hate streaming and don’t unless I absolutely have to. The only two I have are Angst… and Pulling Rabbits…. Both of which I like a lot.
Everything Sparks does is good, I like it all. Their styles and sound change quite a bit every couple of albums. The two I mentioned are very different than Angst or Pulling Rabbits.

I thought your comedy video was great. Not everyone will get the humor, I've dealt with that for years, ha ha. After Kimono and Propganda, I bought Sparks and Woofer at the same time... I liked their debut album right away, although it was way different from Kimono and Propaganda. I agree, I thought Woofer was WEIRD and I actually hated it... but after more listens I warmed up to it and now I think I love it more than the debut. Whippings might be my favorite Sparks song. Russell's vocals are a bit strange for sure but in time I grew to love them on this album. Only part I don't like is the falsetto near the end of Nothing Is Sacred, the rest of the song is great. Kimono is amazing but between it and the follow up, Propaganda wins.
Really enjoying these Sparks album reviews Morris. Me and Martha May are settling down from celebrating her 88th birthday to watch this one!!
