Life as a Peasant in Game of Thrones
Life as a peasant in the Game of Thrones universe is grueling and often bleak, marked by constant labor, little reward, and ongoing vulnerability to the whims of the powerful. From the humble smallfolk in the North to the struggling peasants in the Reach, the conditions are universally harsh, often overshadowed by the conflicts between the noble houses. Peasants work tirelessly on farms or in small villages, enduring taxing labor from dawn to dusk, with very little opportunity to rise above their station.
The feudal system in Westeros ensures that peasants are bound to the land they work, providing crops and goods to the local lords in exchange for protection-or what little there is of it. They bear the brunt of any wars, as armies often ravage villages for food or manpower, leaving the poor to pick up the pieces. Furthermore, peasants are frequently burdened by heavy taxes, and their lives are dictated by the seasons, with the threat of famine always lurking in the background. With limited access to education or resources, the ability to change their fate is slim, making survival the ultimate goal.
In addition, many peasants are forced to work as serfs, with very few legal rights. They are often at the mercy of their lord’s decisions, including the fate of their homes or lives. Whether it’s the oppressive rules of the Lannisters in the Westerlands or the harsh winters in the North, the life of a peasant is one of constant struggle, with little hope for improvement.
Despite this, some peasants find moments of solidarity and even resistance, as seen in revolts like the “Peasant Rebellion” in Westeros’ history, though they rarely succeed against the established power. Their lives, largely ignored by the nobility, are defined by hardship, survival, and a never-ending battle against the forces that keep them down.
Explore more about the hardships of peasant life in Westeros and how it shaped the lives of the smallfolk throughout Game of Thrones.

Amazing art work.; hope you'll do longer videos in the future.
I have made a few long videos you should check them out
If the reach has 70/80.000 men it could summon 15/20.000 knights, whereas the Vale, with its (I think) 30.000 men, surely hasn't more than 8/10.000 knights. At the same time Vale men are much better equipped. I think they have the same power, it's a matter of quality and quantity
As the lord of Harrinhall I command you peasants to cultivate more lands …. I heard someone called Robert Baratheon is marching 🫤
Drone in other hand.. they'll come for elia's injustice.
not much a difference in todays peasant life
Jon isn't the prince that was promiced dany is
The doom will be avenged.
I think that ‘conflict’ was Jon fighting between who he wanted to be and tryna be just like his father, Ned. Jon was naturally more laid back than Ned. Period. Ned would not be ‘pouchin’ around with the wildlings, no matter how much sense it made. It was not ‘The way things go’ 🚶🏿♂️
The dragons were chained the only one that was able to break out was dreamfyre and she killed alot of smallfolk the only reason she died was because of the destruction of the dragonpit, and all of this happened due to the fact when the greens killed meleys they paraded with her head around the city thus making the people believe dragons are not gods…
Which is why I feel like this “Shepherd” was just another plot already in motion by people in the green faction. Poor dragons always suffering.
It's Always been Oldtown vs the Valyrians
The Reach❤
If dragons were unchained the rebellion wold become Ash
❤❤
Why do we finally know now?
Because……..
@LibrarySpider lol ?
I think depends on how the battles our fought the Vale ambushes are unstoppable just like they did on the trident against the Dornish
So Is quantity vs Quality🤔
For me he didn't engaged Jon directly because Jon holds a Valerian Steel Sword haha
If that happens we could have seen ageon(jon snow) vs robb
I’m sorry… did u say house whore? 😂😂
In 1v1s most vale knights would win vs reach knights, but in war the vale doesn't stand a chance. Outnumbered by a huge margin.
ia crap
In the GOT HBO series The Reach was defeated easily. Tyrell is told her soldiers died as well as could be expected.
Which movie is he talking about 😭
@@KakashiHatake-or4zu Halo Reach
Neither westerlands betta
Reach knights always felt like pretty boys prancing in pretty armor. Plus their region is not that dangerous. Meanwhile Vale knights always have to deal with mountain clans so they have experience.
I disagree. Its heavily hinted that knights of the vale would rather talk about how honorous they are, rather than fight an actual fight. The whole reason wildmen are so widespread, its that knigts of the vale dont care to combat them. Id wager the most "experianced" knights of the u kingdoms are stormlanders, veterans of the rebelion, renlys and stannis armies and even before that they saw constant combat against dorne, even before unification.
Reachmen get into it with Ironborn raiders from time to time but only those on the coast or The Arbor
I think so it is bran stark after all he was the greatest asset in war of living and dead
KING DAEMON BLACKFYRE CAMEO!!!!!
All hail King Daemon Blackfyre 🔥🐉
@@LibrarySpider Bastards don't deserve the throne, It's fitting the line is functionally dead.
Number counts
Plus they have house Tarly
Stupid lots of wars have been won with less you know that right you dummy
Well..,! Tywim seat in harrenhal and he die.,! Killed by Tyrion.! Cersei and jaime killed by Stone wall 😂
First to take the Black 🖤
Now my watch Begins
the prince.ss that was promised is a neutral word in high valyrian. that lead me to believe that both of them what promised in a way.
Rhaegar would have lost dorne and north. Abandoning his wife and kids and mad king killing starks there would have been war coming after that.
First to take the Black 🖤
Nah!!!!! If Rhager won, he would have north/riverlands to face.
"House Whore" "Egon the Conqueror"
Sounds like an excuse to me
If Rhaegar beat Robert and Lyanna had died. The truth of the child would be told to the north. On top of that, this would allow Rhaegar to marry Cersei, which is what she and Tywin had wanted originally. Targaryen/Lannister marriage with a Targaryen/Stark child who they could promise marriage to some other house maybe Dorne or High Garden would be pretty strong and a good reason for the rebellion to end.
If Robert died the rebellion would’ve still continued
All he had to do was win. Couldnt even do that. Now george cant even finish the story. Weak!
I think its Bran, or more specifically this three eyed raven entity.
I love in HOTD how Haarenhall is it own character - they failed to show that side of the Castle 🏰 in the original series
Dragon not dragons; for it was only Aegon and The Black Dread who melted the hall of Harren The Black
It was also not destroyed the day it was completed. It was completed the day Aegon landed in Westeros (King's Landing)
It’s Jon! He’s coming back on Drogon. Pretty please HBO? 😩🤞
I think the real question isn’t if the prince is male or female but it’s it’s ment to be a single person or a group. Remember the dragon has three heads
Jon
Daenerys was the only ONE THAT WAS PROMISED 👑👑👑👑✨🤍🧿
I honestly think that at this point, G.R Martin himself doesnt even know.
Their fight could've been a blast.
That shepherd story is nonsense. They're clearly decendants of the Amethyst Empress who fled The Great Empire of The Dawn after the Bloodstone Emperor murdered and overthrew the Amethyst Empress.
I believe it's ser Pounce🐈.
Tywin paid her 1 silver coin for every guard and 1 gold coin for Tyrion. That was cruel AF.
More like warging
There are theories out there that Dany and Jon are twins, and in Westerossi culture a twin are two people who share the same soul. Perhaps they both fullfill the prophecy. And more to the point, we've not had 1 character so far in the books to have interacted with Jon and Dany, so how are we to know if they look alike. If they are both the children of Lyanna and Rhaegar, then Jon got the Stark look like Arya, and Daenerys got the silver hair and purple eyes. Going even further down this rabbit hole, if fAegon were truly Aegon and not a Blackfyre Mascot, then we actually would have 3x Targaryen siblings to be the 3x heads of the Dragon just as Rhaegar wanted.
They ain’t twins. GRRM is very explicit on that.
@jjh2456 wait, really? Did he debunk it in an interview somewhere?
