This is so interesting, a clear picture of what actually caused bnei Yisrael to "settle" in Goshen and how Jews have repeated this pattern all over the diaspora ever since! Many thanks Rabbi Lapin !

Your clarity of life is magnificent. Thank you Rabi.
That's a good point about the passive form of the verb at the end of VaYigash. They were captured by the 49 levels of tumah. I share your perspective on American politics. In my eye, Biden is much more dependable than Trump. Most of the Orthodox community of which I am a part prefer Trump. I hope someone will start the ingathering. Yasher Koach, Rabbi.

Thank you

Brilliant. Another dimension ❤❤❤. Shabat shalom
Incredible Shiur.
I am a Ger and the first time that I came to shul in my life was in 1997 on parashas Chayeh Soro. I remember how strange it was, but most of all was the haftorah very strange. I have also over the years looked up maamorei chazal and saw quite a bit about this in the past 25 years. But the explanation that the Rabbi shlitah brings here from the Vilna Gaon ztwk"l is one of the most vital points that really puts it all together. Yasher Koach and thank you for bringing this to my attention! A guten Shabbos and my we see the restoration of the shechinah which is R"L shefeilah be'afar besiboseinu soon in our time.

I'm sorry but this doesn't make sense to me. He does teshuvah for his sin with Batsheva by not having relations with Avishag. Then he has relations with Batsheva 13 times?! Why didn't he divorce Batsheva and send her away?
good question. i guess because she was meant to be his wife, he was not meant to divorce her. therefore he had to come up with a way to make up his self control
The Gemara learns from this how far we need to go to prevent divorce, a resort only to an unfaithful marriage or an absolutely last resort to an unhappy one.
@@RabbiLapinMatmonim I guess I don't understand David's original sin with regard to Batsheva that he is trying to repent from. If it was so bad, one would think that after Shlomo was born, they could have separated. Okay, you say that divorce is horrible. But to engage in a marathon sexual event with his wife when he is trying to show that he has mastered his Yetzer seems counterproductive.
👍🙏
“I’m relieved even if I am the loser.” It’s the honouring of HaShem. Thank you Rabbi for this rich and fulfilling shiur.

Another clue that connects the 1st chapter of Melachim to the "sin" are the main characters in the chapter are David, Bat-sheva and Natan.
Tamar and yehudah ...Tamar was the first to publicize an inappropriate encounter
I thought David couldn't get warm because he cut shaul's robe
Well done Rabbi
❤❤❤❤

The sprachgeful of נשמע
This shiur spoke so loudly - and beautifully - to me !! Thankyou Rabbi !
I just wish my mother could have listened to these shiurs. She used to complain about the level of sermons in the Baptist church we attended, in Oxford Street, East London, when such clarity was available to others in the Shul down the road.
Turns out your mother was onto something. I left Xtianity when I was 11. My only regret is it took me 11 years to make that decision. However: I never even once prayed to JC Penney. Always directly to G-d.

Thank you Rabbi. I find that while writing Hebrew, English and Yiddish, the entire format of discussion is different. My imaginary audience is viewed differently. Thank you, Shabbat Shalom
Thank you for talking about the lost art of oration amongst today's Torah scholars and teachers. The "pidgeon language" spoken by many today is an impediment to learning.
Thank you. Question: Granting that Oral Torah is not necessarily pshat, how could Yehudah have asked to dispense with a translator if Yosef had not yet allowed his brothers to know that he did not require one? What could Yehudah have hoped to accomplish - could he count on his earnestness to be clear enough? (P.S. Someone once referred to translation as "kissing through a veil" - one could get the shape of the encounter but could not hope to get the real experience!)
